Duke of Kent School

One of the most significant and important decisions you will make in life is choosing the right school for your child. It is a decision that will not only shape their development but also the type of person they will become in later life. When making this choice, you want the very best for your child and we want that too. You want to provide them with an environment where they can be stretched, challenged and nurtured and find their individual spark. You also want them to be happy, safe and nurtured and to have the platform where they can grow into a healthy, confident and compassionate young adult. The greatest gift we give each child is a passion for learning and a real curiosity about the world around them. At Duke of Kent School near Guildford in Surrey, we all care deeply about educating the whole child. I am very proud of the incredible teaching staff who recognise the individuality and strengths of each of our pupils and challenge them to be the best they can be, whilst allowing them the freedom to be exactly who they want to be. As well as the best possible academic learning environment, the breadth of the music, drama, creative arts and sports opportunities set us apart. Our after school activities programme is also designed to give the students opportunities to develop new passions and talents. We are a thriving independent school from Nursery to GCSE and our pupils leave our care as happy, independent, rounded, grounded individuals with many joyful memories, and a desire to go out into the world and make a difference. That is my very definition of a successful school. Please do come and visit us and discover this wonderful School for yourself. Mrs Sue Knox BA, MBA, MEd Executive Councillor to the Board of the Independent Schools' Association (ISA) Chair of the ISA Finance Committee Please contact our Admissions team for how to apply for a place at our independent co-educational school.

2010 Taekwondo

2010 taekwondo

We practice WTF Taekwondo which is represented in the Olympics. Class is taught by Instructor Matt Stein who trained under GrandMaster Fred Lee in the 1970's in London and GrandMaster Dung LeVan from 1980-90's in Bristol. Students from as young as 5 can start their training. The classes are mixed in terms of age and grade with adults training alongside children. The club is run on simple principles both old and new. The five tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control and Indomitable Spirit are taught. Matt's approach is serious but not overly strict. The focus remains on technique and practical application of self-defence. It is intended that through repetitive training, the skills and techniques required to defend oneself will be learned. The addition of competition sparring sharpens the reactions and helps to refine technical skills. Not all students want to fight so in this modern era of martial arts they too are accommodated. There are many aspects of martial arts and not all are about fighting. Some students come to boost self-esteem and confidence. This can be achieved simply by participating and refining technical skills. One-step sparring and patterns are a good way to learn this. The Self-defence class has now closed and in it's place is the new Taekwondo Games class. This class is essentially for the younger students to channel their energy into a branch of the art form. The class will consist of an essential warm up of muscles and joints, followed by technical punches, blocks and kicking. This will lead onto a series of fun and lightly competitive games, some solo, others in groups. Light sparring can be done by those who want to. Congratulations to Rowan, Logan and Ava who all reached 3rd Dan grades in April 2022. They have all been shining stars throughout their training and now help in teaching too. They have become wonderful ambassadors to the club.

Stockton Sixth Form College

Stockton-on-Tees

Stockton Sixth Form College has built an exceptional reputation for academic achievement over many years and, as the only specialist sixth form college in Stockton on Tees, has over 40 years’ experience delivering A-level, BTEC and GCSE qualifications to students aged 16-19 from across the region. In 2016, we became the first sixth form college in 18 years to merge, when we formalised our working partnership with Prior Pursglove College. The merger helped safeguard sixth form college education in each respective borough and now enables us to move forward in a strong position to fulfil our vision of offering high quality education across a wide range of courses in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Ofsted judged Stockton Sixth Form to be a ‘Good’ college across all areas in its latest report, noting “high success rates across all levels of study” and “very effective support for students”. Inspectors commented on “lively and dynamic” learning facilitated by staff who “motivate students strongly to complete high quality work to fulfil their potential”. You can read the full report here. The college has a vibrant, diverse and friendly environment with around 600 students. We are committed to providing inspirational teaching led by staff who are specialists in their field. The small and inclusive nature of the college enables us to keep class sizes to a minimum – an average of 15 students per lesson – ensuring each student is given the individual support needed to excel. It is our focus on developing students into all-round individuals that enables students to secure their next step successfully. Ofsted recognised that the college “prepares students well for progression to their next steps” and that “all completing students had a positive destination to either further or higher education or employment”. Progression on to higher education from Stockton Sixth Form College bucks the national trend and we also offer a prestigious scholarship opportunity for students who achieve a place to study at Oxbridge.

Our basic model works in two ways: Community classes for adults age 18 and up are run out of our Shawlands Language Nest, offered on a semester basis, in-person and online for a period of 10 weeks each time. These classes are bookable by individuals through our website here. The surplus revenue from these community classes cross-subsidise our work with older adults, including those living with dementia in care homes, community groups and day centres across Scotland. These care classes are only bookable in partnership with an organisation. If you are interested in this kind of class and are acting on behalf of your organisation, you can book a taster classes of this type here. The Language Nest A picture of students from our 2022 Summer Semester in the cosy Shawlands Language Nest! We run classes for adults of all ages in our very own Lingo Flamingo Language Nest, located in Shawlands, Glasgow, an area known for its vibrancy, diversity and strong sense of community. We still use the same sensory, stimulating techniques to make classes fun and accessible, but these classes are designed for those living without a dementia diagnosis from age 18 upwards. We also continue to emphasise the health benefits and show that language learning can be for everyone. All the money that is raised through the Language Nest gets put towards our work with older adults including those living with dementia. That’s to say, each and every penny of surplus revenue is used to cross-subsidise classes for older adults and those living with dementia across Scotland. As such, the Nest not only acts as a way to change perceptions of language learning, but as means to expand our social impact. It also means that any student joining our flock will not only gain from the benefits of language learning, but can feel good about having created a positive effect on society. Everyone’s a winner.

At Award

London

Our father Tom Johnson started Awards Ltd. in 1977 in the dining room of his house in Urbana IL where he produced engraved products such as plaques, signs and awards. In 1982 he moved Awards Ltd. to Champaign, IL, where he set up shop in the loft of his new home, adding promotional items to his line of products. In 1989 Tom acquired a similar business called Signmaster which made signs, name tags, and rubber stamps. He merged Awards Ltd with Signmaster operation and moved the business to Henson Place in Champaign, where Awards Ltd. is still located today. He then decided to bring on his two sons Glenn and Kenny to help with the additional production efforts needed to produce these new products. Glenn and Kenny took over most of the production side of the business, and although Tom still kept his hands busy with some production work, he focused primarily on promotional products and the business side of things. In 1996 Glenn and Kenny took over managemnt of the business, overseeing all aspects of production, bookkeeping and marketing. In 2000 Tom decided to retire paving the way for Glenn and Kenny to take over ownership of the business. Tom still came to work every day, helping with production, but the thing he liked doing the most was working on the computer setting up artwork for promotional products and other production items. Tom has since retired completely, but he still stops by every day to say hi. He will be 86 years young on May 29, 2017. Currently it is just the two of us (Glenn and Kenny) and our loyal co-worker Sarah who is a very hard worker and in the process of learning all aspects of our business. Sarah has been with us for a little over a 3 years now. We are still going strong after 40 years in business! Awards Ltd, where ideas are unlimited!

Copycast Studios

Tardebigge

So, who are Copycast Studios and where did it all begin? Take a look at the timeline below to see our journey... 2005 Dean & Natalie made the first mould of their newborn baby's foot in their kitchen using some leftover body-casting material that Dean was using for a replica movie prop project. After copies are given to relatives, positive feedback sparks a new business idea. I 2006 With research and a business plan, Dean & Natalie stumble across a vacant shop at Hatton Country World. Copycast Studios opens it's first premises in April 2006, leaving their salaried careers behind. I 2008 Shop premises closes. However, a steady growth and a customer-base covering The West Midlands, The Cotswolds, Birmingham, Worcestershire and Warwickshire (and occasionally other areas) sees the mobile baby casting service launched instead. I 2009 Copycast Studios starts making their own line of shadow box frames and keepsakes including personalised giftware. I 2010/11 Ebay shop opens selling DIY casting kits, box frames, casting materials and other keepsakes. Orders start coming in and we are sending parcels all over the country and even abroad. I 2019 After taking a back seat in place of other projects, a re-launch is planned that includes a new website focussing on casting services and DIY casting kits. I 2020 Copycast Studios continues to grow an online presence with shops on Etsy, eBay, MadeMe and the launch of the new website. I The future... With the outbreak of COVID-19, it's clear that the way we interact with each other and shop will change forever. Therefore, we'll adapt and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to create a beautiful keepsake of their own with more and more DIY casting kits and socially-distanced casting sessions. We have lots of ideas too big to put on here, but make sure that you keep up to date by clicking one of the social links at the top of this page and connecting with us!
