London Writing School offers online writing workshops designed to offer some inspiration, make you think about the craft of writing and carve out some time in the day to get pen to paper.  Our paid courses allow you develop an idea at your own pace. Who are the workshops for? Perhaps you want to give writing a go but aren’t sure what will happen. Maybe you used to write and want to get back to it. Or you write, but would like more structured inspiration and a practice session. The sessions are designed so that you can make the most of them whatever stage you're at.  What do we do? We usually have a warm up exercise around the theme of the workshop, do a little bit free writing, and then there’s a chance to build a more structured scene that could go on to become a short story, or even spark an idea for a novel. If you are full of ideas we hope to bring them into sharper focus, if you’re feeling a bit creatively empty we aim to fill you up and get you going again.  Do we share work? In the free sessions we don’t read out work or share it with others. Come and experiment with no judgement. About the teacher I've been shortlisted for various awards and schemes including the BBC Writers’ Room, Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger, Theatre 503 seed commissions and the Launch Pad Manuscript Competition. I write in different forms. My work has been on stage in London, audio drama 'The Grove' has thousands of downloads and my novel 'A Company of Roses' is available on Amazon. I have an MA in Screenwriting and a PGCE from Goldsmiths University where my focus was on creativity.

Tariki Trust is a community of people who believe that our actions matter and our impact on others has consequences at many levels. Our spiritual and moral values are something which we live out, and that need to permeate all we do. They are not simply ideas or practices to be addressed in limited time slots during a busy day. Tariki Trust offers courses, training and retreats which centre on our shared interest in our living systems. These include training and events linked to ecotherapy, psychology, psychotherapy, environmentalism, spiritual care and other forms of engaged Buddhism. A UK registered Buddhist charity, Tariki Trust was founded in 2011 and has become an umbrella for a wide range of activities in these inter-related fields. Our non-sectarian outlook welcomes people from many backgrounds, some of whom are Buddhist, but many of whom are not, to share in building a vision of a more wholesome world, based on values of compassion, mutual support and care for our position as part of a greater system. Tariki Trust is a community of people who are interested in learning, ideas, creativity and social responsibility. We believe in practising through concern for others and engagement with life in all its forms. The name Tariki means 'other-power' in Japanese. Other-power is a fundamental concept in Pureland Buddhism and expresses our commitment to a collective, collaborative approach. It is also the basis for Other-Centred Approach, the model of psychotherapy which underpins many Tariki courses and events. The Other-Centred model is flexible, suggesting an attitude of engagement and encounter rather than of introspection and rigidity, and leading us to embrace many fields of involvement and cultural activities as well as the narrowly therapeutic. Many of Tariki Trust’s activities were run by an earlier organisation, established in 1996, and its course programmes have a history going back over several decades. Tariki Trust itself was established in 2011 in order to offer a dedicated space for these programmes and at this time the Ten Directions training programme in ecotherapy was also established. Tariki Trust is a UK Registered Charity Number 1149658. It has a board of trustees who oversee its work and ensure good practice. Tariki Trust does not have any salaried staff, but, rather, has teaching staff and others working on a sessional or occasional basis. This means that much of Tariki’s work in supporting courses and activities is done on a voluntary, dana basis. This book is an updated and expanded version of our popular “Interactive Computational Geometry - a taxonomic approach” ported from Mathematica to Python. It has some very useful extra material and greatly improved demonstrations and text. If you are not an experienced Mathematica programmer, you will find the Python code is much easier to undestand. In fact, when we made the port, we were delighted by just how simple and elegant the Python code turned out to be. We will no longer update the Mathematica version (although it will always remain available) and we consider “Interactive Computational Geometry in Python” to now be the definitive version of the text. Python is a great language for this sort of thing, and we hope and expect that moving to Python will make the book accessible to a much wider audience. We are very excited about this book! We have developed a complete process, including software, for creating long-form texts as interactive Jupyter notebooks and this book is the first result of our efforts. Nearing the end of his undergraduate degree at Oxford University, our Director, William Humphreys, reflected on the life-changing opportunities that had been afforded to him, and the countless avenues now open ahead of him, as a result of his time at Oxford. Affected profoundly by the transformational effect this place and this education had had on his life, he started discussions with his brother and Co-Director George about how these same opportunities and experiences might be offered to students looking to make decisions about their own futures. George and William opened the first ORA summer school in 2005, made up of 35 students, a number of whom are still in touch with us and each other today! That summer was full of academic energy and progress, friendship, cultural expansion, and fun! It became clear that the opportunity to use summer holidays to learn in an entirely different way from school was both exciting and inspiring to students from all over the world. Energised by the opportunity to bring something new to the world of education, our most popular courses were born and aptly named ‘New Perspectives’ and ‘Broadening Horizons’. We build and retain close relationships with our students and their parents, listening carefully to their experiences and ambitions. These relationships have become an important driver of our growth and we are always thrilled to hear from alumni about the paths they have taken and the successes they have enjoyed. By 2008, we were accredited by the British Council, had assembled a committed team of staff and teachers excited by this new philosophy, and were welcoming hundreds of students each year to Oxford to study a growing number of courses. From 2010 onwards, with students wanting to return to the programme but keen to see more of the world, we began programmes in Cambridge, and later St Andrews, London, and Yale. In 2017 we launched programmes for younger students, from age 8, as well as courses for students aged 19 and over, many of whom were former students wishing to continue their education with us. We have been awarded the BETA Award for Best Educational Product an astonishing five times, and have been proud recipients of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise three times. We have an extraordinary team of staff, all entirely committed to the transformational effect education has on a young life. These range from the counsellors on our campuses who guide students through each day and offer insights into university life, to the teachers who get to know our students well enough to introduce them to the precise topics and ideas that will inspire them, to the office staff who work with parents to ensure their children are happy, safe, and make the most of every opportunity presented to them in their time with us. Of course 2020 was not part of anyone’s plan. When it became clear in March that we would be unable to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of our international student body that summer, we were forced to suspend our programmes for the first time in our history. Disappointed but not disheartened, we decided to rise to the challenge and move our courses online, with the firm commitment to preserving the interactivity, the excitement and the academic rigour that characterises our summer programmes. We were blown away by the dedication of our teaching staff that summer, by the positivity and intelligence of our students, and by the enduring commitment to learning and aspiration. With this confirmation that the ORA philosophy thrives even in the face of such challenges, and with a firm commitment to innovation in a fast-changing world, we are extremely excited about the future.
