I’m the eldest of three girls, and as we were growing up, our mum made wedding dresses, upholstered furniture and created most of our clothes on her sewing machine. So I think it was inevitable that one of us would grow up with a creative streak. I’ve always enjoyed making things, not all of my ventures have been successful, but since moving into our current house and being somewhat uninspired by the range of beige lampshades on offer on the high street, I decided to learn how to make my own. Since that day I’ve become addicted. I feel lucky to have found a way to combine my love of beautiful fabrics with interiors – and spread the lampshade love to homes across Yorkshire and beyond. It’s something I take great pride in. I’m passionate about helping clients find that perfect fabric to match their new scheme and make them something unique – something they couldn’t find on the High Street. I also love teaching people how to make their own, on my lampshade making workshops – the smile as their lampshade starts to take shape is priceless. Kathy King is a Science and Psychology specialist who has worked with a variety of vulnerable groups including young people with special educational needs, including social, emotional and behavioural problems, and the homeless. She is passionate about showing others the power of being active in nature and using outdoor activities as a tool to improve wellbeing. Her research has proven that participation in a 6-week Forest School programme can increase attendance and reduce exclusion rates from mainstream school. Applying the fundamentals of the holistic Forest School approach in all that she does, Kathy believes this can create positive changes in behaviour. Kathy made a life-changing decision to leave teaching and enrol on an outdoor instructor programme after experiencing high levels of work-related stress and anxiety. The 2-day a week course provided an opportunity to master new skills and focus on what she considered to be most important in life. It was on the water that the idea for the Wild Camp Training Programme was born. This is a project aimed at young women who are currently out of education, employment and/or training (N.E.E.T) and is designed to empower and increase physical and mental health. Since then, the charity has evolved to deliver after school clubs, forest school sessions, holiday clubs, 1-1 outdoor activity sessions and group days out.

Welcome to London Fields Fitness Studio (Est.2010), founded by fitness superstar Sapan Sehgal. His philosophy for the studio is to provide fun and affordable fitness for the community, so that even if you've lost your job or eaten a little too much Deliveroo this month, you can still squeeze a workout into the budget without breaking the bank! Because #Science, we know that regular exercise is crucial to maintaining good physical and even mental health, so it's our job to make it as enjoyable and accessible as possible for everyone, from Auntie May who's a little on the heavy side to Nephew Billie who's at college, living on pot noodles. After years working in commercial central London gyms, Sapan wanted to create the anti-gym; a fun and friendly space, full of laughs and good times, that anyone and everyone would feel welcome in- less machines, less mirrors. We pride ourselves on leaving our fitfam with a warm and fuzzy feeling after class, and super sore muscles the next day! We love developing new and exciting classes and innovations that are unique to the studio e.g. Booty Camp, YogaHIIT, Lovercise and HulaFit. We are big believers in body-weight based exercises and work hard to encourage originality and creativity amongst our instructors within that framework.

Anne started academic life as a zoologist, having been ‘good at sciences’ at school. She moved into the world of accountancy for much of her career and is now a potter. Working with ceramics is a wonderful blend of science and art. There are many points in the process at which a pot can go wrong- cracking during drying, exploding during firing, the glaze not fitting; the list is almost endless. Those are mostly solvable through the application of science. A pot can also go ‘wrong’ because it simply doesn’t please the eye- the shape can be top heavy, a handle can be beautiful but wrong for the pot. Again, the list could be endless. However, the joy in a pot that works aesthetically and that has survived the brutal ceramic processes is a deep pleasure that makes the pursuit of ceramics such a pleasurable chase. Feeling, like many potters, that there is a life time of experimentation ahead of her, Anne particularly enjoys the experimental intrigue of clay. In recent years she has been exploring porcelain slip casting in natural forms, such as avocado skins, and the effects of rain on glazed, but as yet unfired pots. The scientist is never far below the surface. Anne works in her garden studio in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
