Parkside School is based in the village of Cullingworth on the edge of Bradford where we are a part of the local community. The Leeds City Region is a city region in the North of England comprising Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. The Leeds City Region is vibrant, exciting and diverse with a rich history that cuts across industry, commerce, culture and style. We not only need to prepare young people for working in the capital of the north and its surrounding area but in industries that are only just developing and in roles that currently do not exist. Research in the Journal of Education suggests that better informed teenagers are likely to make more advantageous careers choices and this in turn can be linked to higher earnings in adult life and that is why excellent preparation for the future is part of our mission statement. I have been a science teacher for over 20 years and a senior leader for more than 15 years, working in multicultural and diverse schools across both Leeds and Bradford. As headteacher I have an absolute passion and commitment to inclusive education as a way of improving the life chances of young people and their families. I believe that this is done through delivering the highest quality teaching and learning, whilst developing the whole young person in terms of their character, skills and ability to show resilience to the ever changing and challenging world around them. We are an amazing special school and 6th Form with up to 150 students aged between 11 to 19 years old. Students are taught in classes of up to 12 individuals, supported by a teacher and normally at least 1 teaching assistant. Most new students join us in September in either Year 7 or Year 12 but we do admit young people into other year groups throughout the year where vacancies exist. Our students all have complex learning & additional needs (LAN) and all are supported by an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) which is reviewed annually. The majority of students join us are operating at least 3 to 4 years below chronological expectations. Our students’ additional needs include global developmental delay, autism, ADHD / ODD/ADD, anxiety, OCD, sleep apnoea, cerebral palsy, visual or hearing impairment, dyspraxia/coordination difficulties, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, chromosomal abnormalities including Down syndrome, speech, language & communication difficulties. It is our explicit aim to facilitate every opportunity to help address our students wider ‘therapeutic’ needs. Whilst some of our students have some mobility difficulties, due to the split-level nature of our site we are unable to cater for young people in wheelchairs. We describe our young people as not disabled but differently abled. We have a highly dedicated, experienced and specially trained staff team committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for every young person. We believe in building a real and lasting sense of community and belonging – we are proud of being an especially welcoming school. Feeling safe and developing positive and trusting relationships are key to our students’ success. Securing our students’ wellbeing and positive mental health is central to our provision. We employ a multi-disciplinary approach in meeting the needs of our students and each individual is following their own personalised programme. We place special emphasis on partnership working (with parents, other professionals, Local Authorities, business / industry and the local community). Everything we do is designed to ensure positive & successful adult life chances for our students (not just ‘next steps’). The school is located in 21 acres of peaceful and beautiful woodland and we are proud of the high quality and well maintained learning environment we have created, including many specialist resources and teaching areas. Carwarden House Community School and Sixth Form grounds are owned by Surrey County Council.

Gosforth Civic Theatre is an arts venue, café and community hub in Gosforth, and is home to, and run by, Liberdade Community Development Trust. Liberdade is a disability arts organisation, we began in 2003 as an apprenticeship scheme with the aim of enabling 8 young people with learning disabilities to set up and run their own physical theatre company. Those 8 original company members and now many more show how running an organisation can offer people with learning disabilities choice, and the opportunity to shape the world in which they live. We opened Gosforth Civic Theatre in 2016, and in 2019 we hosted more than 900 events and activities, and invited over 50,000 people through our doors. In the words of Ozzy, one of our founding members, we opened the theatre because; “Historically society has created places for people with learning disabilities to go, at Gosforth Civic Theatre, people with learning disabilities are creating a place where everyone can come together.” Like all arts organisations we want to change the world, we want to bring people together to create understanding, we want to decide what is the new normal by being extraordinary, and we want to shape our community by telling our stories and providing a home for everyone to enjoy.

ACT Drama School attracts students of all ages and walks of life and enables people to realistically achieve their ambition of a career as an actor in the performing arts. Classes are in the evenings and at weekends so that students can continue to meet their working and/or domestic commitments whilst re-training. Affordable Training ACT Drama School runs on a non profit making basis so we can offer quality training at affordable rates.   Our ethos is to provide access to professional Drama Training for talented individuals who have been unable to follow traditional routes into the acting profession through lack of academic qualifications, financial restrictions or family responsibilities.   ATCL Two Year Diploma in Acting One Year Foundation in Acting Two Week Acting Workshop Short Courses is Acting, Screen Acting, Playwriting and Summer Schools. Students must be 18+ to apply to the Diploma and 16+ for the Foundation and all other adult courses. There is no upper age limit.   ACT Kids Theatre offers acting classes for children and young people from 6 to 18. We are also the home to our 50 seater Lantern Theatre with it's own Cafe/Bar on 77 St James's Street, Brighton. The ACT team is comprised of highly experienced, passionate and dedicated actors and directors. They bring their own current professional practice into the classroom, relish the opportunity to nurture new talent and are committed to creating a safe, supportive and inspiring creative environment.   ACT tutors are currently working at the National Theatre, the Lyric, the Globe, the RSC and the BBC. Similarly ACT graduates are to be found working on National and European tours, on BBC television and Radio, Independent Films, TIE tours and so on.

We work across Suffolk and Norfolk to try to meet the needs of students with SEND. Priory School, Stone Lodge Academy and Chalk Hill offer school based learning environments in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and Sudbury. Mount Road specialist Autism Unit is based within Priory School with spaces for six young people from Year 7. Angel Hill college is prt of the Priory 6th form offer and is the location of the post 16 green pathway. They are based at Angel Hill College in Bury St Edmunds
