Cybersalon is the trading name of Digital Liberties Limited for its UK-based collective and think-tank activities focusing on the process and effect of the digital revolution in industry, society and its emerging digital cultures. Its members and audiences include entrepreneurs, technologists, hackers, activists, government officials, business and community leaders, academics, artists, creatives, and designers. Originally founded in 1997, from 1999 to 2003 Cybersalon ran monthly events at the Institute of Contemporary Art. From 2003 to 2006 Cybersalon was housed at the Dana Centre at the British Science Museum. Cybersalon re-launched in 2013 at the Arts Catalyst in London, and was based at the DigitasLBi agency in Brick Lane, Shoreditch, in the heart of London’s Tech City before moving into its current home at NewSpeak House, Shoreditch. The size of the contributing, senior membership of Cybersalon varies year to year from a core team of a dozen to a management and logistics group of more than twenty. Cybersalon audience membership numbers in the hundreds. In addition to monthly meetings, Cybersalon curates real and virtual spaces for people involved in digital creativity to participate and feedback their knowledge, curiosity, and concern to the wider community through the running of workshops, presentations and special projects in research and education. The recent HyperHabitat series of events, projects, and presentations investigated the changing nature of our living environments. Besides other activities, the series included Cybersalon events, participation in the London Hackney Council’s “Hack-ney-thon: 24 Hours to Hack for Hackney”, and a study of data gathering for the retail industry which in turn led to presentations and workshops at the Hybrid Cities conference in Athens, Greece. In recent years Cybersalon has additionally contributed a Digital Citizenship Bill of Rights for debate in the British Parliament, presented member book launches on workplace surveillance and the results of research into the political use of social media.

Women face ongoing, multiple transitions as they navigate their intertwining family and professional worlds. In being able to truly connect with what we value most we are more able to be brave and be empowered to follow our own unique path to positive change. I have particularly enjoyed my recent work with the UK Armed Forces Spouses in a Personal Development programme I designed for them, as they are not only facing multiple transitions, but also have the added stresses which comes with having a serving spouse. Becoming a coach I hold both a Bachelor of Science Degree with honours (Monash University, Melbourne) and a Graduate Diploma of Environmental Management (Deakin University, Melbourne), I spent over a decade making a difference in the environmental sustainability field in both Australia and the UK. Empowering groups and individuals through facilitation, I made a natural transition to the coaching world, and undertook research into the impact of combining sound facilitation techniques with coaching. I use this very powerful combination to create bespoke group coaching and training programmes for my clients. These programmes alongside one to one coaching inspire my clients to reach their full potential in any direction they choose: career transition, creating space for their own wellbeing, focusing on family or pursuing lifelong goals. My depth of global experience across many sectors such as policy, strategic planning and on the ground action informs my already systemic way of thinking. Wide travels combined with expat experiences on three continents have nurtured my empathy and curiosity. I take every opportunity to be involved in projects that will make a real difference to people’s lives.

After leaving University I worked for a bakery company which is where my journey in Food Safety began: I went on a basic course where the trainer (an Environmental Health Officer) showed us an disturbing object which he had found in food, and told us various horror stories such as seeing rats in kitchens and about many other experience during his work. This is where the fascination began. Not a glamorous career for a young girl, looking down drains and climbing down to dirty cellars, but it provided plenty of tales to fascinate people at dinner parties! After a career change which resulted me spending 25 years as a government food inspector, I decided to hang up my badge and defect to the other side. Literally Game keeper tuned poacher or should I say head chef turned food critic? I wanted to help businesses obtain a good rating and allow them to not feel terrified when the inspector calls at their premises So I set up The Food Safety Company in 2015 and have successfully helped many businesses to obtain – and maintain – high food hygiene ratings. I have also enjoyed conducting accredited and bespoke training courses for clients, and creating bespoke food safety management systems for many businesses. To date I have a 100% success rate with clients wishing to obtain a 5 rating (if they follow my advice!). This include all types of business; from small cafes to large, prestigious wedding venues I would like to share this success with you. On a personal note, I consider myself to be a foodie: I like talking about food; cooking it; eating it and more importantly sharing it with friends and family. People often ask if I think about anything other than food. My answer is “very rarely”! I also like to visit food festivals and restaurants, trying to keep ahead of the current food trends and products, and I support Alice Charity Food Bank.
