COMPUTER MAINTENANCE & REPAIR AIM Computer Maintenance & Repair Technician course aims to enable participants to diagnose and repair system level faults in computer-based systems at the foundation level. DURATION AND SCHEDULE The course runs over 5 days… The next course commences on Saturday 5th October at 10.00 am. A payment of £65 secures your place on your chosen course. The balance of the course fees of £600 can be paid shortly before course commencement. ONLINE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM – HOW IT WORKS? The course will be delivered through blended training consisting of 5 virtual classroom 6-hour sessions with assessments and examinations taking place on the 5th  day. During the Online Virtual Classroom sessions, trainees will have a live video feed with their instructor talking to them, doing practical live demonstrations and involving trainees actively in the learning. In preparation for this, we plan to have a quick informal online meeting a few days before course commencement for about an hour just to make sure that people get connected properly, let you know what the online virtual classroom will be like and go through any questions you may have. To join the virtual sessions, you will need a PC/Laptop or Tablet with an internet connection. Joining instructions (login IDs, etc) will be sent before the Informal Induction session. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Computer Maintenance & Repair equips participants with practical “Hands-on” skills relevant to the workplace and the theory required for certification. On successful completion of the course, participants will have the skills and knowledge to: * Demonstrate a practical understanding of basic PC systems * Install and commission a working stand-alone PC * Demonstrate a practical understanding of data storage devices * Demonstrate a practical understanding of current printers COURSE CONTENT * Components of a computer: – microprocessor, memory, video slot/card, sound card, I/O card, FDD and CD controllers, serial and parallel interfaces, expansion modules. * Microprocessor: – Specifications, speed, data and address bus widths * Memory: – RAM, ROM, cache, floppy and hard disk, CD and DVD ROM, USB. Maintenance, testing and cleaning drives. * I/O: – Serial and parallel, RS232, RS423, Centronics, serial and parallel cables and connector testing for use in current PC systems * Monitors and Displays: – Definitions, types, uses and applications. * Printers: – types, applications and specifications. Principles of operation of inkjet and laser printers, paper handling, printer cables and connections. * Power supplies. Ratings: – Voltage, current and power requirements, DC and AC. The energy-saving function, block diagram, typical faults, software setup and menu-driven adjustments. * Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) and Safety Precautions. * The WEEE directive, correct disposal of PC and printer waste. * Installing and commissioning functioning systems. * Fault Diagnosis: – PC boot-up sequence, Power On Self Test (POST), virus checking and clearing, Software diagnostics and flowcharts. Component and module substitution and testing techniques. CERTIFICATION * City & Guilds of London Institute PC Technology (Examination No. 7267-426). This examination consists of 2 written tests and 3 practical assignments. The qualification can be used as part of the requirement for City & Guilds Diploma in IT Systems Support (7267-24). DIGITAL, TEXT & VOICE COMMUNICATORS AIM The Hi-Tech Training Digital Text & Voice Communicator Course is designed to provide participants with the skills required to connect Digital, Text & Voice Communicators to an Alarm Control Panel for transmission of Digital status signals via the telephone line, GSM Network or IP network to a central monitoring station. The Digital Communicator Course’s practical application and our highly experienced trainers ensure that this course is second to none. The course is technical and practical in nature and is suitable for participants who have successfully completed the Hi-Tech Training Intruder Alarm Installation Course or equivalent. DURATION AND SCHEDULE Digital Text & Voice Communicator Course runs over 1 day. The next course commences on Saturday 13th April at 10.00am.  A payment of £65 secures your place on your chosen course. The balance of the course fees of £600 can be paid shortly before course commencement. ONLINE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM – HOW IT WORKS? We will send out a practical kit so that trainees can complete assignments and practical work at home. The kit is the property of Hi-Tech Training and will be returned to Hi-Tech Training on the last day of the course. The kit consists of Digital Communicator, WIFI Card, Cables, Multimeter, Connectors. Trainees will build various projects as part of the course. The kit forms an integral part of the course, so full course fees need to be paid at least 7 days prior to course commencement to allow time to ship the kit in time for the course. * If attending the course from outside of Ireland the course will be streamed live and delivered through blended learning consisting of 1 virtual 6-hour classroom session via zoom. As a result, the practical training kit must be purchased via our online shop in time for delivery before course commencement. The equipment will then remain the property of the trainee.
