I live and work in Solihull and am married with two boys. I have an obsessive love of sewing, which has driven my career through a wide range of sewing related experiences. I came from a family of sewers and from a very early age was encouraged to be creative. My love of embroidery and needlework led me to pursue a career in teaching. I attended a specialist needlework and home economics teacher training College in Liverpool. I always enjoyed "hands on work" and gained experience working with an expert team of fitting and alteration seamstresses at an exclusive dress shop the summer I finished at Liverpool. I wanted a creative career, so I applied for the position of wardrobe assistant at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. This was a wonderful work experience, sewing fabulous fabrics and making a diverse range of costumes. The theatre wardrobe mistress encouraged me to continue studying and I enrolled for a City and Guilds course. Although theatre working hours were long, they were flexible and I could study and work full time. I achieved merit for City and Guilds Creative Studies; two years later I received a distinction in Fashion and Design and won the year prize. My qualifications and experience opened another career opportunity in the fashion industry. I wanted to work fewer hours and the job I was offered provided training in production planning and buying. Working regular hours I decided to think again about the teaching career I had abandoned. I was employed by Birmingham Adult Education Department to work in evenings teaching Embroidery and Needlework. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching, so when I married and the family arrived I gave up full time work in industry. I returned to college, updated my teaching qualifications and became a part time teacher In the early 90's I wrote the Tailoring Programme for the West Midlands Access Foundation, later used by Open College Network. By 1996 I was determined to offer my own courses, now known as Gill Arnold Dressmaking Training. In 1997 I became Sewing World magazine's pattern specialist. Over 20 years teaching has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge to produce articles on patterns and fitting. I have also written for Sew Today and American publications. With the support of the sewing industry I enjoy being a regular exhibitor at shows all over the country including the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. My yearly programme provides a full range of sewing events, exhibitions, seminars, cloth sales, trips and courses.

Our teaching techniques at MAKE are very holistic. All of our students design and make items that they want to create for their level of skill. From basic skirts, curtains, pillows, simple pencil cases through to ultimate fashionista jackets! With my younger teenage fashion students every project is more exciting as its bespoke to them and their vision...just like a mini fashion school. We're just there for you on your journey, enabling you to actually make it! We work with students from concept, learning how to measure, fabric selection through to finally sewing your final project from curtains to clothing. Most of our current students couldn't sew or use a machine before they came to MAKE. After our regular weekly sessions, they now make clothes that they actually want to wear and create curtains or bags that make their friends envious! Anyone can learn to sew, design and make. All you need is a bit of encouragement, patience and a nice cuppa to help you along your way!

My name is Helen and I have been crafting since I was a child. Made by Me Workshops was born out of my love of crafting and sharing knowledge. I have spent recent years teaching various crafts and enjoy sharing all the positive benefits that being creative brings. Now more than ever being creative can help improve mood and wellbeing. From my own perspective crafting helps me deal with stress and provides relaxation in a busy world. I love spending time with like-minded people who enjoy the thrill of creating something that whilst not always perfect is perfect to them. Made by Me is more than just crafting workshops, it is about bringing people together. The aim is not just the experience of crafting but taking time away from daily stresses to relax, laugh, create, discover and enjoy some “me” time. At the end of the workshop you will have something you have made and hopefully have met some lovely fellow crafters. There are a range of activities available at my workshop located on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon (Bath side). Gina-B Silkworks designs and produces a variety of craft kits, books, DVDs and other items with an emphasis on handwork & passementerie - decorative textile crafts. We also stock a range of tools & materials for these crafts. Gina also makes bespoke items to commission. "Traditional Crafts for the modern maker" About Gina - Gina Barrett has been making reconstructions of buttons, dress trimmings and other passementerie for museums and costumiers since 1999. Her work can be seen in a variety of museums, heritage sites & stately homes including the Royal Mews, the Royal Armouries, Historic Royal Palaces, The Victoria & Albert Museum, English Heritage, Chicago Museum of Art and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.  She provided buttons, ribbons and braid for an award-winning project at Perth Museum, and hundreds of buttons for the film “Sweeney Todd”. Her latest film work includes buttons for "Napoleon" and "Lee". She has created buttons & trimmings for various series including “The Crown”, “Becoming Elizabeth” , “A Stitch in Time”. She is the author of a number of books including Buttons, A Passementerie Workshop Manual, Dorset Ring Buttons, Thread Wrapped Buttons, Zwirnknopf Buttons and the Making Passementerie range of instructional DVDs. She appears on the Create & Craft channel with demonstrations of passementerie techniques, representing her company Gina-B Silkworks. Gina is the contributor for the Passementerie entry in the Encyclopaedia of Medieval Dress and Textiles of the British Isles c. 450-1450 (Brill). She has also co-authored Tak V Bowes Departed: A 15th Century Braiding Manual Examined and 6 booklets on medieval narrow wares, and regularly produces how-to articles for magazines, as well as papers and essays on other forms of passementerie. Gina has been involved in textile research projects with groups around the world, and is a founder member of Soper Lane, a group begun in 1999 to research the lives and work of the medieval London silkwomen.  Gina is a trained illustrator, with a background in historical and diagram illustration and graphic design. Her passion for textiles grew from studying historical costume for her illustrative work.

The Edinburgh Sewcial Club opened its doors in 2014 teaching dressmaking, sewing and other textiles crafts to people of all ages, levels of ability and experience in evening and weekend classes. Due to the success of the business in January 2017 The Edinburgh Sewcial Club expanded into a new larger studio to accommodate more students after all its not just about learning new skills its also about meeting other creative folks and being ‘sewcial’! However class sizes still remain no more than 6 people for dressmaking and Introduction to sewing, allowing each person ample 1 to 1 tutor time. The Edinburgh Sewcial club is open to everyone and has been teaching dressmaking to people as young as 9 and beginners at 7 years old! Everything is taught at a gentle pace so that you can learn at your own level. As well as dressmaking and sewing there are also a number of other textile crafts taught, beading, embroidery, up cycling & mending even fleece mermaid tail blankets! Its a fun and friendly environment!
