It happened that he shared the office at SHU with Dr Stephen May the author of McKenzie Text Books and a remarkable researcher, in a cloudy morning in the winter of 2006 at the Cafe area in Robert Winston Building of SHU ,Mahmoud has invited Dr May to visit Cairo-Egypt to present a short introductory workshop to the McKenzie concept. the rest is history. Hi, I’m Alison and I’m absolutely delighted to welcome you to Little Bees with Alison! Little Bees is founded and run by me, a mum of two and a primary school teacher of over 16 years, with a huge passion for Early Years Development. During my teaching career, I have specialised in and led Additional Learning Needs and Foundation Phase across the school. I was also identified as an ‘Outstanding Teacher’ and was one of only 8 teachers to be selected across SE Wales to particpate in an ‘Outstanding Teachers’ Programme. After a long battle with infertility, I finally achieved my dream of becoming a Mummy when Joseph was born in 2016. Three years later, we completed our family with Charlotte. I absolutely love teaching and have often thought about other ways I could use my skills whilst also having a positive impact on my local community. I had noticed firsthand the lack of groups for new parents in my local area and the idea of Little Bees started. Having experienced the impact massage had on my own little ones and our bonding, this was something I was excited to share with other new parents and carers. In 2019, I trained with Hands on Babies, the first UK baby massage and baby yoga training organisation to have received accreditation from the Royal College of Midwives for its courses. I enjoyed the massage course so much that upon gaining accreditation, I immediately set to work on completing the lovely yoga course! My mission with ‘Little Bees with Alison’ is to offer friendly and relaxing classes for all parents and carers in a supportive and non-competitive environment within their local community. As a new Mum, I was desperate to not only do lovely activities with my baby, but I was also keen to make new friends. This is exactly what I want to bring to my community with ‘Little Bees’. I completely understand the challenges new parents are going through and thought of supporting them brings me great joy. I am fully insured, DBS checked and have completed training to enable my classes to be ‘Covid-secure.’

I have worked at Harris Westminster since 2015 and this is truly a special school, with the most fantastic students and the most engaging and inspirational staff. My educational background is a little different to most of our students; I grew up in the United States while attending boarding school in Worcestershire, but I then went on to study Economics at UCL and have been based in London ever since. My own school journey is what drives my desire to work with students like ours. I teach maths and love maths- but didn't read it at university (it wasn't the cool option...!) It is our job as sixth form staff to help make sure our students make the best decisions for themselves around what they love, through sharing as much information we can and being sounding boards for their ambitions. At the heart of our school is the belief that, given the right opportunities, students from any background can succeed at the highest levels, both at university or apprenticeships and in their future careers. Our academic successes are clear, both in terms of outstanding A-Level results and post-18 destinations, and we are particularly proud of the achievement of those students from less advantaged backgrounds. 18 years ago I was encouraged by a friend to think about what motivates me and what i value the most, and then to look into this as a starting point for new work. I was very unhappy working in a human resources firm; however the training and presentation experience has been so valuable. I realised that it was very important to me to eat right and exercise, not only for how I looked, but for health reasons; varicose veins, under active thyroid and injured neck and hips. So I embarked on a couple of years studying part time whilst still working full time for the HR company. Alongside this I started to pick up some part time gym work to gain the experience of the health and fitness industry; and although a very important step in the right direction, I soon found out that gym life was only a season for me. It was very soon that i started to put my retail management experience and my training consultation experience to the test and embarked on setting up my own health and fitness business. The gym environment gave me the : 1. experience I needed 2. exposure to taking group sessions, i.e. classes 3. time to invest in further courses and qualifications Then i started hiring church/youthcentre halls and designing my own Fitness Pilates classes, offering to take healthy eating workshops in clients homes, and then in time 1 to 1 Personal Training. Wherever I was living, I found an audience who needed, not just wanted, my classes and personal support. I took a leap of faith and over the years have met so many people, helped them along their journey of health and fitness and seen results which bring a ray of hope... a new level of energy and of course inspire them to aspire to the next level in their journey. I am now about to embark on the next step of faith.... from wherever I am be able to support people with their health and fitness goals virtually and personally.
