In 2016, I began offering workshops in my studio, located just outside of Coggeshall and a few miles from Colchester. The converted barn provides a creative and supportive hub where I teach groups of up to twelve. Many of my structured textile workshops are taught across one or two days, but I do provide longer, design oriented textile courses and I mentor several groups on an ongoing basis. As my background is in creative textiles all the workshops I offer both in the studio and as a visiting tutor involve free motion embroidery with a design approach. More recently I have begun to take on other textile tutors and I now can offer a much larger range of textile courses including dressmaking, pattern cutting, felting, modern patchwork & Quilting as well as hand embroidery and decorative textiles. As well as textiles I have expanded the workshop itinerary and now offer illustration, lino printing, fused glass and silver clay jewellery on a regular basis with local, fabulous tutors. I hope that regardless of what experience level you have, you will still find something to suit you. So whether you are a beginner or more advanced in your chosen craft, take a look at the full range of workshops available. If you are unsure as to whether you will be able fully participate in a class, then simply get in touch and I would be happy to advise on what is best for you to do. While the majority of the workshops available through this site are based at my studio, I do travel and teach regularly in other local venues and I am happy to go further a field. This allows me to reach more students and collaborate with others, which is something I love to do. I offer a range of structured one and two day workshops to beginners through to more experienced in machine embroidery. Leicester Fencing Club originated from a merger between Huncote FC and Granby Halls FC in June 1989. The club was then known as the Granby Hall FC until it was no longer possible to continue fencing at the venue. Both Steve Wright and Jim Amberton had gone to Alderman Newton school at what is now Leicester Grammar School, Peacock Lane. They approached the headmaster to see whether to have fencing again on the site. Allowing his pupils free coaching, the club moved venue to the school premises. As the Club grew in size it was decided that we would have to find a larger venue. The City of Leicester School in Evington (formally Leicester City Grammar School for Boys) already had a history of fencing there, so the club moved again in 1992 and due to the change of venue a new name was required. CLUB ‘X’ was suggested but was thrown out for being too silly and finally the Leicester Fencing Club emerged from the ashes. The Deputy Head Master of the School (Alan Rudge) supported the move and growth of the Club at the School. We continued fencing there for five years but again had to move this time due to security reasons. Another venue was sought and we approached Aylestone Leisure Centre. They accepted us with open arms and the rest has been, as they say, history. The club not only looks after Foil, the club’s main weapon, but now Sabre and Epee are coached. The club provides beginner groups for youth and adults which are structured to the British Fencing Association’s Achievement Awards Scheme, all provided by a well-trained and qualified coaching team. We also support our more experienced members with weekly sessions available for further education towards higher grades or simply a safe environment to have a bit of fun. Our sessions run on Tuesdays for Foil (and Epee where in demand) and Fridays for Sabre Cadets (under 18s). Both groups meet from 7pm until 9pm during term times and occasionally run during the half term breaks and summer holiday, dependent on availability of coaches. Heatherwood's Equestrian Academy is available for private & small group lessons or you may join us for one of our week-long summer day camps. The Academy teaches safety around horses, horse anatomy, proper grooming, feeding and housing, equipment use and learning to "tack up" a horse. Riding covers proper seat, leg and hand position as well as learning to walk, trot and canter using correct diagonals, leads and gait. Each rider will be assessed to determine the pace at which they will advance to the next level. Heatherwood's goal is not only to teach horsemanship to our students, but to foster a bond between the rider and horse in order to develop a sense of awareness and sensitivity to the special attributes of their relationship. Every animal and guest at Heatherwood is treated with respect and kindness. Children often gain self-confidence and independence in their abilities to care for themselves and our animal friends. Private & Small group lessons - Offered in eight week sessions consisting of a 1/2 hour session each week. Small groups consist of two riders. Riders should plan extra time both before & after each lesson to help groom & tack up their horse if able to do so. Heatherwood facilities offer indoor & outdoor riding arenas for year round instruction. We also take students on our riding trails. We welcome adult & child riders of all levels, from beginners to those ready to advance to jumping. Sheffield Jazz runs a Saturday Morning Workshop providing an opportunity for people who play an instrument or sing to learn about and explore the theory and practice of jazz improvisation in a supportive group environment. The Workshop is now in its 40th year! There are currently five groups running each Saturday morning which are loosely graded from beginners to more experienced, each under the guidance of a tutor who is a jazz musician with wide experience of playing and teaching. Twice a year a concert will be arranged where each group will perform material that has been worked on during the preceding sessions. Who’s it for? Sheffield Jazz Workshop is intended for adults but is open to under-18s with parental consent, provided they are able to participate and behave appropriately in the group. Individual instrument tuition is not provided – some basic ability on your chosen instrument is required. Some familiarity with music theory would be helpful but is not a requirement. Anyone interested in exploring jazz improvisation is welcome to join in. The best way to find out if it’s right for you is to give it a try, including just listening and observing without an instrument at first if you so wish. The Workshop does not own or provide any equipment so you need to bring your own gear. Keyboard players need to bring an electric keyboard as the rooms we use don’t have pianos. Guitarists and bass players will need to bring an amp. Vocalists will need a mic and an amp unless you have a very strong voice! Bear in mind you’ll probably be in a room with 6 – 10 saxophones or brass instruments and need enough amplification to be heard in that context. Everyone else bring your instrument (and a music stand plus pencil and paper). Where, when and how much? Joss Hughes is a self-taught mosaic artist working from her studio in a beautiful rural setting near Romsey, in Hampshire. When not working on commission, she creates mosaics for sale at local outlets or plans her next adult “Mosaic and Cake” workshop. She marvels at the natural creativity of children taking part in her “Make a Mosaic” parties or in after-school and holiday camp mosaic sessions. Mosaic creations in stained glass and mirror dominate her portfolio however, she also particularly enjoys working with beach-combed sea glass and driftwood. The latter are mainly sourced from her beloved South Cornwall. Other materials she occasionally uses include 'found' objects from the garden or beach, and the commercially available glass tiles and nuggets. After a crafty childhood Joss focused her mind to pursue a career in Paediatric Medicine. Six university years and a further seventeen, mainly working for NHS England, left little time or energy for creativity! Job rotations and RAF deployments (her husband) necessitated living at fourteen different addresses (in the UK and in Australia). Retrospectively she realises that the repetitive home-and-garden making was expressing a hidden natural creativity. Five years ago she made the life- changing decision to say 'goodbye' to Dr J Hughes, Neonatal Doctor, and to say 'hello' to Joss Hughes, mosaic artist. A birthday gift of a two day beginners’ course (Clare Goodall, Oxford) in 2009 had sown the seed of the addictive nature of mosaics. Following up on two chance sightings of the same incredible huge floating mosaic ball, she tracked down the artist and a second two day course (Sue Smith, Devon) in 2014 reignited Joss's passion and introduced her to the media of stained glass and mirror. There followed lots of trial and error at the kitchen table with glass shards flying everywhere before she finally produced a mosaic she felt able to show anyone! Slowly amassing the prerequisites of a basic studio she moved into her own working space and, in May 2017, she decided to officially launch her own business: Peacock Mosaics. In 2018 Joss attended a 5 day residential mosaic course at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation, learning from the fabulous Sonia King. The emphasis was on developing artistic expression. In 2019 Joss became the Editor (a voluntary role) for "GROUT", a thrice yearly publication by the British Association of Modern Mosaic for its members. This has been a superb networking and knowledge-boosting opportunity. She also attended the 2018 and 2019 BAMM Forums, in London and York respectively, furthering her contact with the UK mosaic community. She has had mosaics accepted for exhibition in Penzance, York and Andover during 2019. In 2020 Joss will attend a short course at the London School of Mosaic, with tutor Debra Collis, exploring further her preference for abstract design, and practicing colour studies and andamenti.

I began my running coaching journey in 1976 when I ran in my green flash:) but kept on coaching, attending courses and qualifications/badges throughout my life. I also hold a post-grad degree in Physical Ed, with my first degree in Theoretical physics and Astrophysics. I have practised yoga for 25 years (recently qualified to teach in 2018). I also work in Adult Education as an associate lecturer with the Open University. After 12 years as a coach I decided to further integrate and develop my own running programmes and coaching with a much stronger focus on yoga knowledge and practice (attending professional development workshops from Leslie Kaminoff (https://www.yogaanatomy.org/) and Gary Carter (https://www.naturalbodies.co.uk/), A.G Mohan ( https://www.svastha.net/) ). We are all different, creating personalised programmes that allow runners to feel more relaxed, have a greater understanding of how they move and how they can improve their running form without an increase of injury. I have coached over 2000 runners, with a very mixed profile. From National runners to starting out and broken 'lost mojo' runners, all ages from 12-80! Running with awareness, running with ease, running with relaxation and stillness will set the conditions to allow you to run quicker, pain free and have a deeper sense of 'in the moment' focus when running or walking. I focus on developing a more mindful and holistic approach to movement (using much yoga training), allowing runners to recognise 'if it is somewhere it is everywhere' and 'don't think it, feel it'. We explore 'changing our relationship with gravity' allowing us to feel more relaxed and encourage a lighter and better feeling with the ground. For the BODY, for the MIND, for the BREATH The yoga practice complements and integrates into the running coaching, I don't teach a 'little bit of running' and a 'little bit of yoga'. They two disciplines connect and I hope folk get a sense of the power of combining the two practices. I have helped many people, from beginners to cross country runners to triathletes. Whether you are just beginning a running program or training for a marathon, race, triathlon, or general all-round fitness the soulinmotion running and yoga approach is one that builds a healthy body, instead of breaking it down from misuse or overuse. The background of runners vary from15min 5K female runners, 1h 3min half marathon runners to clients who could barely run/walk. Ages have varied between 12 to 85. I have coached yogi's, cross fit, martial arts, ultra runners, Ironmen and women, clubs, private groups.....jog scotland groups appear a lot as do some sport England. My own science, maths and sports background (BSc(Hons) Physics and Astrophysics, PGCE in Sport and Mathematics together with years of coaching means I always approach any idea with a critical and clinical eye.
