	<p>The practical assessment must be carried out by the Tutor during the relevant part of the course for all candidates. This is to ensure that every candidate can demonstrate their individual ability and correct method for: </p>

<li>Working safely at a fume cupboard whilst using a stereo microscope to examine samples </li>              						
<li>Correctly preparing slides for examination under a polarising microscope </li>              						
<li>Setting up a polarising microscope to allow identification of asbestos types within a sample</li>

	<li><h1>Written Examination</h1>     	 					
		<p>This is an open book examination comprising of approximately 30 (100 marks) short-answer questions, with variable marks, illustrated by photographs and diagrams, as appropriate, to be answered in 90 minutes. The examination covers ALL sections of the syllabus in proportion to the time allocation given on the front page of the syllabus and is overseen by a BOHS invigilator.</p>  				</li>          				
	<li><h1>Practical Examination </h1>     	 					
		<p>This is an open book practical examination with a time allowance of 4 hours, which requires candidates to identify the asbestos types in six samples. The samples are from the AIMs scheme, provided to BOHS by HSL. Candidates are permitted to access relevant hard copy reference material only. Communication between candidates is not permitted. The examination is overseen by a BOHS specialist invigilator who will confirm suitability of the facilities.</p>   		</li>    			</ul>

The fines issued for these non-compliances total over &pound;570,000 plus costs. The absence of staff training, or requirement to complete additional training, was noted in a number of these cases.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Many of the breaches resulting in enforcement action involved failures by the fee earners to conduct appropriate due diligence, adequately check the source of funds and/or wealth or recognise and report red flags. We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.

In January 2024 alone, reports were published about the SRA taking enforcement action against 3 firms and 4 individuals for failure to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. The fines issued for these non-compliances total over £570,000 plus costs. The absence of staff training, or requirement to complete additional training, was noted in a number of these cases.
As a manager of a law firm, or more crucially an MLRO or MLCO, the ultimate responsibility for the firm's compliance, including with the MLR 2017, lies with you. It is your responsibility to ensure that the firm puts in place, reviews and updates compliant policies, controls and procedures. You must ensure that the firm maintains an up to date practice wide risk assessment. You are required to ensure that your employees are regularly given training on the MLR 2017 and associated risks.
If a breach occurs, the SRA will take a wider look at the firm and identify any supervisory deficiencies that may have contributed to failures by fee earners or support staff. It has proven that it will not shy away from holding to account managers, compliance officers and MLRO/MLCOs for failures by their firms to comply with requirements of the MLR 2017.

This Introduction to ECG Course is divided into two parts: Part 1 covers theory (online) and should be completed before Part 2 - practical training (classroom or virtual classroom)
 
A nurse or paramedic-led half-day session covering essential practical skill-sets required to set up and record a valid ECG trace.
 
A SHORT PRELIM / PRIMER COURSE "GETTING STARTED IN ECG" IS INCLUDED AS A SEPARATE COURSE FOR THOSE ENROLLING WITH NO PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF ECG RECORDING (3 SECTIONS, NO QUESTIONS!)
