Portland

Our courses designed for beginners and all levels of skill run annually, and are now in their thirty-seventh year. Courses are held in the open-air, stone carving & sculpture workshop in the heart of Tout Quarry Sculpture Park & Nature Reserve and in the well equipped spacious Drill Hall Stone / Work / Space. Our Tutors are highly experienced in selecting freshly quarried stone for individual ideas, 3D sculpture, architectural forms, relief carving, letter cutting, stone masonry; and give one-to-one tuition in the development and completion of individual work. Working with freestone that can be carved in any direction informed by the pure quality of light throughout the day, reveals forms and surfaces that haven’t been exposed for 150 million years, creating a more powerful and visually informed work. Portland stone, the finest of carving stones, was once an ancient sea, formed from pure sunlight interacting with calcium carbonates in sea water. Covid 19 and social distancing Courses take place in socially distanced workshops, with reduced numbers and allocated tool sets. We have hand sanitiser, face coverings and cotton gloves, but encourage people to bring their own. Protective glasses are available for purchase. Note: Portland Sculpture & Quarry Trust (PSQT) reserves the right to change details of course dates, and course content. Pips Seminars

Professional development workshops for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. PIPS offers training workshops for Psychotherapists and Counsellors in the UK. The workshops are experiential, interactive and aimed at personal and professional growth. Places are limited. Please have a read... I love my garden it brings me such a sense of peace. As I was tending a particularly troubled rose bush, regularly troubled by black spot and aphids, I thought about how much I grow with my garden and how much of me is in it. I enjoy a sense of my own agency as I make things happen. This is not through controlling and forcing plants to be what they are not but expecting to get a healthy return in our relationship accepting limitations and sometimes choosing not to continue to grow something where I get little return or don't like what is available. This reminds me of how I have come to view relationship that if I expect to be loved and cared for in general this happens and if it does not then this is not solely my doing. I can choose to end relationships which are draining and unfruitful. The rose bush reminds me of a family member who can often cause me concern and attack me. I am now aware of how much I can safely give that relationship, without feeling drained or prickled. I get some returns enough to keep the rose bush with its limitations. I am able to keep myself open to more enriching relationship such as the honeysuckle which bounds up and offers freely this helps me tolerate the disappointments of the rose and the Lilly of the valley, which has never survived despite my efforts.

Fi Tilbury Jewellery

fi tilbury jewellery

Worcester

Fi grew up in London and throughout her childhood was always either making things, drawing or painting. She did her foundation course in London and then chose to leave the city and take her degree in Fine art Painting in the beautiful city of Bath. After spending a couple of years, based in a studio group in Bristol, making her own work, she decided to move back to London and shortly thereafter she did a PGCE and began her teaching career. After having her son, and due to work commitments, Fi and her family moved to Worcester and this is where she began honing her skills as a jeweller. She is now a jewellery designer and painter, offering unique, handmade jewellery pieces which are mostly made in silver, incorporating semi precious stones and accents of gold. Jewellery commissions are regularly undertaken and include recycling of old jewellery pieces to make new. Her jewellery is inspired by the style of ancient and archaeological pieces and natural forms and aspire to having a very handmade, and 'just dug up' look. Most of the work has been hand forged but more recently Fi has employed the lost wax casting process and now also runs workshops. Vibrant colour plays a large part in both her painting, prints and jewellery. Having trained in Fine Art, she uses the studio to paint in and undertakes portrait commissions. Having a portrait painted of a loved one can be an excellent way to mark a special birthday or occasion. As with possible jewellery commissions she would be more than happy to discuss requirements and options. There are a selection of workshops which can be booked in her studio, based on jewellery making and painting. Workshops can be a fantastic way to learn a new skill or done as a group can be a wonderful experience.
