Karen enjoys working with a range of painting and drawing media, including printmaking, sometimes combining these to create mixed media images. Each type of medium brings its own exciting possibilities and unique qualities, something she continually explores. Her interest in Printmaking developed at Kendal College whilst completing a Foundation Degree in Drawing with the University of Cumbria. She finds the quality of the marks produced particualrly fascinating and experiencing the reveal is one of the joys of working with printmaking processes Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Cumbria and Lancashire over the last 25 years and she has been involved with projects including Printfest, C-Art and Go Herdwick. Karen is an experienced qualified teacher and has been teaching art in the adult education sector since 2011. She teaches for large organisations as well as running classes for private groups and individuals. Greywalls Studio, Lindale, has recently become her studio home, a perfect creative base in lovely Cumbria.

Jamie knows his craft inside out; yet despite his comprehensive expertise he flatly refuses to consider himself anything beyond 'a fortunate student of the dog'Jamie divides his time between the provision of established, highly regarded and sought-after dog training and behaviour services, and actively campaigning on behalf of dog welfare and responsible dog ownership; the two most influential factors in the services Take the Lead Training provides. Jamie has been directly involved with improving the welfare, training and behaviour of dogs for 20 years. A former police dog handler for a decade, he knows exactly what it means to train dogs for the real arena – for life. With a foundation degree in canine studies, an extensive knowledge base and as a former qualified member of the APDTUK, Jamie wrote behavioural reports for a branch of a major national welfare charity, and has provided handling, behaviour and training lessons for staff and volunteers within the animal shelter sector.

Bright stars Childcare is a family run business that opened in September 2014 by owners Sandra and Anil Ozdemir who are parents themselves so understand the importance of choosing childcare that meets your child's individual needs, helping them develop confidence through positive experiences. Sandra manages the nursery day to day and thoroughly enjoys getting to know all the children and their families. Sandra completed her foundation degree in 2019 and has 20 years’ experience working in childcare, therefore knows the benefits of working closely with her team supporting them with professional development enabling them to build on their current skills and knowledge to provide children with opportunities to develop further. Anil is the business manager and is responsible for the structure of the business, taking care of finances, budgets, fees, and improvements. Anil has regular visits to the nursery where he gets to meet children and families. Both Shelley and Danielle, the eldest daughters of the family also play an important part in Bright Stars, working with the children and completing administrative duties.

Students spend the first two years to attain a Foundation Degree, and then have the option to top up their qualification to gain a full honours degree, either with us at University Centre Leeds or at an alternative institution.
