Dyslexia Care Foundation

dyslexia care foundation

Dyslexia Care Foundation was established by Lola Oluwasuyi who has lived with Dyslexia throughout her life. Despite the difficulties of experiencing this condition firsthand, Lola has been hugely appreciative of the educational support that she has received over the years which has helped her to excel in her education, including successfully achieving her undergraduate degree. She is now studying for her Master’s degree. Lola’s experience demonstrates that with the right support, people with Dyslexia can thrive and reach the same academic heights as anybody else in life. That is why she established Dyslexia Care Foundation with the motto ‘Fair Learning Opportunities’ to provide support and guidance to others. Our work Working throughout the UK we are dedicated to providing a range of services to support people who have experience of Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD or Dyscalculia. Our main objective is to provide guidance on how to access quality educational opportunities and we offer assistance to people from the age of 7 onwards. Our mission Our mission is to provide services to the Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, Dyscalculia community in the way that empower them and lead to their bright future. We work to innovate, support and implement things in a dynamic way. Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, Dyscalculia is not a single condition but in reality affects people in many different ways. Our motto is ‘Fair Learning Opportunities’ and we work with adults and children and their families to help them to get the best from educational opportunities and to find ways to succeed whilst managing their condition. We are all unique According to the NHS, dyslexia affects 1/10 people in the UK. What is most interesting about this condition is that it is unique from person to person and everyone will experience it differently. In our experience what can be particularly difficult is for care givers and parents to know the best way to support someone who has Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD or Dyscalculia. This can also apply to educational establishments and employers as well, so that is where Dyslexia Care Foundation can help. We are here to provide advice, guidance and news on the latest developments, as well as to signpost to resources, education and training which has been proven to help those who experience Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD or Dyscalculia. Our team Our dedicated team is made up of people who have firsthand experience of living with Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD or Dyscalculia, either having experienced it themselves or having supported loved ones with this condition. If you or a loved one has been recently diagnosed with Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD or Dyscalculia it can really help to have contact with someone who understands the condition and has had the direct experience of negotiating the support that is on offer.

Sheffield

Heeley Residents Association wanted to see the land used to make Heeley a better place to live. During 1980 the Association developed the idea of a city farm, and gradually won support for it. Work began on site in July 1981 and the Farm was founded. Over the following years Heeley City Farm had to fight one major battle after another for money and security but the enthusiasm of workers and residents won through. The Farm grew organically over the years from it’s early days with a shed and £25 in the bank, and soon became a well-loved part of the Heeley landscape providing beautiful green spaces and education, employment, and training opportunities. Heeley City Farm is now a well established community, not for profit charity and visitor attraction based on a working farm a mile from Sheffield City centre. Staff and volunteers from Heeley City Farm work with young people, adults with learning disabilities and with local communities across Sheffield to promote regeneration, environmental education, energy efficiency and health and well-being. Horticulture trainees, staff and volunteers also manage organic vegetable gardens at Meersbrook Park, Wortley Walled Gardens and Firth Park allotments. The last remaining terraced house on the Farm site on Alexandra Road has been eco –refurbished and now houses Heeley Energy House, formerly South Yorkshire Energy Centre, an interactive visitor and advice centre open to the public on Wednesday - Sunday, 11am - 3pm. Heeley City Farm is open every day of the year except Christmas Day 9am till 5pm

“Anyone for table tennis?” was an article published in the East Lothian Courier in November 2002. It resulted in an agreement by six local enthusiasts to start a club, playing in the Corn Exchange. In 2015 the Club embarked on a 5-year plan to boost the numbers at all ages playing table tennis across East Lothian. Providing opportunities for young people to take up the sport through schools and community centres and establishing table tennis as a regular form of exercise for people of all ages, including as a therapy for dementia. We run coaching sessions for juniors and seniors twice weekly as part of our club nights, playing on 10 tournament standard tables. In 2015 the Club secured 4-year funding from Sportscotland for a part-time Development Officer. As a result the Club has launched Table Tennis East Lothian in partnership with Active Schools and with sponsorship support from Hab Fab Ltd and EDF Energy. The club leant tables and equipment to primary schools to promote and develop table tennis. As a result of this several hundred pupils each week across East Lothian will be playing table tennis. In 2016, Haddington Table Tennis Club were named ‘East Lothian Sports Club of the Year’. Richard Yule, Chief Operating Officer of Table Tennis Scotland, adds: “Haddington Table Tennis Club are regarded by Table Tennis Scotland as one of our most progressive clubs and a role model for others across Scotland. Their progress is particularly impressive for such a relatively new club.”

Our specialized, hands-on training goes beyond typical missionary orientation and can enhance the professional development provided by our agency partners. Churches We come alongside churches in their short-term missions ministry, providing customized training to church members in preparation for their upcoming trips. Also, if a church is sending a missionary, we provide a host of courses that can prepare individuals and couples for long-term missions service. Missionaries Missionaries come to us with an entrepreneurial vision for serving others, and we help them refine that calling and formulate a plan on how to get where they want to go. Our help to them may be as simple as providing a course to help them gain a necessary skill or as long-term as becoming their sending agency.
