Dog Smarts

dog smarts

Chrissie at Dog Smarts will help you and your dog develop a better understanding, and communicate more effectively. This lays the foundation for a great relationship, and your bond will deepen. Through the training work that we do, you and your dog will have more confidence, knowledge and skills to work well together. Owning a dog will become a hugely rewarding experience – not a frustrating one. And they’ll feel just the same way about you! The UK dog training industry is currently unregulated. That means that anyone can give themselves the title of Dog Trainer. I am not that person! My name is Chrissie Hines and I have invested a lot of time and money gaining valuable practical experience and recognised professional qualifications. I studied for 1 year on an intensive in-person course with the Victoria Stilwell Academy, to ensure that I gained my dog certification from a reputable, accredited, forward thinking and established team of worldwide dog experts and enthusiasts. Along with my industry recognised qualifications I have worked with dogs since 2014, as Founder and Owner of Hampstead Housesitters and Hampstead Hounds Regions I cover I can work in person with dogs, puppies and owners across London. If you live outside this area I can assist with Zoom consultations. These work surprisingly well and the benefits include: Minimal distractions for you and your dog A recording of the session to keep for future reference A chance to access a certified dog trainer wherever you are in the world

Maire Curtis Lakeland Studio

Carlisle

Offering in person Embroidery and other needle craft courses and workshops in Cumbria.  Also available online. I learned to sew and embroider at a very young age, with skills passed down through generations of Irish Grandmothers.  These skills have been honed with training from some of the worlds' leading embroidery schools such as Hand and Lock and the Royal School of Needlework in London. With over 25 years of experience, I own and operate the Maire Curtis Lakeland Studio and accept bespoke commissions from all over the world for individuals and couture designers. Growing up and living in the stunning Cumbrian Lake District provides an endless source of inspiration and when I am not stitching or designing, I am to be found up to my elbows in dirt in the garden or drawing and painting. Whilst face to face workshops prove very popular, I am now offering courses and workshops online to a wider audience.  This also allows people to learn at their own pace in the comfort of their home. Now that our courses are hosted directly via the Cademy website, you have instant access to dip in and out as you choose any time you want. COURSE FEATURES All of our courses feature in depth tuition with professional hints and tips supported by images and videos.  You also have direct tutor support for six months from registration.  Contact information will be provided in the course notes. Sew Silly Lily

Cardross

I’m Sharon. I've been sewing and making stuff for as long as I can remember and went on to study Embroidered Textile design at Glasgow School of Art, but my interest in textiles goes way beyond stitch and I have a range of textiley skills which I bring to my work.  I always wanted to learn to crochet when I was wee but with no-one to teach me it took until 2011 when I decided I was just going to have to teach myself! I was too impatient to take it step by step so jumped straight in at the deep end and just had a go at all the things I really wanted to learn to make - flowers, fruit, vegetables, animals, Amigurumi; regardless of whether the pattern said they were for beginner, intermediate or expert! Within a month or 2 I was doing some simple designing and began selling crocheted goodies and patterns through my Etsy shop. I'm totally hooked! Making up for lost time I literally haven't put my crochet hook down as I continue to fine tune, develop skills and discover even more. My approach to teaching is pretty similar. Learning a new craft is all about repitition but that doesn't mean you have to make things just for the sake of it, or because someone says it's suitable for a beginner. I would encourage anyone thinking about taking up crochet or looking to develop their skills to choose things to make that appeal to you, why not challenge yourself and I'll do my best to help and encourage you along the way. I firmly believe that if you love what you're making, even if it's a little beyond your skill level, you're more likely to enjoy, learn and be inspired by the process. And the results are all the more rewarding, even if they're not always perfect. But if you prefer to build your skills from the basics up I do suggest what skill level classes are suitable for and how tricky they are on the fiddly diddly scale! Everything we make during a CAL is designed by me and patterns are written using US crochet terms. You can create the most amazing things with the most basic of stitches and that's what I try to highlight as a designer, but I don't always do things the easiest way; where necessary I prefer to show you slightly more advanced techniques and share tips that I think will help you achieve a better and neater finish to your projects; things I wish someone had been able to show me when I was learning.  Crochet-Alongs are held online via Zoom with patterns and access being sent the evening before. On the day I have an additional camera to give guests close up hand views as we're working. A Sew Silly Lily Crochet-Along is an amazing opportunity for me to share my passion for crochet and hopefully inspire you to find out more about this beautiful and versatile craft. And I'm always available to help beyond classes.  Sx

Restorative Thinking

restorative thinking

Restorative and relational practice is an emerging Social Science, adopted in multiple ways across the UK and beyond by Police and Crime Commissioners, Schools, Local Authorities, Health and Social Care Settings, Prison and Probation Services to address a wide variety of challenges, including: • Positive mental health and wellbeing • Organisational culture change • Staff retention and a reduction in sick leave • Improving attendance, attainment and behaviour in schools • Fostering inclusive residential environments and a reduction in re-offending In 2012, the Restorative Thinking team began delivering face to face training and coaching. In 2013 we also started to develop intervention programmes for a variety of settings and groups: prisons and probation services, schools, youth offending services, parents and carers. Our parenting programme won the CANparent Quality Mark in 2014 and our curriculum programme for primary schools won the Teach Primary Resources Award in 2019. In 2020 we began to develop e-Learning CPD, creating our own learning platform and an innovative blended learning offer for all our working partners, allowing organisations and individuals to access restorative and relational practice via: • e-Learning CPD • Consultation • Face to face training/coaching • Zoom/Teams training/coaching • Action Learning Sets • Supervisions • Guided self-study • Restorative Practice Intervention Programmes Restorative Thinking has a comprehensive offer for working with colleagues in the field of restorative and relational practice. We are able to tailor our provision with each working partner, based on strengths, needs, intended outcomes, budgets. Our team continuously strives to operate and co-operate differently and better – being purposeful about improving our own brand of restorative and relational practice, guided by our belief in (and growing evidence base of) positive outcomes for those we work with.
