Cambridge Open College has been providing distance learning, home study, open learning and correspondence courses since 2006. The College’s founders have more than 25 years combined expertise in education generally, and distance learning (also known as home study) in particular. Few distance-learning establishments have more experience at a “hands on” level; we’ve all been tutors and assessors in the sector for many years. Heavy investment in state-of-the-art technology has typified the College’s development, particularly in its more recent history. Our systems are second to none, and make your learning experience as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible. The College provides more than 120 courses across 5 faculties, successful completion of which result in nationally recognised qualifications listed on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF), or certification for specialist bespoke (unregulated) qualifications. Most are endorsed or accredited by some of the UK’s most prolific Awarding Organisations. The college’s students come from all walks of life, and undertake the courses for a wide range of reasons, including career enhancement, continuous professional development (CPD), and studying purely for fun to expand their existing knowledge of a hobby or stimulating subject. The Story of Mindmaps Wellbeing; After spending a solid 18 years working in various roles for the NHS, Tim recognized the significance of applying a preventative approach to mental ill health. He believed that educating workplaces and communities on the importance of mental health first aid and awareness training would equip individuals with the necessary tools to look after their own mental wellbeing and to support others.  By teaching people, the early signs of poor mental health, Tim hoped to prevent potential crises from occurring. With a sharp vision in mind, Tim shared his ambition with his friend Mikey, who was a business development manager with extensive operations experience. Recognising the value of Tim's project, Mikey eagerly joined forces to help him achieve this goal.

Manchester Environmental Education Network, or "MEEN" as it is more commonly known, is dedicated to supporting teachers, organisations and individuals working to promote environmental education and Education for Sustainability. To achieve this, we use a variety of methods: we run projects with schools, organise networking events, provide a termly newsletter and pool various free curriculum resources on this website. MEEN began life in 1994 as an informal organisation. It was run voluntarily by teachers who wanted to bring environmental issues into their teaching practice. Today, MEEN has become an independent charity. In January 2001 a coordinator was employed to support and build the network. Since then, MEEN has provided a range of CPD services, training sessions and networking events, conferences and numerous projects around sustainability with schools and educational providers. MEEN is now over 20 years old and still upholds its core values: it was set up to support its members and to promote the sustainability agenda within schools and to agencies working with schools. The first edition of Beehive, the MEEN newsletter, was produced in 1994, and despite a few changes in its format, continues to be produced today. MEEN has undergone two significant changes due to the impacts of austerity. Firstly, our remit changed from serving the city of Manchester to cover Greater Manchester. MEEN has always had members from schools in other parts of Greater Manchester so it seemed appropriate, especially as services in the other nine Council areas were being reduced, to widen our remit. Secondly, we now focus increasingly on projects working directly with schools either through the curriculum or working with young people in their Eco Committees.
