It is my pleasure to be the Headteacher at Chelmer Valley High School. I am passionate about education and have been since joining the profession 30 years ago. Children deserve the very best education we can offer and ‘to be the very best’, is the underlying theme in all we aspire to do. I have worked in a number of schools as a senior leader and my previous post was also that of Headteacher. I have been fortunate through my career to work in a variety of settings from Inner City to a range of overseas posts in which I had the absolute privilege of being part of setting up a brand new British based school. I am very proud that visitors regularly comment on our ethos, the conduct and very positive attitude to learning of the students. The staff are superb and completely committed to supporting all the students in both their academic and social development. I have had the pleasure of working closely with our Primary partner schools enabling students to make the transition to Chelmer in a seamless manner. We are rich in a research culture and the effective sharing of good practice both within the school and across other schools. The underlying ethos of the school is enable all young people to access an education that is appropriate, inspiring, challenging and broad.

As a Yoga teacher she teaches Yoga inspired movement that is slow paced and breath oriented with some elements of strength building. It focuses on finding space and length in a body, connecting to the breath and activating parasym- pathetic nervous system. While practicing postures the students are asked to enquire about the ‘feeling’ sensations in the body. Ashka is also a trained Counsellor. She has found lots of parallel between yoga and Counselling as both can help the clients to focus on the present moment, enhance the ability to observe thoughts and feelings and gain greater self- awareness. In Ashka’s opinion they beautifully complement each other and together they give an opportunity to work in a complementary way with both Body and Mind. We are multidimensional beings and our well being is not only associated with mind and body, To consider ourselves as a whole we need to recognise that we are a part of something bigger, of nature, or universe. Ashka is also a Reiki Master bringing all three dimensions of Mind, Body and Spirit into her work. Ashka has interest in various traditions: Western Esoterism, Mysticism, Yogic philosophy and Buddhism and have trained as a Meditation Teacher and in various yoga styles: Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative and Yin Yoga. Her practices are informed by these disciplines.

At COP 24 in Katowice, Poland [November 2018] Harwood Education and UNITAR held a joint press conference to announce a non-financial agreement that would allow Harwood Education to access 5 of UNITAR’s climate change trainings, adapt them for and offer them to teachers for free.These courses still form the foundational training within our Bronze Award. Harwood Education, covered the costs of the video editing, voice overs and supporting documentation, marketing and social media and invested to create a joint portal that could handle the volume of teachers who wanted to take the teacher training. eduCCate Global was launched on Earth Day, April 22, 2019. By the end of that year, 329K teachers in 43 countries had taken and completed the first Climate Change Teacher Training in the world. In November 2019, Melanie Harwood was invited to speak at The Climate Change in Education Conference in Dubai. It was also an opportunity to visit a school there where every teacher was a Certified Climate Change Teacher and to meet key stakeholders in education in the Middle East region. Mitch has personally worked with thousands of athletes throughout his career. His clients not only have won world series rings, played in the NFL and MLS, and competed in the Olympics, but they have achieved great personal success in local competitive events and leagues. His clientele has ranged from 6 to 54 years old. In addition to being the founder and President of MTS, Mitch serves as the Prevention, Rehab, and Physical Performance Coordinator for 17 sports, as well as the strength and conditioning coach for Women’s basketball and Volleyball at Missouri State University. At MSU, he utilizes his knowledge of performance enhancement and sports medicine to coordinate the rehab and injury prevention programs for all varsity sports while simultaneously improving the athletic performance for the Lady Bear teams. His areas of interest included functional movement and biomechanics, high speed treadmill training, and metabolics. He believes that sports are not only a great outlet for people of all ages and levels to get exercise, express themselves and relieve stress, but it teaches us all a great deal about ourselves and others.
