Baby Week Leeds

Leeds

Baby Week is a registered charity and aims to bring sectors and services together to promote the best start in life. The initiative was inspired by Brazil’s ‘Semana do Bebe’ (UNICEF 2010), following a visit to the country by Churchill Fellow Lucy Potter. Leeds hosted the first English speaking Baby Week in 2016 and since has had interest from several other towns and cities wanting to host their own celebrations. Since Baby Week became a registered charity, Bradford, Hull, Wakefield, Cheshire and Merseyside have organised their very own take on Baby Week Leeds. In 2019, we were nominated and came in second place as charity of the year by The British Journal of Midwifery Practice Awards (BJM). Over the past six years, hundreds of citywide events have been held with thousands of attendees including parents, expectant parents, practitioners and professionals , and of course babies! Each city hosting the week has the opportunity to celebrate and bring together the work of maternity and early years services, helping to raise awareness of the critical developmental growth stages and a real focus on the 1001 days in order to give every baby the best start in life. Baby Week is organised with Child Friendly Leeds with partnerships involving NHS Leeds, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds Dads, Public Health, Mumbler, and many more partners across all sectors. To mark the 5 years in 2020, Baby Week Leeds focussed on five of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a focus over the next few years: Good Health and Wellbeing, Reduced Inequality, Sustainable cities and communities, Climate action and No Poverty.

Penny Parks Training is the authorised training provider of Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT). Parks Inner Child Therapy provides rapid and painless resolution of trauma & childhood abuse to the many victims worldwide. Although originally devised in the late 1970s this therapy model has continually evolved to remain at the cutting edge of the resolution of trauma, childhood abuse & emotional challenges. It is probably the most effective model available with the most significant feature being that it can bring about change gently as there is no need to disclose any details of traumatic events. The rapidity of its effectiveness has been enhanced by the introduction, in 1996, of the PICT Quick Change model, devised originally to cater for clients from overseas; where resolution may be completed in a series of 5 consecutive days of 4 hour sessions. (The QC 4 hour sessions can also be offered in weekly, 2 or 3 day formats). Penny Parks Training also provides a valuable resource to clients, practitioners and health professionals, as well as anyone interested in the topic of childhood abuse and its related subjects. Penny Parks herself was consulted as an expert in the field by health professionals, the media and in legal cases. Whilst this site is a comprehensive resource in the field of Child Abuse (recognition, treatment & training), if you cannot find the information you require please contact us directly and we will endeavour to provide the help you are seeking. Interested in Therapy? – click on the “Find a Therapist” link on the “Quick Menu” to find a therapist in your area. Tutor Your Child

London

We have always been passionate about helping others and, during the pandemic, we saw the anxieties of parents trying to keep up with, and understand, their child’s learning. We could see what parents really wanted was support and guidance and we started to think how we could offer this through ‘Tutor Your Child’. We decided to put together a programme which will help and guide families through each school year for maths and English, nurture confidence and mental health as well as try and support any additional needs. ‘Tutor Your Child’ is an online subscription service for parents of children Reception to Year 6, to help with maths and/or English. Each week, parents receive a short video showing them what to teach and how to teach it, with supporting activities. By the end of the academic year, parents will have covered the skills within the curriculum with their child in small, manageable steps and been part of their child’s learning journey. There will be assessment opportunities along the way so they can keep track of their child’s progress. We are passionate about children’s mental health so ‘Tutor Your Child’ includes helpful advice through regular blog articles and access to our ‘Wellbeing Zone’; offering guidance for supporting children’s self-esteem and developing a positive attitude to themselves and others. We have been friends for many years with Maryanne having considerable expertise as a SENCO and Deputy Head and Sue spending many years working as a private tutor and teacher, and hope eventually we can grow ‘Tutor Your Child’ to help many families nationally.
