It was great to have the opportunity to learn some new techniques and to gain more awareness of how I present myself. The most immediately applicable uses have been in reducing my “ums” and “ahs” and in trying to come to my point in a more succinct way. I’ve been cultivating this awareness in one-on-one settings; meetings and individual conversations. Christina Vargas

ONE SPACE LEFT! 4th October Hannah Weatherill #Agent121. Looking for: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Hannah joined Watson, Little in 2024 after four years as an agent at Northbank Talent Management and a year at Penguin Random House UK. She’s building a varied list of commercial and upmarket fiction and non-fiction, and authors she’s represented have been listed for prizes including the Women’s Prize, the British Book Awards, the Jhalak Prize, the Comedy Women in Print Prize and the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Comic Fiction. She’s always looking for excellent writing which marries a strong voice with a catchy concept and a compelling plot, but more specifically, in fiction, she loves to represent: Crime and thriller novels with a confident voice, a clear hook and a fresh approach – especially if it says something about the world we live in today. She recently enjoyed the structure of Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister, the fun voice and family dynamics of My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite and the holiday setting of Murder on Lake Garda by Tom Hindle. Love stories, whether that’s a smart romcom like Book Lovers by Emily Henry or Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld, an intimate coming-of-age love story like Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson or a big, weepy epic. General contemporary fiction about complicated people, families and lives, often when there’s a mystery at its heart. Some of her recent favourites include Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisey, I’m Sorry You Feel That Way by Rebecca Wait, and All My Mothers by Joanna Cannon. She also takes on a small amount of historical fiction, generally set in the 19th and 20th centuries – so she’s not the best fit for books set much further back in time or myth retellings. She’s also looking for non-fiction with a strong voice and new insight into an experience or place, and am particularly interested in self-help, lifestyle and wellbeing, science, psychology, nature writing, memoir, and new ways into genres such as true crime, history or the environment. Over the years, I’ve loved The Salt Path by Raynor Winn, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, The Five by Hallie Rubenhold and Manifest by Roxie Nafousi. She’s not the right agent for sci-fi, fantasy or action thrillers, and I’m currently not accepting children’s and YA novels, scripts or poetry. Hannah would like you to submit your fiction as a covering letter, 1-2 page synopsis and the first 5,000 words of your manuscript in a single word document.  For non-fiction, she would like to see:- 1-page synopsis – to give an overview of what the book will offer the reader and how it's different from other books out there on this topic A detailed proposed contents list, including proposed sub-section headings as well as chapter headings – to give a sense of the overall reader journey (this is not included in the word count) (In addition to the paid sessions, Hannah is kindly offering one free session for low income/underrepresented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print).  By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event. You also agree to email your material in one document to reach I Am In Print by the stated submission deadline and note that I Am In Print take no responsibility for the advice received during your agent meeting. The submission deadline is: Friday 27 September 2024

London Writing School

london writing school

London Writing School offers online writing workshops designed to offer some inspiration, make you think about the craft of writing and carve out some time in the day to get pen to paper.  Our paid courses allow you develop an idea at your own pace. Who are the workshops for? Perhaps you want to give writing a go but aren’t sure what will happen. Maybe you used to write and want to get back to it. Or you write, but would like more structured inspiration and a practice session. The sessions are designed so that you can make the most of them whatever stage you're at.  What do we do? We usually have a warm up exercise around the theme of the workshop, do a little bit free writing, and then there’s a chance to build a more structured scene that could go on to become a short story, or even spark an idea for a novel. If you are full of ideas we hope to bring them into sharper focus, if you’re feeling a bit creatively empty we aim to fill you up and get you going again.  Do we share work? In the free sessions we don’t read out work or share it with others. Come and experiment with no judgement. About the teacher I've been shortlisted for various awards and schemes including the BBC Writers’ Room, Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger, Theatre 503 seed commissions and the Launch Pad Manuscript Competition. I write in different forms. My work has been on stage in London, audio drama 'The Grove' has thousands of downloads and my novel 'A Company of Roses' is available on Amazon. I have an MA in Screenwriting and a PGCE from Goldsmiths University where my focus was on creativity.

Creative Writing Mentoring & Creativity Coaching for Writers

creative writing mentoring & creativity coaching for writers

Our programmes offer individual and group coaching sessions for writers who are facing blocks, bumps, or other challenges in their writing process. The coaching aims to help writers regain their passion for writing, build confidence, and develop new writing techniques. The programme provides accountability and support for writers, helping them to overcome obstacles and reach their writing goals. The coaching sessions begin with an evaluation questionnaire to tailor the group to the writer's specific needs. * Tailored coaching: Evaluation questionnaire to address specific needs. * Overcome obstacles: Collaborative solutions for writing blocks. * Rekindle passion: Maintain drive and passion for writing. * Develop skills: Opportunity to improve writing techniques and skills. * Comprehensive support: Accountability, compassion, and a listening ear throughout writing project. As humans we have an innate connection to the natural world. This connection is tied up with the deepest part of ourselves, our unconscious. The part of our self that is both illusive and difficult to define but that is bound up with our emotional and physical make up. It is also bound to the creative part of us, it’s where our ideas come from. It’s curious, then, why writers don’t talk more about their connection to nature and the natural world. It is curious because ignoring this part of our creative makeup makes the writing process all the more difficult. Not just the writing process, but the writing life and making meaning with our words. Maybe it’s time to consider a change. Get away from your daily routine, or even your surroundings, and discover a way to Reimagine, Refresh and Reboot. “Highly recommend the course for opening up fixed writing patterns and limiting thought processes, to inspire a more enjoyable writing process and make your writing richer so it is ultimately more successful” Liz Web, Author of The Daughter As a new or struggling writer, how do you know it’s time for a helping hand? Here are my reasons why you’d want to do this for yourself, your writing process and your writing life and the benefits that come with investing in The Write Wild Method: GETTING UNSTUCK YOU - Are you stuck in the middle of things? Or stuck, unable to begin? The Write Wild Method will help you gain a fresh perspective, find new ideas and insights and ultimately get you started, or unstuck so you make it to the finishing line of your writing project. WRITE COMPELLING PROSE YOUR WRITER’S VOICE – are you struggling with making meaning with your writing? Does it feel flat, unexciting, are you wondering why anyone would want to read anything you write? Would you benefit from a method that will give you the confidence to find and develop your authentic voice so you can write the words you mean to write? BATTLING WITH FEAR AND ANXIETY YOUR WRITING LIFE – did you know that the more anxious you get the less creative you can be? This is a fact, anxiety swamps the part of your brain that is responsible for creating. Anxiety kills creativity flat. There are simple techniques within The Write Wild Method that will reduce your level of anxiety so that you can begin creating, the more practice you get with these techniques, the more creative you will be able to become and the better your writing life will be. GOALESS OR DIRECTIONLESS YOUR WRITING PROCESS – are you confused about what direction you should be taking? Uncertain about which writing project you should be tackling? Do you have a clear idea but are unable to make that idea materialize? How you begin and keep going to the finish is not always about how committed you are to any one project. It can be that you have no clear direction about what the project demands or what you want from the project. The benefit of developing a writing process that works for is that you will get from start to finish in a way that satisfies your project, yourself and your reader. Within the Write Wild Method you will be able to identify what works and what doesn’t work in terms of process and get practice in making your writing process the thing that gets you reaching your goals.
