Welcome to this website of the Northern Ireland Commission for Catholic Education which will act as a hub of information for Catholic education within Northern Ireland. As well as providing links to the schools within the Catholic Managed Sector in N.I. it will also link to other education partners. In addition, it will provide those interested in Catholic education with resources, guidance and policies to assist them in their work. It will also be a place of celebration for Catholic education and include examples of the Catholic ethos alive in our schools. Across Northern Ireland there are 489 Catholic schools serving the needs of 45.5% of the school population. Our schools, working with the parents as the primary educators of their children, strive to ensure that children and young people discover their uniqueness as individuals and develop their gifts and talents as full members of a faith community. Northern Ireland has experienced conflict. But our schools are not some sort of quaint relic from a divided past. They have shown themselves to be active contributors to reconciliation and the Common Good. The Academy of Creative Education (ACE), is a innovative, nationally recognized model high school for students at-risk of dropping out. Established with an innovative school grant from the Texas Education Agency and the Education Economic Policy Center, the Academy began its first classes on September 16, 1991. Since its doors opened in 1991, the Academy has successfully assisted over 5,100 students to graduate. The Academy is the collaborative result of a design team composed of educators and community representatives who envisioned a campus where challenged youth, ages 16-21, would have a unique environment in which to learn and where instructors would use innovative teaching models and teaching strategies.

It is with great pleasure and much pride that I welcome you to Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies website. We are proud to be two non-selective 11-18 schools based in Bournemouth and incredibly privileged to be part of the multi–Academy Trust, United Learning. Avonbourne Academies are also extremely fortunate to be part of the Bournemouth and Poole Cluster, where we work closely, and share good practice with Glenmoor and Winton Academies, Avonwood Primary School and The Cornerstone Academy. At Avonbourne Academies, we believe that every child matters and every lesson counts, and we believe in the importance of creating well - rounded citizens who achieve academic excellence. Avonbourne is a highly inclusive school that caters for the needs of all students. We ensure our most able students are stretched academically and students with special educational needs and disabilities are expertly supported, allowing the Academies to ensure the best in everyone. We were delighted to celebrate excellent GCSE and A level results in the Summer showing the huge improvement already achieved at the Academies. Avonbourne Boys' and Girls' Academies are two co - located schools that joined United Learning in 2019 with lessons being taught in a single - sex environment in Years 7-9, with opportunities for mixed sex teaching from Year 10 onwards . This has proved to be hugely successful with resources, staffing expertise and curriculum opportunities now being fully utilised for the benefit of all students at the Academies. Co-location has been seen by all stakeholders as offering the ‘best of both’, which I believe provides our students with the best possible chance of educational success. The school also hosts the United Sixth Form and provides teaching of the highest quality, excellent facilities, a caring and supportive environment, as well as delivering a comprehensive range of social and enrichment activities. As an organisation, we expect everyone to embrace our core REACH values of respect, equality, ambition, community, hard work & determination. Students can access a huge number of extra-curricular opportunities across the Academies, and I am hugely proud of our sports teams, creative performers and STEM enthusiasts. We have recently shifted our focus and expertise to specialise in helping outgoing UK students access international placements through the Turing Scheme. From the vocational sector, we send students, trainees, apprentices and recent graduates for specialised placements all around Europe from 2 weeks up to 6 months. The students in these mobility projects are connected with organisations from diverse and thriving sectors, such as tourism, hospitality, agriculture, textiles, marketing, communication, ICT, mechanic, engineering, automotive, aerospace, sustainability, and much much more!
