Our overarching ‘Philosophy’ is to actively encourage, enable, develop, mentor, facilitate, empower and support local creative arts practitioners from a wide range of background with a priority to engage in discussion around accessibility within the arts in relation to mental health, financial hardship and institutional bias. We have also provided work placements to a number of European students, via the Erasmus + and Gecko programme. The spaces are offered for hire and for free depending on the nature of the request and is offered to both emerging artists or collectives that deserve a space to explore and harness potential, or established artists with a strong visual aesthetic. We curate approx one show per month in our two exhibition spaces and these are either from chosen submitted proposals or from exceptional and forward thinking artists that we find on our travels. In-between these exhibitions we encourage groups or collectives with a passion for community welfare and development to use the spaces for poetry , music, discussions, rehearsals , workshops or their own curatorial interests. Padiham

Gawthorpe Textiles Collection (GTC) is the operating name of independent museum and registered charity The Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth Textile Collections. Since its establishment in 1959, the charity has existed to deliver its powerful founding vision focused on education, public access to the collection for all and the promotion of wellbeing. The aims and purposes of the charity have never been more relevant as the country faces the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic. GTC operates from the Gawthorpe Hall estate in Padiham, Lancashire; family home to founder Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth MBE (1886- 1967), a life long collector of global textile and craft items. Rachel was a prolific lace maker and embroiderer. She was also a philanthropist who devoted her life to actively improving the social welfare of the communities on her doorstep. The charity’s long term ambition is to work in partnership to realise Rachel's vision of creating a craft house, a centre of excellence for learning in textiles. As the only dedicated textile collection of its size and variety in Lancashire, the collection which stands at over 30,000 pieces of global provenance, is a truly remarkable resource. It is one of the most diverse, interesting and encyclopaedic textile collections in the UK and is known to specialists worldwide. In a digital age which is seeing a strong resurgence in the value of hand crafts, GTC champions traditional craft skills, celebrates creativity and delivers programmes of activity which have profound and positive life changing effects on individuals’ mental wellbeing and life skills, promoting a sense of community - all through participation in craft. Key activities undertaken by the charity fall into two strands; management and care of the collection including research, documentation, acquisition, interpretation and conservation. Secondly, sharing the collection with the public; catering to a broad range of ages, cultural backgrounds and skill levels. This includes delivering historic and contemporary exhibitions, artist collaborations, workshops, talks, tours, research and study visits, as well as outreach in the local community through Valley Street Textiles Studio (a joint initiative with Calico Homes).

Fleet

I began my own Yoga journey in 2002, having suffered from excruciating cluster headaches for some months I decided to see if Yoga could help. Not only did it cure my headaches it also began to take away the aches and pains I had for years in my knees. Although I “found” yoga looking for help for physical ailments, I quickly came to realise the huge benefits to my emotional and mental well being too. Having attended classes with Sam Rao for 16 years, through 2 pregnancies, work challenges, losing family and a close friend I found that Yoga really was the one thing I could turn to for help physically and mentally. In 2018 I took the leap to begin the next part of my Yoga journey and began my training with Sam Rao Yoga School. I began teaching in January 2019. Since graduating I have attended numerous courses and workshops including Teen Yoga, "The Alchemy of Touch", Introduction to teaching pregnancy Yoga, principles of Yin and Restorative Yoga and Thai Massage, and Philosophy in Movement to extend my learning and be able to offer more classes to my yogis. My personal practice remains incredibly important to me. As well as practice at home I attend a regular weekly class, as well as visiting other teachers and attending day and weekend retreats. These are amazing opportunities to self nurture and also improve my own teaching. My wish is to share Yoga with my local community and encourage you to attend a class where you listen to your body, not just my guidance, finding a Yoga practice you can share in class and also take away into your every day life. Recognising that Yoga isn't just about moving but about breath, stillness, connection, how we live our lives, kindness, compassion and nurturing. Join me to discover what a Yoga practice can do for you.

Glasgow

It has always been all about dogs. My journey started in a local pet rescue centre where in seven years I have probably seen everything: various pet illnesses, serious behavioural issues, rehabilitation and success cases, you name it - I bet I have a story or two about it. Let me tell you a secret, though: once you become a volunteer, it does not take long until you rescue your first dog. I was not an exception and soon enough Beta joined our crazy family. Now, this is the point in the story where I immersed myself into dog training - my dog was far from perfect. It makes me smile now to remember all the chewed leashes, carpets, mom's shoes (it honestly seemed like Beta just enjoyed the expensive ones best). Oh, do not forget leash reactivity, barking at the house and doors shredded to pieces (I'm still convinced she was aiming for a Louvre worth art piece)! A number of dog psychology and training seminars, workshops, classes and courses were where you would have found me during my free time. At the same time, I started my professional dog show handling career and traveled around Europe showing dogs I trained. It was a no brainer what I want to do when I came to Scotland and so Sky Walks Glasgow was born. Two years later I finished my first diploma with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and kept helping people to become the coolest puppy parents! Dog and girl sitting in the nature What once started as a hobby has grown into this big team of four-legged stars and their humans that just could not fit under the old name anymore. So we grew. It's my pack and we are Sky Walkers! I was never about simply giving you instructions on what to do. If we work together, get your thinking hat ready because we are about to look at the world through your dog's eyes!

Short Supply

Salford,

Short Supply is a bridge between emerging artists and arts organisations, producing exhibitions, workshops and talks to create enriching environments that allow us to platform, connect and exchange knowledge alongside emerging artists in the north west and nationally. Being the change we want to see and all that. For the last two years, we’ve balanced Short Supply with full time paid work to pay the bills (like most artists, we see you Rishi). We’ve also relied on the generosity of artists, designers, organisers, space-givers, all-round-good-eggs to share their time with us. This is how the artist-led scene works most of the time, a good deed for a good deed, we love it but we think we all deserve a bit more than that. Short Supply has become a full time job, as we move towards getting our own space, commissioning artist work, spreading artist-led activities beyond major cities and partnering with more and more organisations who need our help to link up with you lot. We’re very excited about it all, but even our quick little mitts can’t keep up with our current email load. Over the next year, the goal for us is to become self-sufficient, to finance projects on our own terms while sharing our knowledge, resources and time with you. Our Patreon page is to help us get there, to allow us to take more time off the day jobs to focus on sustaining and growing the support that we’ve been giving so far. Notable projects include our graduate art prize MADE IT (exhibitions at HOME, Rogue Artists' Studios, Paradise Works), our Arts Council England funded tour around the north west Goin Places Doin Bits, collaborations with Islington Mill, SOUP, Manchester Pride, UKNA and our programming for organisations like Manchester Art Gallery, Institute of International Visual Arts, The Whitworth and Culture Warrington.
