Strong Like a Mutha was Founded in 2016 by Lyndsey Roberts after the birth of her son. Having previously been a professional dancer and exercised her whole life, Lyndsey found herself in a whole new world with a high risk pregnancy and very little evidence based information on safe and effective training for women in her situation. Ultimately this resulted in the complete halting of exercise which then caused lots of pain and discomfort throughout her pregnancy. Returning to exercise postnatally Lyndsey knew there had to be more information out there and began to feel drawn to helping and supporting women in the fitness industry. And so Strong Like a Mutha was born! Lyndsey and the SLAM community have created a gym environment (The Mutha Ship) that is welcoming, inviting, non-intimidating and allows its members to work as hard as they like. Following requests from young people for a safe meeting place in Monmomouth local residents came together with young people to meet that need. The group became known as Monmouth Youth Project. In 2001 the Attik youth centre was opened (by the Bus Station) providing Monmouth’s young people with a safe place to socialise which is supported by professional youth workers. Young people were actively involved in the design of the Attik and the appointment of staff. In 2011 the Attik relocated to the Library Annex, next to the Library on Whitecross Street. At the Attik, young people are able to access a range of facilities, activities, trips, workshops and on site services including specialist youth workers, counselling and a young people’s health clinic. OPEN TO ALL YOUNG PEOPLE The Attik is open to all young people aged 11 – 25 years though it is mainly used by those aged 11 – 16. Those aged 16 and above tend to drop in for specific services. The Attik is free to use. Staffing – Youth workers are employed by Monmouthshire County Council’s Youth Services. Staff are qualified to National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Youth and Community Work or working towards this qualification. All staff and volunteers with access to young people have been cleared by the Data Baring Scheme (Criminal Record Bureau).

Since the birth of Lifetime Learning, the organisation has grown and further providing more courses. Lifetime Learning’s main source of funding is achieved through Analyse School Performance (ASP) Training and Consultancy. Analyse School Performance (ASP) Training and Consultancy is provided for all schools and local authorities, analysing the school’s performance and progress data. The mission is to provide quality and multifaceted courses in education and training for Early Years, Primary, Secondary, Special, Church and Independent Schools. Lifetime Learning started off providing IT Training to disadvantaged young people in Tower Hamlets. We have successfully grown and now provide over 15 different courses that are open to the general public! Lifetime Learning is dedicated to working with individuals who want to better themselves. Achieving the fulfilment of education and helping individuals achieve sustainable employment in their desired fields is what we strive for. We work towards spreading permanent change in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets by reducing the unemployment rate, as well as increasing health and social well-being. Lifetime Learning works with grassroots organisations that have gone through a stringent selection process. Would you like to partner with us? I started going to yoga classes when I was just 16, tagging along with my Mum who had been going for years to her favourite teacher Sam. Yoga stayed with me throughout my adolescence, and I always found a class wherever I was, whether at University, on holiday or when I moved away from home. When I settled in Kent, I found an amazing teacher, Rebecca Papa-Adams, who was teaching at my local gym, and I was hooked, I went to yoga several times a week, practiced at home and started becoming interested in the non physical side of yoga. Rebecca convinced me to start my teacher training, even though my immediate plans included marriage and babies. I began my 500 hour teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga in 2015, shortly after I got married, and unbeknown to me I was already pregnant on the first day of teacher training. I studied for 2.5 years with the British Wheel of Yoga and formed an amazing circle of mentors, teachers and friends throughout that time. I ended up studying and teaching throughout both my pregnancies, which added a whole other dimension to my journey. Seeing the amazing physical and mental effects of yoga whilst being pregnant encouraged me to begin pregnancy teacher training in 2019 soon after my second baby was born; he even joined me on my teacher training days. Yoga provides a lot of different things for different people, but for me it has been present for most of my adult life keeping me grounded, physically mobile and calm. It's opened my mind to other areas of health that I would have never explored otherwise. It's not about being the most flexible or being able to meditate for hours on end, but having strategies and coping mechanisms to live a happy and vibrant life. The classes I teach all include an element of strength, so that when you do stretch, its safe and controlled. I'd love for you to join me at one of my classes, whatever stage you are at.
