Based in Wooler, Northumberland, STARS Learning Centre Ltd is a bespoke educational teaching service which caters for children, adults, schools and groups.DIFFERENT APPROACH STARS Learning Centre Ltd was created to address the gap in education for children in Northumberland who struggle with a traditional school curriculum. The confines and narrowing of the current educational system means that some children are not progressing and feel isolated and excluded. This means that gifted and talented, special needs children, children who are struggling with maths and or english need a different approach and that is where we at STARS Learning Centre come in. We offer 1-1 in and out of school times. Each student works on a bespoke learning plan at their level and at their pace. We include in our classes in cooking, healthy lifestyle and gardening. OUR INTENTION Our intention is to offer children and young people the chance to learn, grow and realise their full potential educationally and in the wider world. STARS Learning achieves this through 1:1 tuition, collaborative learning, small group work in schools covering bespoke projects including, gardening, cooking and other practical experiences. These offer the space for young people to thrive because they promote collaborative learning and foster effective communication skills.

We have around 255 children on roll, with eleven classes, including a Nursery and a specialist facility for children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Autism Spectrum Condition. opus - an organisation for promoting understanding of society

It was founded by Sir Charles Goodeve in 1975 with the object of promoting understanding of society and of organisations within society. He believed that, if we were better able to understand the processes operating in industry and society – particularly those causing conflict – then our decisions could become more rational, we would become more effective managers of ourselves and others and we would be able to act with greater authority and responsibility as citizens. In establishing OPUS as a non-political organisation with charitable status, Sir Charles was supported and encouraged by The Tavistock Institute and the Industrial Society. Its study and promotion of a better understanding of society – how it works and how the individual relates to it – was recognised as a distinctive field that was not addressed by other bodies. OPUS aims to develop a deeper understanding of conscious and unconscious organisational and social dynamics; and to promote reflective citizenship – using this understanding to act authoritatively and responsibly as members of society and organisations within society. OPUS pursues this aim through a combination of education and training, academic research and publication and organisational consultancy and coaching, and by external communication of our findings to a wider audience. OPUS also maintains links with organisations both nationally and internationally with similar aims.

Blacksmithing is the craft where, by working the iron in its hot, plastic state it is possible to shape and transform what is normally considered a hard-edged material into an altogether softer, more fluid expression. From small fittings to larger architectural applications, ironwork may be designed and used to enrich both the visual and physical aspects of our environment. Commissions Whether public or private commissions, from design concept to full realisation, open communication and two way dialogue is welcome, as finer tuning of the design at early stages can often result in greater and more unusual detailing. It is here that iron working gives the chance for personal expression and thereby uniqueness in the detailing to the specific commission. It is the ART, or unison, that drives the CRAFT, and good craft enables full and lasting realisation. I use a wide variety of blacksmith and metal working techniques including hot forging processes, plate and sheet forming, repousse, rivetting, welding, pattern making for cast iron work and etching. Their appropriate application is determined by the type of work itself.
