Life at No.27 was formed in 2019, built with passion at its core and designed to change lives. We understand that high levels of anxiety and a lack of confidence brought on by difficult or confusing experiences can be one of the highest hurdles to overcome. This can then begin a devastating spiral that can affect a person’s life potential on many levels. The director, Annabelle Padwick has a wide variety of skills, experience and qualifications relating to therapeutic approaches to working with those struggling with anxiety, low confidence and special educational needs. Ethos and approach We are committed to providing a safe, inspiring and nurturing environment that can meet the needs of young people who are struggling in a mainstream setting and adults in day to day life. We are focused on identifying individuals whose anxiety and lack in confidence can mean they are so often overlooked. We aim to empower people through a variety of practical, outdoor and creative activities that not only teach valuable and transferable skills, but that also have a meaningful and therapeutic value. We will foster relationships based on compassion and understand any behaviour is a form of communication of difficult thoughts and feelings. Through this we can begin to help a person have a deeper insight of themselves, which will develop and encourage emotional and social growth, whilst increasing self-awareness. We will have a culture firmly rooted in the therapeutic approach in order to provide reflection, space for growth and support for the people accessing the service, their families and our growing team. Meeting the need The organisation is a social enterprise which aims to meet a very real and growing need. Sadly, mental health struggles are rising in children and adults year on year. The current education system alongside the NHS has been and will be under a great deal of pressure, with limited resources to meet the needs of people who have complex needs and anxiety struggles. Often, these individuals slip through the net or end up disengaged from school and their wider network, which can have a devastating effect on their lives.

Bramfield House School was established in 1970 as a specialist provision for pupils with social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. It is an all boys establishment catering for an age range of 7-16 and is registered for 74 pupils. It is situated in rural Suffolk 10 minutes drive from the heritage coast. The residential accommodation consists of the main house sitting in 10 acres of gardens and 1 mile from the centre of the village of Bramfield. The classroom facilities are independently placed within the grounds and consist of purpose made specialist subject provisions. Alongside the school site we provide a separate residential accommodation called Ibstock House that caters for the further development of pupil’s independence skills. This house has its own designated classroom and gardens, approximately ¾ of an acre and can support up to 6 boarding pupils. Both can access the numerous on-site resources on offer, including an indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, multi-gym, pool tables and table tennis table, full size sports pitches and outdoor adventure trail, amongst a host of other in- house activities and interests. The ethos of the school is based on trust and mutual respect, providing the opportunity for every individual to maximise their own potential in a warm and caring environment. The pupils are supported in discovering their personal attributes, and to then themselves acknowledge these skills, building their confidence and self-esteem so that this can then be transferred and used to develop and enhance all areas of their social and educational development. The professional staff group engages with pupils to explore new and varied environments and interests, using these opportunities to build relationships and understanding, so that they may be better placed to provide individually tailored support to the pupil. The school is well aware of the difficulties that been previously encountered by the young people coming into our care and will start afresh, positively supporting the pupils individuality alongside promoting the value of appropriate social skills. We provide a clearly staged developmental pathway from nurturing to self-management and independence, with skilled staff and resources to assist in this journey.

Hi, I'm Carol, a musician, performer and educator based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Since childhood I have been involved in the performing arts throughout school, training in dance from the age of 5 years and performing in school music and drama productions. Since then I have continued performing and studying, gaining a BA (Hons) Degree in Dance, teaching dance at Acting Up Theatre School and in after-school clubs, writing and performing my own poetry, performing in Theatre in Education and singing and playing percussion in various bands across the North East and Europe. I have worked extensively at Sage Gateshead across their Learning and Participation Programme, as a Project Musician and Programme Leader for their CoMusica, Early Years, Loud & Clear Foster and Adoptive Families and Young People's Programmes, delivering music-making projects and devising training in Early Years & Family Learning, Inclusive Practice and Working With Young People With Autism. I have worked collaboratively in partnerships with The Great North Children's Hospital, North East Autism Society, Children North East, North Tyneside Family Intervention, Durham, Gateshead and Newcastle Fostering and Adoption Services, Family Intervention Services and Music Services (HUBS) within Primary Education, SEND and PRU across the North East. I was a vocalist and percussion player with Bridie Jackson and The Arbour, a four-piece contemporary folk/acoustic band based in Newcastle. Gaining widespread acclaim, we received radio play on BBC 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 Music, played live sessions for Dermot O’Leary and Radio 4′s Loose Ends, and won a Journal Culture Award for their Arts Council-funded project, Music in Museums, and performed on multiple stages at the legendary Glastonbury Festival, having beaten over 8,000 contenders to win the 2013 Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition. I am a Festival Compere, having worked with Cambridge Folk Festival since 2015 and smaller festivals, including Maddy Prior's Stepping Stones Festival in Cumbria. I am now a Director of Sound Sense and work as a Freelance Musician working with babies, the elderly and all ages in between. MistryMaths is a unique and unparalleled website that offers enterprising, innovative, engaging and high impact mathematics lessons and materials for a variety of people from students, teachers, lecturers, parents, schools, universities, education consultants and professionals. The author is Manoj Mistry and his work has proved immensely popular so very quickly. His work has gained over one million downloads and he was nominated for a 2013 Times Educational Supplement Award for his resource contribution to the education sector. Manoj is on a mission to change the face of mathematics education in the UK and abroad. He has started an eventful journey in banishing the stereotype of mathematics education being dull, inaccessible and worksheet based. Manoj wants to help tackle the skills shortage of mathematicians in the UK and challenge the notion that it is ok to be innumerate. No one ever confesses to being illiterate. There is a clear structure to every lesson with a minimum of three parts (majority of lessons are split into more). Lessons have been planned with OFSTED grading criteria in mind. The use of a yellow background is to help with retention. Not only is content being taught but links are readily made with skills that students can transfer into the outside world. Manoj would like to acknowledge the creativity of Laura Rees-Hughes and Tristan Jones for the work they have uploaded on www.tes.co.uk. Their creative ideas have inspired a number of different activities within his lessons. Manoj is passionate about improving the life chances of young people and bringing the UK back on the map as a pioneer in mathematics education. He has received countless praise and plenty of lovely messages from a variety of people he has never met from around the world, mentioning how much he has changed their lives and the learning experiences of students for the better. An educational institution messaged him saying they often hold exclusive meetings on how they can incorporate his resources into their scheme of work. Through desire, graft and word of mouth he has built up a brand in education, called MistryMaths, which is rapidly becoming well-renowned around the UK.

Founded in 1959 by Yehudi Menuhin, the Bath Festival Orchestra has long been established as the beating heart and resident ensemble of The Bath Festival. Our reach is now international, having used the power of digital media and technologies to establish ambitious collaborative projects for worldwide audiences. Collaboration, access to music at every level, and cross-genre collaboration, are values of our Founder and remain interwoven into the orchestra’s identity and work. We relaunched during the Covid-19 pandemic, in a move indicative of our devotion to offering opportunities for all, and amplifying engagement in the arts. We are flinging open the doors to classical music, providing open access at every level. We are led by a dedication to seeing our audiences and musicians reflect the society we live in – to truly diversify the socio‐demographics of our industry. Our first engagement, following our relaunch, was an education project to give young people access to the best music training in schools. Hello and welcome to our website. We are a volunteer run community library based in Taibach, Port Talbot. Taibach Library’s roots go back over 100 years, to 1913 when Margam Urban District Council received a grant of £2,500 from the Carnegie Trust for a free circulating library in Taibach. The foundation stone was laid in 1914 and the library opened its doors to the public in 1916. Fast forward nearly 100 years later to May 2014, and the Library was threatened with closure due to local authority cuts. As a result of this, a local group of people came together and formed the Taibach Community Library charity. The library is now run entirely by volunteers, and we rely on the generosity of individuals and local businesses for support. Without that help, we would not be able to serve those in our community as we currently do. The Library continues to play a central role in providing vital opportunities for people, young and old to learn, develop and socialise at the heart of the community. Whilst the traditional book lending remains, our library also offers much more, from regular clubs for children and young people to gather and share their interests to coffee mornings and providing support and access for people of all ages to make the most of everything that the internet has to offer. This year, our goal is to raise £5,000. Every donation that we receive will be spent directly to help us make an important difference to our local community. Whether it goes towards paying our insurance, heating or electricity bill or helping fund the purchase of new equipment, every donor will be acknowledged in our promotional literature and on our community sponsorship board located in the Library itself. There are many different ways that individuals or businesses can donate to us. We can accept cash, cheque or card payments at the Library itself, or we can accept money via bank transfer or Paypal. Retune was founded by Tom Ryder. Tom is a musician and journalist, and has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. He was hospitalised for poor mental health multiple times during his late teens and early twenties, which eventually forced him to withdraw from university and begin again from scratch. While in hospital, Tom noticed that patients were finding creative outlets to cope with their predicament. These outlets included drawing, painting, writing poetry, dancing, singing and cooking. Tom wrote songs and, despite those dark times, he realised creativity’s tremendous potential to improve mental health; it is crucial to have an outlet for feelings and emotions. A few years later, Tom started hosting live gigs. He also ran workshops in schools, connecting with young people who were experiencing mental struggles. In 2018, Retune started to take shape: in addition to live shows and schools, Tom now visited prisons and hospitals, and produced online content. Tom’s cousin Kathryn Bailey – a photographer, videographer and all-round creative – joined the project in 2019. As well as sharing Tom’s view that creative outlets are powerful tools for mental wellbeing, Kathryn had a personal attachment to Retune's mission... When Tom was first admitted to hospital, 11-year-old Kathryn was shielded from the truth, as she was considered ‘too young’ to know what was going on. Being involved with Retune allows her to be part of a cause that is close to her heart, especially as Retune’s workshops discuss mental wellbeing with all ages, from primary school pupils to adults. Open conversations around wellbeing are more commonplace nowadays, but there is still a long road ahead. Through its workshops and live shows, Retune is creating a community based around mental wellbeing, underpinned by creativity. When we retune something, such as a musical instrument or a radio, we make small adjustments in order to achieve harmony, clarity and balance. Retune believes that the same theory can be applied to mental health. Harnessing creative outlets that engage the imagination, and following the principles of the SCALES model, can help all of us to make small adjustments. As a result, our mental wellbeing will be more in tune.
