Exciting news! My popular 'Getting Started in Data Governance' course is making it's way across the pond! Due to numerous requests, I'm thrilled to announce that I will be hosting a U.S. edition of the course.

The three day course allows us to focus on the more refined shapes of a knife specifically designed for cooking, on this course we will forge a matched pair of knives, a small pairing knife and a larger kitchen knife both with a hidden tang and two part handle in the Wa style.  The extended length of the course allows students to focus on getting a clean shape and flowing lines as well as a thing and practical blade for cooking. Please note this course is only held three times a year.  I run a strict cancellation policy. If you cannot attend the date you have booked please contact me within three weeks and I will rebook your course for free, If you contact me after this deadline you will lose your place. Refunds are not available. Courses dates can only be moved once. Courses valid for one year from date of purchase. Course Overview Lean Six Sigma is a proven combination of tools and techniques that has been used by leading organizations to improve efficiency, productivity and customer satisfaction. It achieves this by providing a rigorous and structured methodology and team approach to problem solving which leads to quality and performance improvements. Our Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training is a seven-day programme which includes an in-house project designed to provide participants with an understanding of the Six Sigma Green Belt Process and it’s practical application.  Trainees will enhance their current skills by developing a thorough understanding of the DMAIC (Define/Measure/Analyse/Improve/Control) methodology and its applications, creating a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement in their organization. In this way, key personnel become valuable contributors in achieving the larger goals and objectives of their organization. This powerful tool will enable you and your team to identify opportunities for improvement, and assist in the implementation of projects leading to efficiency by equipping key personnel with the expertise and the tools needed to manage and participate in cost reduction projects with innovative solutions.  Trainees will learn how to use data to pinpoint processes that need to be analysed and improved using the Six Sigma Tool sets, with a view to problem solving, increasing operational efficiency, improving productivity and customer satisfaction and the company’s overall business results. Our Lean Six Sigma Green Belt programme incorporates a project to be undertaken in your own organization during and after the training modules. This allows you to apply the tools, in your own working environment, to processes that are known to you, making the training relevant, and also leaving a improvement with measurable results in your organization. MINITAB (trial version can be downloaded free) and Excel software are used by participants during the training sessions and to complete their projects. Structure of the Course This 7-day training programme is divided into three modules as follows:  Define / Measure Phase - 3 days from Nov 25th to 27th, 2024 Analyse Phase - 2 days on January 13th &14th, 2025 Improve / Control Phase - 2 days on February 17th & 18th, 2025 A gap of 4 weeks between each module provides an opportunity for trainees to work on a project within their workplace, applying the methodology and tools learned during the previous module. Extra support can be provided between modules for each trainees with their project work. We provide a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Manual for all delegates, and a Certification is awarded upon completion of the Green Belt training and ONE project by each trainee in which the targeted outcomes have been achieved. An outcome report and/or project presentation which demonstrates the use of the tools and methodology is required. Cost: £1,800 + VAT per person. LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Publisher / editor Scott Pack is now in his third decade working in the world of books. During that time he has been Head of Buying for Waterstones, worked for publishers big and small - including a lengthy spell at HarperCollins - and taught numerous workshops and classes on all aspects of writing. These days he splits his time between writing his own books, editing other people's, teaching the editors of tomorrow as part of the Oxford Brookes University MA in Publishing, and he is one of the question setters for BBC's Mastermind. His latest book, Tips From A Publisher, is out now.  As a publisher, Scott has published across most genres in fiction and a wide range of non-fiction and is happy to read any style of writing. He will assess your sample and provide feedback on any issues he identifies, the manuscript's commercial potential and what steps he would advise before you submit to agents or publishers. Scott is very direct with his feedback, so expect robust, but always constructive, comments! Scott would like you to submit your fiction as a covering letter, 1-2 page synopsis and the first 5,000 words of your manuscript in a single word document.  For non-fiction, he would like to see:- 1-page synopsis – to give an overview of what the book will offer the reader and how it's different from other books out there on this topic A detailed proposed contents list, including proposed sub-section headings as well as chapter headings – to give a sense of the overall reader journey 1000-1500 words of intro text - to showcase context, tone etc 1000-1500 words from later in the book - to showcase the progression of the book (In addition to the paid sessions, Scott is kindly offering one free session for low income/underrepresented writers.
