North Tyneside Music Education hub engages with all 76 schools in North Tyneside. As well as ensuring that over 9,500 young people regularly engage in our wider opportunities whole-class tuition programme each year, we also support a network of self-employed music teachers who deliver small-group and individual instrumental lessons in schools. CPD We run programmes of CPD for music teachers and associated staff, provide curriculum support and design services and are always on hand to advise schools on how to make music provision the best it can be in each individual setting. Tutors Our team of NTMEH tutors also work to lead and support ensembles and choirs ran in schools, with over 3,000 young people regularly taking part in extra-curricular musical activities across the borough each year. Young Musicians Over 5,000 young musicians are regularly involved in our North Tyneside based hub events each year, and we also provide further opportunities for our young people to engage in other regional and national events with the support of our broad network of partners. Music Centre NTMEH Music Centre provides over 300 young people with the weekly opportunity to attend a wide range of bands, orchestras, choirs and a music theory group. All of these activities are free of charge. We also facilitate the Youth Music funded Standing Upright project, which provides access to musical opportunities for disadvantaged young people from across the borough, offering them the opportunity to work towards Arts Award qualifications and to train to become a NTMEH Young Leader. Share teaching, research, capital and human resources across the consortium. Focus on teaching core curriculum subjects (English, Maths and Sciences). Use digital, creative education and training as well as heritage studies as media for teaching core curriculum subjects. Provide high quality, academically relevant extra-curricular enrichment activities across the consortium. Support volunteer teachers across the consortium with their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Initial Teacher Training (ITT). Dementia Club UK is a well-established UK charity, working hand in hand with the local community since 2013 to support people living with dementia and their carers and works in partnership with Barnet Carers and Barnet Council.  Dementia has become a growing concern and is unfortunately the leading number one killer. The main aim of a dementia club is to provide much needed respite to carers and those living with these conditions; to give our members the chance to meet socially in a relaxed atmosphere over a cup of tea and coffee and cakes and make new friends; take part in gentle exercise and fun activities.  Dementia Club UK welcomes those living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia and also provides advice and information to their carers and families and also welcomes those who have lost someone with dementia and are now lonely.  Our founder and Chairman of Dementia Club UK and also former Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet and local councillor, Lisa Rutter, wrote a paper called ‘The Dementia Club UK Model’ which outlines the core principles that have come together to form our Dementia Clubs. The charity commissioned an independent research study in May 2015, conducted by Middlesex University London, which “showed (demonstrated) that the dementia club as having a positive impact on those living with or caring for a person with dementia, based on the techniques and the model used in its cafes.”   The dementia club sessions run for 2 hours in the afternoons and provide various activities from quizzes, bingo, singing, poetry reading, arts and crafts and indoor games liking putting golf or table tennis. We then have about 30 minutes of fun exercise to music including yoga and in the final part of the session we have live music entertainment performed by various professional singers including Opera singers and Elvis and Abba impersonators.  We often invite professional speakers to attend to provide information and advice on current topics related to dementia. Our members attend our dementia clubs with their families which is something we like to encourage as it creates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Our members come from many faith communities and backgrounds which makes for exciting times when we celebrate events throughout the year.  Dementia Club UK now runs 6 dementia clubs across the Borough of Barnet and also continues to run the popular online Zoom carers group meeting every week on Tuesday evening for carers. We often have guest speakers, typically from either a medical or political background, discussing relevant topics and allowing for a question-and-answer session too. We also use this session to provide training sessions in areas of health, wellbeing and mindfulness.   Dementia Club UK has recently been recognised by the Barnet Group and was awarded Charity of the Year 2020.  We have also featured as a WHICH Support Group. A radio and video documentary was produced by the BBC to help showcase the charity and all it does for the community, both of which aired on national radio and television.   Most recently in November 2022, we are very proud to have won the tender from the London Borough of Barnet to provide training online around Understanding Dementia. The aim is to help Barnet Council as they work towards their target of becoming a Dementia Friendly Borough.  We are now delivering online training to individuals and organisations, businesses, faith communities etc with the aim of creating more dementia champions and also to help organisations to become dementia friendly. Lisa has written the one-hour training course which is CPD Certified. The course is provided online using Microsoft Teams in the mornings and ZOOM in the evenings to give people a choice.  Lisa is happy however to organise bespoke training dates if any of the dates through Eventbrite are not convenient.   We aim to continue raising awareness to reach as many people as possible in all communities, to ensure people living with dementia feel safe, included and involved while retaining control over their every day life and having the scope of choice they need to live well.

Welcome  Welcome to Maple Leaf Counselling and Training Centre. We are an independent NCPS accredited centre [https://nationalcounsellingsociety.org/] delivering a range of counselling and psychotherapeutic training courses from level 2 through to level 6. We also have a comprehensive range of CPD events.    Overview / History of ML Maple leaf was the brainchild of our Director Gail Roberts, who wanted to set up a training centre that specialised in counselling. She didn’t want it to be like a traditional school, as she wanted to focus on the vocational side of the work, so she included a number of private practitioner rooms as well so that the centre is a working therapeutic base as well.  Her aim was to be accessible to people from the wider society and we are currently working on how we access external funding to make the centre even more accessible.  We have great respect for anyone who has decided that they would like to train to be a counsellor. And as a specialist centre that only trains counsellor and psychotherapeutic therapists, we have a unique insight into the industry.  We recognise that people bring a wide range of different skills to the table from previous careers and experiences. Generally, we suggest that anyone looking at training to be a therapist begins at level 2 as this gives a good grounding some of the modalities and theories that you will be building on as you continue your training.  On occasion, dependant on your previous experience you maybe able to use some of your prior learning and start at a different point. This is usually only possible if there has been as aspect of counselling either in your work or in other education i.e. Psychology degree with a counselling module.  If you are unsure which level is suitable for you then please click the button below and book in for a chat.  It is generally accepted that your Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (or equivalent) is required level to work as a counsellor. This is the level of qualification that is expected by all main ethical bodies such as the NCPS [https://nationalcounsellingsociety.org/] and BACP [https://www.bacp.co.uk/].     Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) & National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)   CPCAB [https://www.cpcab.co.uk/about] are our awarding body and they are currently the UK’s leading awarding body specialised in counselling. They pride themselves on being built on a premise of counsellors and practitioners training counsellors and practitioners. This means that all of our tutors have to be in supervised practice whilst working with you on the courses they teach. This is a wonderful base to come from as it means that we have a large body of different experiences from counselling children and young people to sex therapists, psychodynamic, gestalt and more. This means that we offer a rich base to do your training from. We also encourage all of our team to join whichever ethical body they feel suits them as we hold a firm stance that it is unethical to ‘force’ someone to join a particular ethical body.  CPCAB are regulated by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA) and Qualifications Wales. These are the public bodies responsible for regulating qualifications in England, Northern Ireland and Wales respectively. (CPCAB 2024) Maple Leaf are a NCPS accredited centre and NCPS oversee our course content and training alongside CPCAB. NCPS audit on a yearly basis and CPCAB come in 2 -3 times a year to make sure that we are all running safe and ethical courses.
