Dharma-Zen Tai Chi Studio

Tai Chi can help improve the balance and help reduce the risk of falling. In comparison to other exercises, including weight training, stretching, endurance training, and balance training, Tai Chi was the most beneficial exercise, reducing falls … ( The Journal of the American Medical Association , May 3, 1995, Vol 273, No 17, pp 1341 – 1347). Danny Lai is from Taichung, Taiwan. There, he learned many different kinds of martial arts, including Tai Chi, Hsing-Yi, Ba Gua, Tae Kwon Do and Shaolin. Tai Chi Punch Although each style of Tai Chi Chuan has its peculiar features, the five styles of Tai Chi Chuan something in common, they are: With a calm mind the performer breathes naturally. In peace and ease the performer moves lightly, softly, slowly and equally. The performer moves harmoniously and in a balanced way. The performer moves like a circle–graceful and perfect. The motion is slow and steady and strong strength (yang) and weak strength (yin) can be used in motions mutually. Tai Chi Chuan has attracted attention internationally. It has special functions in promoting health and preventing illness. To help the performer to concentrate their mind and to make their motions coordinate with their breath, music can be played to accompany practice. Flow with the sound of the musical instruments. In following the rhythms of the music, practicing Tai Chi Chuan will relieve stress and benefit health. Crescent Kick (Shuang Pai Chiao) The name Tai Chi comes from the Taoist symbol the West calls yin (black) and yang (white). This Tai Chi symbol represents two balanced opposites: black and white, sky and earth, fire and water, masculine and feminine, moon and sun. Feminine is the black or yin. Masculine is light or yang. The yin side of Tai Chi is like yoga, moving meditation, or chi kung. The yang side is the martial art – the practical application of the movements – using your power. Most often the yang side of Tai Chi is not taught. The healing benefits without the martial application is the yin without the yang. Through the movements of Tai Chi, one can set the mind and body in balance. It is not easy to do. You want to make sure that for every movement in motion (yang) or at rest (yin) your body is moving together. Through Tai Chi training, you can learn more about yourself and you can feel calm and peaceful all the time. It is a kind of martial art, but it is a gentle martial art. It is not for attacking, but has powerful self-defense applications.

“I commissioned a very personal silver bracelet with copper inlay from Natalia. I work in extreme environments, so the design had to be tough. All I had was lots of ideas. Natalia was able to translate these into a solid design, which I loved. The finished piece just blew me away. The detail is incredible. It stood up to a lot of punishment from the elements and still looks amazing. About 6 months after I got my bracelet, I decided to add yet another element to it, but did not know if it would be possible. Natalia made it happen. The bracelet is just perfect. I cannot recommend her highly enough.” — JAMES, DORSET (OCTOBER 2018) “Whenever I need a bespoke piece made, I’ll always go to Natalia of Lightwave Jewellery as she really captures the idea beyond my expectations.” — GIA, HAMPSHIRE (FEBRUARY 2019) “Natalia has created two beautiful pieces for me. I wear a lot of jewellery and I wanted something that can both be worn alongside other jewellery or stand alone. I wanted both pieces to be personal but subtle and Natalia did this perfectly. She listened to everything I said and helped me to settle on a design that I wanted. I now have a stunning silver bangle that is engraved with a Sanskrit chant that I use during my yoga teaching and a set of earrings that perfectly match a tattoo that I have. The earrings are a set of four to show the different phases of the moon and I love that I can wear all four together or just a pair. Natalia perfectly matched the dotwork of my tattoo onto the earrings and used a technique to add shading to them, a complete contrast to what she achieved with my bangle. Natalia gave me a fast and professional service and I would definitely use her services again.” — HANNAH, HAMPSHIRE (JANUARY 2019) “The dark wings earrings from Lightwave Jewellery were a Christmas present and I simply love the creative and detailed design. I love that they go with any outfit...casual with a leather jacket or even for a black-tie do!” — SOPHIA, LONDON (DECEMBER 2018) “I am in love with my silver Scottie dog and wear it every single day. It is too wonderful for words: it has movement and its proportions are exactly rights. I know this because I am a long term Scottie owner. I am constantly being stopped and told how wonderful it is both in this country and abroad. I feel very special because of it and more than highly recommend a silver piece made by Natalia.” — ELAINE, HAMPSHIRE (NOVEMBER 2018)

The idea for this site came as my sister and I were practically passed out after an amazing massage at Rituels d’Orient in Barcelona in 2010, and it was the first step down a path of exploring my passions and sharing them with others. I just thought, wouldn’t it be great if you could offer this holiday to everyone; a safe, easy, affordable spa and hotel break – the kind that you could take your mum on and know that she would enjoy it. I hope that this website can do for travel what Gok Wan has done for fashion • Help you to find a good quality, affordable break somewhere new and exciting, that will replace the same old panic buys • Give you a designer spa holiday experience for a budget holiday price As much as I love looking through holiday sites on the internet, sometimes the amount of choice just gets too much – and then I find myself on Tripadvisor trying to figure out which of the rave reviews are made up and which of the nasty ones are just people who were having a bad day. I aim to only recommend one affordable hotel, spa, sight, top restaurant, everyday restaurant, and shopping tip in each location, so you can easily create your break with no need to search through all the travel websites or experience Jellyfish. London is the exception, but even here, in my home town, I will only recommend the exceptional (and that includes exceptional value.) In October 2009 I had 2 weeks holiday from work. I would have loved to have booked something but I was so burnt out and confused by all the choice that I gave up. I had a nice time – I spent time with my family, went to IMBS for a massage, took up yoga again, did lots of DIY, visited the Cotswolds and even surfed at East Wittering, but I also decided to never let myself get that run down again. So amongst the great spa and hotel breaks that I’ll be sharing here are also ideas for escapes that take a few minutes, hours or just a day, everyday escapes that you can indulge in, if you just can’t face the idea of packing a bag or getting on a plane. We all love to get away, but as the person who gets asked to sort out the travel details, by boyfriends, family and even my work colleagues (who are desperate for me to organise a trip to my favourite Moroccan spa) I also know how great it would be sometimes to just find a value for money holiday at the click of a button – and I hope you’ll find it here! And I hope you will tell me if there are things you want that aren’t here yet, and what you think of these escapes.

Health problems, early contact with alternative medicine, martial arts, Eastern philosophies, spirituality and meditation and the early discovery of the healing abilities of my hands made me start training as a naturopath at the age of twenty. After successfully completing the alternative practitioner exam and numerous further training courses, I initially worked as a sales manager and trainer at an international wellness company. My inner call guided me to really live my calling as a naturopath, therapist and teacher. This is how the idea for the Institute for Health and Consciousness was born. I have been practicing meditation, qi gong, yoga and ways of conscious living for more than twenty-five years. As an expert in alternative medicine and energy work, I am always researching and teaching what I am from the bottom of my heart. Workplace Wellbeing Challenge

workplace wellbeing challenge

England

Hannah entered the field of wellbeing by default after having her own personal experience of hitting ‘rock bottom’. She had spent 9 years being owner/operator of a couple of NZ’s top hospitality businesses, during which time she worked extremely hard and at times played pretty hard too. Hannah burnt out as did her relationship with her partner, who was also her business partner. It didn’t end well, she lost everything – businesses, income, house, relationship and experienced anxiety and depression for a period of time as a single Mum with two very young children. For Hannah, she only had one choice and that was to change the way she thought. Learning how the body worked in relation to the mind and how to activate primal resources we all have inside ourselves was what lead Hannah to start the first holistic workplace wellbeing company in New Zealand so she could inspire, motivate and share tools to support others. Along the way Hannah trained with leaders in their fields when it came to studying mind/body exercise, the importance of the breath, our hormones (the feel good and stress ones) and that the simple and powerful choices we can make. She has trained with Wim Hof, founder of the Wim Hof Method, Dr Kataria, founder of Laughter Yoga and Nic Marks, founder of the Five Ways to Wellbeing. After reconnecting with Hannah in 2017, there was a real synergy in the direction Jo was going with a high focus on personal coaching which frequently turned into wellbeing type conversations. She introduced Hannah to HBDI and she was hooked! Together they developed a Whole Brain Wellbeing plan and workshops to match. It was very clear that taking a whole brain approach to developing workshops and wellbeing itself, would ensure that everyone is accounted for. One size doesn’t fit all for learning or wellbeing. By understanding thinking preferences and taking a whole brain approach: varying initiatives and content would appeal to everyone, no matter who they are strategies and programmes would engage more people people would learn how to communicate better, how to understand their colleagues and how to feel more empathy and respect for each other Their varying skills led them to go into business together and very quickly they developed The Wellbeing Challenge web app based on the Five Ways to Wellbeing which has had great results. A wellbeing platform, Your Wellbeing Matters is to be launched in 2020. Her business partner, Jo Fife, entered the business a number of years later when the two of them re-connected after many years and started having a conversation about a neurometric measuring tool Jo had been using for many years, which is based on how people prefer to think (not their skills and capabilities). The Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) is a holistic tool based on neuroscience.
