The RYA Competent Crew course is aimed at beginners to the world of sailing, with little or no experience, who want to become active crew members rather than just passengers. After the course, you will be able to steer a yacht, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in the day-to-day routines of sailing a yacht as well as rope handling and general duties. No age limit. 5 Day Sailing Course - £695 RYA Instructor/Student Ratio max 1:5. To take this course, you must have completed at least 5 days, 100 miles and 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht, and must be 16 or older. 5 Day Sailing Course - £695 RYA Instructor/Student Ratio max 1:5. After this course, you will have the confidence to skipper a yacht on a coastal passage by day or night. Or if completing the Yachtmaster Offshore prep you will arrange with the school to book a RYA Examiner to take the 8/10 hour practical exam soon afterwards. To take this course(Coastal) you will have completed at least 15 days, 300 miles, 8 night hours and 2 days as skipper on board a sailing yacht, and must be 17 for Coastal and 18 for Yachtmaster Offshore for which you will need 2500 miles and three skippered passages over 60 miles plus 50 night hours. 5 Day Sailing Course - £695 RYA Instructor/Student Ratio max 1:5. This course is a requirement for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. If you attend one of our accredited qualification courses, we are also required to collect and hold information about your household situation. This includes whether or not you are the only adult in the household, if any adults in the household are in work, and if there are any children living in the household. It also includes your National Insurance number, employment status and the length of time you have been in this employment. Other types of information collected and held include your highest previous qualification, if you have achieved level 2 in maths or English and any learning difficulties and/or disabilities you have that may impact on your learning. What will we use your data for? Educafe CIC receive Adult Education Budget (AEB) funding from Local Authorities / the Department for Education via the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to support the delivery of education to adults over the age of 19 years from local authority. To receive the funds the service must comply with the ESFA Funding Rules which state we have to collect certain data from you when you enrol upon a course, draw up an individual learning plan or complete post-course evaluation forms/surveys. You can read the rules online at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/sfa-funding-rules. We collect “special category” data in respect of any learning difficulties or disabilities you have in order to make sure that we can make adjustments for you to learn effectively. We only use this data for that purpose, and it is only shared with the express purpose of ensuring you can access learning that is in line with the requirements of The Equality Act 2010. We are required to collect and process this data as a condition of receiving funding under SFA funding rules. This year's Festival saw the return to our family hub at City Art Centre and two major new interactive exhibitions, DataSphere and Consumed, alongside a vibrant and varied programme of other events for audiences of all ages in collaboration with our network of amazing partners. Learning Our touring education programme Generation Science has been providing unique science experiences to schools across Scotland for 30 years. In light of COVID-19 restrictions, this year's programme was made up of pre-recorded workshops, loan kits and make-along boxes which were designed to get pupils out of their seats and involved. Secondary schools careers event Careers Hive was hosted this year on Gather, an interactive online digital platform. Over 2,400 students from over 30 Scottish schools took part in the event, which highlighted the opportunities available to those who study STEM subjects. Worldwide Edinburgh Science also operates a large-scale international programme of work under our Worldwide arm. It regularly presents events overseas and is currently the Major Programming Partner of the annual Abu Dhabi Science Festival, helping to curate, produce and deliver the event. For international partners, the team at Edinburgh Science provide engaging content, curatorial advice on programming and business planning support, along with expert staff and training for local science communicators.
