The Diocese of Bristol is the Church of England across Bristol, South Gloucester, North Wiltshire and Swindon. There are 30,000 people worshipping regularly in more than 200 churches, led by hundreds of clergy serving within seven deaneries. Around 15,000 children and young people attend our 72 church schools, while chaplains serve in institutions across our region. Our bishops lead and oversee the Church in the Diocese of Bristol. Rt Revd Vivienne Faull is the 56th Bishop of Bristol and was consecrated Bishop at a service at St Pauls Cathedral in July 2018. She was installed as the 56th Bishop of Bristol at Bristol Cathedral on 20 October 2018 and introduced as a Lord Spiritual at the House of Lords on 23 October. Rt Revd Dr Lee Rayfield, the Bishop of Swindon, supports the role of the Diocesan Bishop. He works across the diocese alongside his community leadership role in Swindon. We are shaping a new vision and set of priorities for the coming years in a 12-month process called Transforming Church. Together. We want to understand what we do well, what we can change for the better and how to create a positive way forward together. Between February and April 2021 we will be talking and listening to lots of different people, from both inside and outside the church. As part of the Church of England, we are participating in the Renewal and Reform Programme in a variety of ways.

Woodwork and design have been lifelong interests of mine. My introduction to woodwork was with my father in his workshop at home. I studied woodwork, together with metalwork with Ted Mills in Maidstone and had regular lessons from Chris Hoad our local village carpenter in Marden, Kent. Woodwork runs in the family, I inherited my great grandfather’s tools and the workbench – a number of which which I use. I draw inspiration from many sources: the Design Museum is a particular favourite, but skilled work is all around. Recently I took part in a ‘Build a Tiny House’ course at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Their commitment to sustainable living is particularly important for me.I attend courses, exhibitions and trade shows regularly to keep up with the latest trends and developments. I established WoodWorks in September 2016. Our approach is practical, and we put our clients’ priorities first – be they design, practicalilty, affordability, aesthetic or sustainability. Wood is a wonderful material, flexible, strong and incredibly versatile. Most things are possible. If you’ve got a project in mind and want to find out whether and how it will work, I’d be happy to talk it over with you. In September 2020 I established Woodworks Learn, the teaching arm of the business. This was long an ambition of mine, using my background in teaching, coaching and informal community learning. I find immense pleasure helping people to develop their skills and to complete projects.

We're asking your thoughts on draft neighbourhood plans for Twyford and Finchampstead, which will help to shape development in these parishes, until 23 November, 2022. Twyford and Finchampstead Parish Councils have been individually preparing these documents with input from their communities over the past few years. If they're adopted, they'll sit alongside our own policies to guide planning decisions in these areas. Before this can happen, each has to independently examined and then, as long as the examiner agrees, put to a referendum. Each neighbourhood plan proposes a vision for managing future growth within its parish, as well as policies which reflect the priorities of their communities. Your comments matter as they will show whether you and others in the area agree with these ideas. The examiner will scrutinise the plans based on national requirements and can recommend changes, so it's important that we know now whether you would like to see amendments. And this Christmas those concerns feel as real as ever. In the wake of Covid, and with the huge challenges of the cost-of-living crisis, young people across Devon are suffering from more mental health issues than ever before. “In the last three years, the likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50%. Now, five children in a classroom of 30 are likely to have a mental health problem.” The Children’s Society Meanwhile, schools have their purse strings tightened weekly. Access to the arts is often one of the first priorities to be cut in school, even while children are known to benefit from it now, as much as ever. “I had a parent nearly in tears the next morning, as she spoke about how much her child had loved it and how it had boosted her confidence.
