Great Denham Primary School and Pre-School is situated at the heart of the Great Denham Community and conveniently situated for Bedford town and road links to the M1 and A1. Great Denham village is a new and growing community with facilities including a Nursery, Sainsbury's Local, independent retail outlets and The new Village Hall which opened in 2016. Our school opened in September 2012 with just 100 pupils, we have now grown to over 560 pupils in 2022! We are now a three-form entry primary school in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 and two form in Year 4,5 and 6. We also have a Nursery class for children from the September after their third birthday. When our pupils leave us at the end of Year 6 they transfer to one of many local secondary schools including Biddenham Secondary School and Lincroft Academy. Great Denham Primary School opened its doors for the first time in September 2012 with just over 100 children and 15 staff. In 2022 we now have over 580 children and 100 staff! The school had a 7 classroom extension in 2018 and we are now taking 90 children in each year group up to Year 4. Eventually, we will have 650 children with 3 classes in each year group. Many of the original staff remain at the school including the Headteacher and one of the Deputy Headteachers. Our Family Groups When children leave our early years they join one of our four family groups which they will remain in until they leave GDPS in Year 6. Each family group wears their own coloured polo shirt and there are regular opportunities throughout the term for children to learn, play and compete in their family group. Each family has a head boy and girl who are elected by the rest of their family. The head boys and girls are children from Year 6. The idea of having family groups came from wanting to create a small school feel within a large primary school. Each family has a Head of family (a member of the school leadership team). Our families have even written their own family songs which we sing regularly in assembly!

Hammersmith Community Gardens Association is a local environmental charity set up in 1984. We manage four community gardens in Hammersmith and Fulham. HCGA has a range of projects which include conservation training schemes, volunteer gardening sessions, health and wellbeing projects, environmental playschemes and environmental education in local schools. We assist local groups in the design, plan and management of their green spaces. We promote environmental sustainability within the borough and manage our sites to maximise biodiversity and encourage wildlife. To reflect the expansion of our working to neighbouring boroughs in 2016 the charity adopted the working name of Healthy Community Gardening Activities (HCGA) The gardens are used as an educational resource by local schools, a site for volunteer gardening groups and in the holidays there are environmental play activities. As well as creating space for people the sites have also been designed to encourage wildlife. We run the community food growing area in Normand Park and work with local ‘Friends of’ groups to manage and promote their sites. In Westminster we run weekly gardening sessions in Queens Park Gardens, Westbourne Park and Penfold Street Hub. We support the Fisherton growing project with regular gardening sessions as well as by providing plants. In Westminster and The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea we deliver short Adult Education courses around gardening and herbal activities as well as a programme of walks. HCGA has a team of school gardeners who deliver environmental education sessions in schools on a weekly basis in three boroughs. These include formal curriculum-linked activities as well as lunchtime and after school clubs. We can also guide groups on how to make their premises more environmentally friendly and give technical growing advice. Through the Grow Well project we work with local people across the Hammersmith and Fulham borough to provide therapeutic gardening sessions for people who need a bit of extra support hopefully leading to participation in our regular volunteering sessions. The Get Out There! project offers local unemployed or socially isolated people the opportunity to learn new skills in basic environmental management such as habitat conservation, tool use and wildlife identification. Participants get the opportunity to visit and work on a range of different habitats across London as well as local sites in Hammersmith and Fulham. We also run a Men in Sheds programme at Godolphin Gardens for socially-isolated men. Our Volunteers maintain our gardens and contribute hundreds of hours of their time each year. Many of them have physical or mental health problems which prevent them from working in paid employment. We also host around 20 companies each year on corporate volunteering work days. As well as completing several physical tasks the companies make a donation to HCGA which covers staff time and materials. This is extremely valuable to us as it then funds the upkeep of the gardens.

Jelly Legs provides both men and women with a welcoming, social, fun, non-competitive environment in which people of any fitness level, age, size or ability have the opportunity to run together to improve their health, fitness and confidence.  Jelly Legs was formed just over 6 years ago and now has over 250 members across it's three different locations in East Kent.  We are an affiliated club with England Athletics, with trained, qualified coaches and group leaders.  We have over 14 years worth of experience of leading groups in the local area, taking many a member from Couch to Intermediate level.   Running provides people with the opportunity to improve their health and fitness while at the same time getting out of their homes and into the fresh air, enjoying everything their local area has to offer. People who have joined the group have found it a life changing experience, either assisting them to become more toned, gain confidence, train for a specific event or PB, or just feel good about themselves again. We cater for: * Existing Runners - Both Improver and Intermediate runners welcome all year round * Beginners/Returners Courses - Courses held at various times throughout the year in each location * Improver Courses - Courses held at various times throughout the year in each location All of our members go on to achieve personal targets and goals, whether it’s Marathon, 10k, 5km fun run or a PB.  We all start as individuals that think we can’t do it, but with a bit of training and a lot of laughs along the way we get there in the end! Silverburn is the former estate of The Russell family who were owners of the Tullis Russell paper making business. The land was originally part of the Barony of Durie and was leased to Mr David Russell by Charles Maitland Christie of Durie in 1854. A dower house known as Corriemar was also built and a flax mill was established on the site. David Russell died in 1906. His son, (also named David) and who later became Sir David Russell was born at Silverburn in 1872 and in 1912 married and went to live in Aithernie House. He returned to Silverburn in 1929. Sir David had a great interest in trees and many were planted including some rare and unusual species which continue to thrive today. In 1973, Sir David Russell’s son, Dr/Major Russell (Head of Tullis Russell Papermakers) gifted the houses and grounds to Leven Town Council, but also stipulated through the National Trust for Scotland that the “subjects should remain forever as a quiet area used for the benefit of the public in general and the people of Leven in particular for nature trails, quiet parkland and organised camping”. In the mid to late 1980s, the former Kirkcaldy District Council undertook a Job Creation Programme to reinstate Silverburn House for use as a Residential Centre for groups to use such as scouts and guides; school parties, caravan rallies etc. A stand alone wing to the rear of the House was used by crafters to make and show their wares throughout the Summer and Christmas/New Year periods. Silverburn Park Between 1990 and 1999, an average of 20,000 + people per year visited Silverburn. Its main attraction was the former “Mini-Farm” which had on show a wide range of domestic and exotic animals, birds, reptiles and insects. However, following a Council policy decision in 2002, to cease operating Animal Centres across Fife there have been very few visitors to Silverburn, other than local people. Financial constraints have also led to year-on-year reductions in revenue expenditure with no meaningful capital investment in the Park. Over the years, various ideas have been proposed for Silverburn including the setting up of a Scottish Music/Arts and Craft Centre and redevelopment as a crematorium. None of these have come to fruition.

Welcome to Foxwood Academy and welcome to our website. Hopefully, you will find all of the information you need on our website but if you have any specific questions you can contact us directly at the Academy. We are a school for children and young people with SEND but also a school for parents and carers. We want to provide you with the support and help that you might need and hopefully this website is your first stop. The children, young people and staff at Foxwood are remarkable. We have just over 110 children and young people and approximately 60 staff. Our youngest children start at age 4 and our oldest leave us at the age of 18. All of our children and young people have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) and all of our children have difficulties with cognition and learning. About 75% of our children would be described as children and young people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC or sometimes called ASD) and others can be described as having Sensory and /or Physical needs. We have a very strong set of core values here at Foxwood that guide us in every decision and action that we take. We believe in: Education – That every child with a special educational need deserves the best possible education available provided by the best teachers in the best schools and Academies. Independence – That every child and young person is given the opportunity to be as independent as they possibly can be. Celebration – That the children and young people should be happy here and celebrate their part in our community. Learning for Life – That Foxwood is a stepping-stone to bright futures. Futures where young adults can be happy, healthy, independent, and play an active part in society.
