I am extremely proud to be Principal and CEO of such an innovative, high performing and caring college. After studying at the College over 90% of our students progress into work or higher education. Student behaviour and attitudes at the College are rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. This results in high levels of success in our wide range of qualifications as well as exceptional student skill development and medal achievements in local, regional, national, and international skills competitions. At the most recent WorldSkills UK national finals our College was the best performing College in England. Students won gold medals in creative media makeup, silver medals in digital media production and visual merchandising, and foundation level students won gold medals in catering health and social care, and motor vehicle skills. College students also won seven gold medals in the Welsh International Culinary Championship. The amazing commitment and high levels of expertise of our teaching and support staff over the last year has been recognised in nominations for a TES national award (for our distance and online learning team) and through two national Pearson award nominations for our beauty and holistic therapies teaching team and for one of our learning support mentors. We have also been awarded chartered status by the Chartered Institution for Further Education, the only organisation in the UK with royal assent to provide chartered status to FE providers. In the last three years, the College has opened two new world class campuses. The College-led MIRA Technology Institute (MTI) is located on the HORIBA MIRA Technology Park and is a learning partnership with HORIBA MIRA, Coventry, Leicester, and Loughborough Universities. Students and apprentices at this campus are building skills to support the disruptive technologies such as electrification and cyber security in the automotive industry. The College’s new Digital Skills Academy located on the Coventry University Technology Park represents part of our response to the fast-growing demand for digital skills in all industry sectors. Over the next year, we will be opening our Centre for Logistics Education and Research (CLEAR) at Magna Park, in partnership with Aston University and industry partner Wincanton. We will also be progressing our plans with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to move our award-winning restaurant and a new Digital Innovation Centre into Nuneaton town centre, and we will continue with the redevelopment of our Nuneaton campus into a 21st century digitally enable centre of teaching excellence.

Define Fine has been created by a small but committed team of parents and professionals who have lived experience of school attendance difficulties. As DEFINE FINE: Parent Peer Support for School Attendance Difficulties we support our members who are struggling with school attendance difficulties and parent carers from our wider SEND and mental health networks. We provide peer support using our tried and tested resources and to help parents advocate for the support their children and young people need to be able to learn and achieve. We hope to build up our growing network of peer supporters, who we can train to use our guides for their own family and ultimately to then help other families experiencing attendance difficulties. Our resources and training are also available for professionals in Education, Health and Social Care. Empowering parents to be able to effectively work with professionals, should encourage not only earlier intervention, with much better outcomes, but also reduce the risk and impact of unhelpful, and unnecessary attendance prosecutions and social services interventions. It is vital that children, young people and their families receive appropriate support, and especially in cases where professionals insist children are “fine in school, “ all are clear as to how fine is actually defined. For us “fine in school” would mean that children are safe, healthy, happy and their needs are acknowledged and supported to be able to access suitable education and learn.

National Back Exchange (referred to as “NBE”) is a non-profit membership association whose goal is to develop, disseminate and promote evidence-based best practice in all aspects of moving and handling and musculoskeletal health. It is run on a voluntary basis by a National Executive elected from the membership and administered from a central office in Gosforth, Newcastle. NBE’s vision for “Excellence in all aspects of moving and handling” is supported with aims to reflect the growing recognition and significance of its work. The association consults widely with other organisations / stakeholders having similar goals and actively contributes to national working parties and projects as well as supporting research and practice development. ‘Column’, the journal of NBE, provides a valuable means of communication and is supported by web-based members’ forums where topics can be freely discussed and advice sought. Since 1992 NBE has run a highly respected and successful 3 day residential conference in September for people with an interest in moving and handling. The membership of NBE includes professionals from a wide range of disciplines, including: Health and social care Therapies Education Health and safety Ergonomics Equipment manufacturing Industry The development of an Advanced Membership category (similar to a post graduate diploma) in 2006 has increased the professionalism and recognition of personnel engaged in this field. He has advised Public Health England and the Chair of the NHS Health and Social Care Digital service. Muir’s work focuses on providing training to healthcare professionals on value based healthcare. Sir Muir has worked for the National Health Service in England since 1972, occupying a variety of senior positions during that time, including serving as the Director of Research and Development for Anglia and Oxford Regional Health Authority, and first establishing and then being the Director of the UK National Screening Committee. He founded the National Library for Health, and was the Director of Clinical Knowledge, Process, and Safety for the NHS (England) National Programme for IT, serving as the Director of the National Knowledge Service. He was the first person to hold the post of Chief Knowledge Officer of the NHS (England), also serving as the co-Director of the Department of Health’s Quality Innovation Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) Right Care Programme. Together with Sir Iain Chalmers, Muir was instrumental in establishing the Cochrane Collaboration. Sir Muir is an internationally renowned authority on healthcare systems and has advised governments of several countries outside the UK including Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain and Germany and regularly delivers plenary sessions at international events, the most recent being the 2014 World Health Summit in Berlin, the Big Data in Pharma conference in London in 2015 and the 2015 Transplantation meeting at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Sir Muir is also a Professor in the Nuffield Department of Surgery at the University of Oxford. He received the CBE in 2000 and was knighted in 2005 for services to the National Health Service.
