St Michael’s Catholic College Ethos and Expectations The College is committed to bringing each student to the fullness of life through education. At St Michael’s we recognise there are no limits to a child’s potential and our aim is simple; to facilitate academic and personal success by bringing each person to the fullness of life through education within an environment that embraces Gospel and Salesian values – of serving others, respect, tolerance, consistent discipline, loving kindness, reflection, forgiveness and the celebration of success. It is our belief therefore that students grow into mature and responsible adults through following the Salesian principles of RUAH: Respect: Recognising and respecting the presence of Christ in every person Understanding: Being committed to learning and striving for academic excellence Affection: Sustaining high quality relationships as a result of loving kindness and consistent discipline Humour: Developing resilience by maintaining a balanced and optimistic approach to life Our students are expected to demonstrate these values through their actions and interactions in the following ways: Respect: Demonstrating Gospel and British values in your words and actions, serving the college and local community, being an ambassador for St Michael’s. Understanding: Being committed to your education, having excellent attendance and punctuality, working as hard as you can in lessons and at home, your books reflect consistently high effort and your behaviour in and around the college is excellent. Affection: Being polite and respectful to all staff and visitors, being helpful, working well with others, supporting and encouraging others to do well. Humour: Displaying positive attitudes to learning, overcoming challenges, participating in house and college events, doing your best to realise your ambitions. The success of St Michael’s Catholic College is built on these shared values. St John Bosco famously said “It is not enough for children to be loved; they must know that they are loved. At St Michael’s Catholic College, we strive to live up to this ideal every day.

Montpelier High School

Exploring what our mission means to us as members of the Montpelier High School community, we regularly discuss how to bring our mission to life, both at home and at school, in order to be the best version of ourselves. A confident person has a quiet secure inner knowledge that they are capable of handling whatever comes up, possessing the skills and strengths to move forward through any situation. An ethical person is honest and fair; they treat people equally and behave with integrity and compassion. They are sympathetic to the difficulties of others and will compromise in order to always strive to do what is right. A compelling person is bold and creates opportunities; they are comfortable with who they are and wear it like a badge of honour; they are inclusive and generous with everyone they meet, freely paying compliments to others; they are humble, ask questions and listen; and they are unafraid to stand up for something important. We show aspiration in all behaviour that makes each of us a better person and the world a better place. Shaping a better future for everyone means that we must nurture and develop a number of personal qualities such as determination and patience, self-belief and compassion, optimism and enthusiasm, integrity and trust. OUR VALUES Respect. Responsibility. Curiosity. Resilience. Our four core values are at the heart of our ethos and help to define who we are as members of the Montpelier High School community. We will show respect for ourselves and for each other; and we will respect and appreciate the diversity that makes each of us unique. We will take responsibility and be accountable for our own actions and we will strive to act with honesty and integrity at all times. Curiosity drives our thirst to learn. As inquisitive individuals, we will seek a diverse range of perspectives to inform our own views. When we face challenges, we will persevere and show resilience, able to adapt and embrace opportunities where others see only obstacles.

Whilst we are proud of our Scottish roots, we are a globally minded company – we believe every individual across the world deserves to be safe, treated with respect, and have the opportunity to live their best life. Below you’ll find examples of the sectors we frequently work with. Don’t see yourself? Don’t worry! It’s likely we have worked with someone like you in a similar situation. After all, we’ve been leading the field of behaviour support for over twenty years; and our staff have more than 250 years of practice experience and service leadership. Get in touch – we’d love to discuss how we can be of service! Teachers want to teach. They want to use their skills and knowledge and passion to maximise the potential of every child in their classroom or school. Behaviour that challenges can lead to teachers feeling extraordinarily frustrated and feeling they cannot do their job. CALM get it. We understand the frustration and the anxiety. We’ve been those teachers searching for a better way to approach things. CALM supports schools and all school staff to understand and address the root causes of behaviour that challenges using a whole-school, public health approach through our integrative practice model. This enables staff to make sense of challenging situations and to develop child-centred plans to prevent, avert, de-escalate and more safely manage crisis. Such approaches promote and protect the human rights of both children and staff.

Wells

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to The Blue School website. The Blue is a remarkable school. Our school is built around our collective community of wonderful individuals, working toward a shared vision. That makes our school a vibrant and exciting place to study and work. The Blue has served the City of Wells and its surrounding communities since 1641. That history is important to us. It creates an exceptionally strong common ethos that binds generations of families, all of whom have passed through the school. Our core values – respect, empathy, politeness – have been fundamental to the school for over three centuries and continue to serve our community well. Building on our status as a Research School, we have established ourselves as a centre of excellence for teaching. Our broad, creative curriculum strives to give our students a social and academic belonging. Combining close, personal pastoral care, with high academic standards, our students develop the wide range of skills necessary to thrive in the modern world and lead a physically, mentally and spiritually healthy life. We are proud to be a Church school and believe that this supports the emphasis on our core values for all our students. Developing a community belonging for students of a Christian or non-Christian faith, and for those of not faith, remains very important to us. I hope that our website gives you a flavour of life at The Blue. Please do contact us if you wish to find out more about studying or working at our school.
