Using my expert network of local traders and craftsman, I am able to source unique vintage and antique treasures; carefully restoring, reinventing or upcycling my finds to create covetable one-off pieces that will bring your space to life and transform how you see it. It gives me huge pleasure to cultivate beauty where it has been overlooked; and to help the environment by preventing unnecessary landfill in the process.

Driven by a desire to create texture and engage the senses, my work reflects my interest in haptic perception: - our instinct to touch and the importance of touch to the human experience. Taking an experimental approach to the ancient craft of felt making, I explore material combinations and processes, to celebrate tactility. Investigating the relationship between actual and perceived textures, translucency and opacity, I create functional objects with surfaces that invite physical interaction with the materials and challenge the perception of felt.

Hi, I'm Stephie (not Fred), An embroidery artist and creative based in Manchester. I'm inspired by the natural and the man(chester) made, and passionate about encouraging others to explore and express their creativity. I LOVE running workshops and sharing the joy of stitching and creating with others. I want people to leave a Hoop & Fred workshop feeling better than when they walked in and empowered to create. Maybe they’ll fall head over heels with embroidery as I did, or perhaps they will simply feel better for having spent a couple of hours trying their hand at something arty and leave feeling confident enough to try other new things.  All my workshops are suitable for beginners. I  ensure everyone gets the time they need to ask questions, and they leave with all the materials and knowledge required to finish their project at home.

2024 WORKSHOP PROGRAMME UPCOMING WORKSHOPS & ACTIVITIES Each year we run a series of workshops that are open to members of the group. Most of these require booking in advance and have extra costs associated to cover things such as tutors and materials. Participation in workshops is optional. If you’re interested in taking part in any of these please speak to Jenny R at the next meeting. (Non members can book places through Facebook/Eventbrite. Workshops are added to Facebook/Eventbrite during the year as details and publicity are confirmed) JANUARY 2024 – OPEN DAY Demonstrations of weaving and spinning, giant knitting needles, items for sale and tea and cake.  Open to all. FEBRUARY 2024 – AGM No booking required. Usual AGM things – review of group finances, voting in officers, etc. Also, of course, crafting and nattering!  MARCH 2024 – CROCHET HEXAGON CARDIGAN We will be learning how to make a Hexagon cardigan in crochet.   Booking required. Non Member cost £15 APRIL 2024 – STEEKING WITH FIONA MORRIS  We will be learning how to “steek”.  We will make a “mug hug” which is knitted in the round and then cut (“steeked”) to make a space for the handle Booking required.  Non Member cost £30 MAY 2024 – BEADING ON CANVAS WITH ELIZA MCCELLAND We will make a sampler of different beading techniques  Booking required. I am a practising and exhibiting textile artist who makes work focussing on memory, identity, loss and absence, using a variety of mixed media techniques alongside adapting traditional patchwork and embroidery processes for contemporary work. I have also been teaching textiles for many years, and enjoy developing the design aspect of projects with students, as well as teaching the more practical stitching and colouring skills. I have delivered City & Guilds to Diploma (the old Part 2) level in both Embroidery and Patchwork & Quilting. 2015 saw me complete my Masters with Distinction as well as having a gallery at Festival of Quilts. Then in 2016 I was part of the very successful unFOLD exhibition at the Knitting & Stitching Shows at Alexandra Palace and Harrogate International Centre. We repeated that experience with The Button Box exhibition at Festival of Quilts 2018. In 2019 I successfully entered work into the Vlieseline Fine Arts Textile Award at FOQ and then worked with unFOLD members to produce a group piece which was accepted into the Janome Fine Art Textiles Award in 2021. The Covid pandemic and lockdown saw me presenting one of the Community Stitch challenges for TextileArtist.org online, to 18,000 members of the community. This was a very exciting opportunity which coincided with the development of my new online courses. With a few external teaching commitments left for 2022, I have decided to concentrate on courses in Eastbourne for 2023 to enable me to get more stitching done. So if you want to work with me on one of my courses, you will need to book a Studio 11 course, or an online course.

The process of being creative & the appreciation of creativity in others is, in my opinion, one of life’s great joys. I have been interested in Art of various types for as long as I can remember, and have inherited a passion for making things. My work is mainly in textiles & mixed media, focusing on line & texture." Deb Cooper is a mixed media textile artist and maker from the Northeast of England. Drawn to natural forms, & the beautiful way nature and time ages things. Line, flow & texture, always return as the main themes within her work. Considering the impact of waste and over production Deb regularly uses recycled fibres, found objects and vintage textiles to extend their use. Many of the repurposed fibres have also been dyed with plant materials and rusty objects, often found, or grown on her allotment giving her work a subtle colour pallet. Deb is a proud member of the Society for Embroidered Works (S.E.W.) who promote that “Stitched Art is Art”.
