Liverpool Hope University pursues a path of excellence in scholarship and collegial life without reservation or hesitation. The University’s distinctive philosophy is to ‘educate in the round’ – mind, body and spirit – in the quest for Truth, Beauty and Goodness. Liverpool Hope University is distinctive in that it is the only university foundation in Europe (and the USA) where Catholic and Anglican colleges have come together to form an integrated, ecumenical, Christian foundation. It has happened in Liverpool and nowhere else in Europe largely because of the presence in the 1980s of two remarkable church leaders: Bishop David Sheppard, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, and Archbishop Derek Worlock, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese that extends from Liverpool across the north of England. They confessed their faith to each other and took their congregations to visit each other’s cathedrals, a symbolic act of Christians working together in the context of northern Irish religious sectarianism. When the three colleges (St Katharine’s 1844, Notre Dame College 1856 and Christ’s College 1964) came together the name ‘Hope’ was adopted came from Hope Street that links both cathedrals - a living parable of what can happen when Christians unite and work together for the common good. This year we celebrate 175 years since the founding of our first college in 1844; in that year there were only six universities in England (two of them medieval) but all of them did not admit women, Catholics or Jews. The founding colleges of Liverpool Hope University were among the first few institutions to begin opening up higher education to the vast majority of England’s population. The Anglican Bishops of Liverpool, going back to the founding Bishop, Bishop Ryle, were all evangelicals. The friendship of the Anglican Bishop and the Catholic Archbishop was largely based on both their sharing of a mutual faith and their commitment to the poor. This adherence to historic Christian faith remains the university’s own commitment as it seeks to live out that faith in its life and work in a secularised British academy. At the beginning of each academic term we hold a Foundation Service to restate our foundational mission and values. Our Graduation ceremonies are held in alternating years in both the Anglican and Catholic Cathedrals in Liverpool.The new name of Liverpool Hope University was chosen to represent the ecumenical mission of the Institution. Liverpool Hope University was born in July 2005, when the Privy Council bestowed the right to use the University title. Research Degree Awarding Powers were granted by the Privy Council in 2009.

My Pilates journey started after I was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine) as a teenager and underwent several operations to fuse a large part of my spine with rods. I was introduced to Pilates by my Physio and it became part of my early rehab - which then developed into a love for Pilates in my adult life. Pilates, on the mat and using the apparatus, has had a huge impact on my physical and mental wellbeing. To such an extent that it led me to want to help others experience Positive Movement Every Day. I work with my clients, largely on a one to one basis, identifying their needs and developing a personal movement programme whether that be for rehab, athletic training or general well being. We use the suite of Pilates apparatus (reformer, tower, chair) as well as the mat and smaller equipment (eg spine corrector, blocks and balls). If you are hoping that Pilates will help with your pain management, I can provide information on how it has helped me over the years. I have true empathy with all chronic pain sufferers and my goal is, over time, to help you improve your quality of life. I have lived in and around South Woodford for most of my life and love that my job enables me to meet and help other local people. I am a mum to two children, plus our newest addition - a puppy. They all keep me very busy and active, something that would have been a daily struggle without Pilates in my life. MY TRAINING I completed my comprehensive (mat and apparatus) Pilates training with Polestar Pilates. I am a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher and a member of the Pilates Teachers Association. I have my Level 3 in Pre and Post Natal Training, which qualifies me to teach Pilates safely to mums at a time when their bodies and minds are experiencing great change, and I am trained to teach Pilates to children (I have an enhanced DBS). We bring hoop to your events and parties, whether it be a hen party, or a black tie event. RoRo is a performer and a qualified teacher who has over 10 years teaching practise and a whole load of hoop experience. Originally self-taught, she now teaches at schools, circus schools, and conventions, as well as running weekly classes, and workshops. We travel often and have teachers all over the UK so no gig, workshop or class is too big or too small. We have esteemed performers nationwide who can provide entertainment and workshops for large-scale events with specialisms in hula hoop, fire, LED and aerial. Our School of Circus sessions provide workshop packages and sessions with an attention on being different from the norm, we have circus, dance, and a whole lot more. Many young people do not experience any aspect of circus as prop for performance or as a physical activity and it is our intention to address this whilst offering something different to the conventional norm. As a performer we show case single and multi hoop tricks, blending circus, dance, and a whole load of pizazz. These can be done according to theme, with other performers (hoop or other), or with LED. Party packages (popular for hen & birthday parties) give you the opportunity to learn and see some impressive stuff, where guests can be entertained, whilst learning and having fun.
