Che, founder of Young Parent Talks, is a young mum from Birmingham who has been sharing her story in schools, colleges and youth clubs for almost 4 years. After her life was disrupted by teenage pregnancy and an intense abusive relationship, Che was left with very little ambition and aim in life. She ended up having a baby at 19 thinking this would be 'the easy option'. She had a reality check when she realised it wasn't as easy as she'd thought and really struggled to step up to the responsibility of having a child. After working hard to get her life together whilst also raising her child, she started working for charity, Straight Talking. This is where Che found her passion, teaching young people the realities of being a young parent. In 2022, Che set up 'Young Parent Talks', delivering sessions and assembly's in school's, teaching pupils what it really means to become a teenage parent and how it changes your life, by sharing her story. My name is Carmela, I am Italian and I hold a full English teaching qualification in Post Compulsory Education and Training (Cert.Ed.)and a Qualified Teaching and Learning Status (QTLS).I also have a BA degree in Post Compulsory Education and Training from Warwick University. I have been teaching Italian for over ten years privately and for colleges. I have taught Italian at the Brasshouse language centre in Birmingham, at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and South Staffordshire College as well as delivering training for companies such as EXD Ltd. in Coventry, Arlani in Burton, Redrock in Birmingham and for private groups, reaching areas in the West Midlands, from Birmingham to Coventry, Warwick to Lichfield and Solihull. ITALIAN LANGUAGE CULTURE AND COOKING WORKSHOPS- ABOUT ME I grew up in a small village in a traditional Neapolitan family where we prepared local and classical Italian dishes, growing and preserving most of the food we ate. Preparing pasta or gnocchi for our Sunday lunch was a family get together event! We all helped and learned how to make things in a traditional way. During the major festivities such as Christmas and Easter the food preparation took weeks and families and friends exchanged their creations: Struffoli, Panettone and Pandoro at Christmas; Pastiera, Tortano or Casatiello at Easter; for Carnival we made Chiacchiere, and for father’s days Zeppole. There were times when we all went to zia’s house to cook pizza and bread in her stone oven… every occasion was special and gave us an excuse to prepare a traditional dish. Therefore, my love for the food and food preparation grew thanks to the area I was born and my family’s customs. When later I travelled as a student, I exchanged recipes with other people and grandmas from Sicily, Puglia and Tuscany. Therefore, the Italian cooking workshop is an opportunity for me to share with you, in my kitchen, what I have learned, and recreate together an authentic Italian experience.

We offer the highest grade of musical education, from teaching staff who are not only talented musicians in their own right, but also trained to teach, regularly monitored and who undergo ongoing professional development training at Yamaha HQ. We provide each student with a one hour, group lesson on the instrument of choice, once per week for 44 weeks of the year, or provide students learning individually with a half hour lesson, once per week/fortnight for 44/22 weeks of the year. We ensure that all our staff have enhanced DBS (CRB) clearance. Certification is available to view outside our studios. We offer an optional, accredited examination syllabus, with examinations taking place on site 2/3 times per annum. We facilitate learning with state of the art instruments in clean, comfortable, designated studios. We encourage every student with merits for practice and Certificates and Prizes for collecting merits. We offer a clean, comfortable waiting room for students and parents alike. We offer eight weeks holiday every year and display a full school calendar on our website, as well as in school. We provide, by email, lesson notes to any student who is unable to attend his/her usual class, for whatever reason. We have built an amazing resource for our students using an online learning portal. This means that if you were to miss a lesson it will be available to watch and practice with on catch-up as we stream every single lesson (live) to the portal. That means you can practice all year round and should you be unable to make it to the school for the time of your lesson, you can simply dial in from home!
