Coming from a background in music and charity work, founder Jae Kaae started experimenting with ways in which music could be utilised to support those with chronic health conditions. After observing first-hand the uplifting effect music had on his grandfather while battling the confusion of dementia, Jae began consulting with musicians, therapists and healthcare professionals to create digital wellness products that could effectively support those in similar situations. When the Covid-19 pandemic brought the stressors of isolation, loneliness and uncertainty into every home in Britain, we worked tirelessly to support those who needed help maintaining their mental health. Throughout the lockdowns, Social Plugger provided music therapy listening sessions to help people cope with anxiety and insomnia, and to maintain their general personal wellbeing.

Abi’s background is in youth work and she has collaborated with a number of organisations to develop participatory approaches to working with vulnerable adolescents. She has worked with The International Centre: Researching Child Sexual Exploitation, Violence and Trafficking at the University of Bedfordshire, supporting specialist social care teams in Wigan and Rochdale to implement strengths and participatory approaches to Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). Abi co-wrote training for these teams with Dr Camille Warrington on behalf of Research in Practice. At the University of Bedfordshire, Abi also worked on the LEAP project (2015-17) with Dr Kate D'Arcy. Abi wrote training tools for young people and professionals across Europe, in order to respond to young people's experiences of sexual violence and to support efforts to prevent sexual violence. The three-day youth facilitator training programme is called “Life-skills, leadership and limitless potential" (LLLP). All these programmes provide knowledge and tools to apply participatory approaches to practice with young people.

Family Based Solutions formerly known as PAARS (parent abuse and reconciliation service) began as a result of three founders coming across parent abuse in their role as secondary school support workers. It was apparent that the issue did not fit the threshold for social care involvement and was not always dealt with by the police in a way that was useful. The founders decided that they wanted to try and support families so they started the charity. 2012 – NOW They began their work in February 2012 with little more than a determination to support families who had nowhere else to turn. When they started the project there were only five organisations across the UK providing any child to parent abuse intervention. The need for the service was unknown and the research and literature on the issue was very scarce, as most of the support and research came from the US and Australia.
