WE TEACH. Since January 2014, ReadAble has been running weekly reading and language arts classes for children ages 2 to 15 in a neighbourhood in the Chin Swee area. We started out teaching in children’s homes, but have grown to occupy classrooms in the Residents’ Committee Centre. We teach a phonics-based curriculum to our earliest readers and deliver a programme which complements the primary school syllabus for those who have mastered the basics of reading. We use drama, movement and play to draw out a love for reading, build self-confidence, and encourage creativity. WE BUILD. ReadAble has built a community library of over a thousand books for our kids to freely access books at every reading level throughout the week. We also organise educational excursions to plays and museums, as well as connect kids’ families with community resources, such as school supply donations and workshops by professional educators. Through our BookDrop project, we set up conducive study spaces and mini-libraries in kids’ homes. WE MENTOR. Apart from our classes every Saturday, some volunteers run one-on-one classes with children in their homes across the week forming deep relationships with families. We also started a class teaching the predominantly migrant mothers of our students, functional English to navigate life in Singapore. EVERY CHILD LOVED. We believe that children thrive in love. We are committed to forming lasting relationships with them as teachers and mentors. Each child’s progress is closely monitored and classes are tailored to meet their learning styles. We recognise that our children weather challenges such as parental incarceration or family violence, and we strive to support them. EVERY FAMILY PARTNERED. Family support is crucial to a child’s success. We work alongside families to reinforce children's learning at home. We seek to understand our children’s home life and we engage parents with routine updates on their children’s progress. EVERY VOLUNTEER EMPOWERED. ReadAble is entirely volunteer-led and run, and we are serious about equipping our people. We run regular training sessions on topics from phonics to classroom management and how toxic stress affects child development. We constantly refine our methods based on research and best practices. EVERYONE A COMMUNITY. We seek to build an inclusive community that encourages children's diverse aspirations and engages everyone with empathy. We have a flat volunteer structure led by our Co-founders and Core Team who form friendships with children and their families. Together, we work to eradicate social inequality.

Completing the Quran is an important goal that every Muslim tries to accomplish at least once in their lifetime. Ibnu Abbas radiyallahu anhu narrates that one day someone asked the Prophet (SAW), “Rasulullah, what practice does Allah love the most?” And the Prophet (SAW) replied, “Al-hal wal murtahal.” And the person asked, “what is al-hal wal murtahal, Rasulullah?” The Prophet (SAW) replied, “it is reading Al Quran from the beginning to its end, after he finished, he starts over”. As parents, we have found that our children are finding it more and more difficult to complete this task in our fast paced lifestyles. Despite this, the dream of every parent is to help their child complete the recitation of the Quran. We at the Quran Hour will help you to fulfil this responsibility by allocating a programme dedicated to accomplish the goal of Khatam al-Quran. In our Complete the Quran package, we aim to focus on your child finishing the oral recitation of the Quran in Arabic. This course will be less focused on pronunciation and more on completing the Quran. We (Georgette & Sophinne) are sisters who both share an obsessive love for ethical home scents that are reminiscent of good times. We developed our scent range around childhood memories growing up in the UK and through family trips around Europe and Ghana. Aya is an Adinkra symbol in Ghana meaning resourcefulness and endurance represented as a fern and was used as a symbol of hope throughout the pandemic. The fern artwork in our packaging represents the Adinkra symbol and our commitment to being an eco-friendly brand. We are 100% environmentally friendly, vegan and sustainable and with our rebrand decided to plant a tree with every order as we believe climate action is everyone's responsibility. Each of our products have been designed to transform spaces and fill them with colour and character through the art of scent. We have been recommended by numerous major publications such as; Harper's Bazaar, The Times, Cosmopolitan, Stylist, House Beautiful and HSBC along with many others. The Five Minute Literacy Box and The Five Minute Number Box have been opened by children of all ages since 2003. Since then, the activities and materials have been updated as necessary with best practice dyslexia teaching. When Jane Kendall (BA, Dip RSA SpLD) founded Five Minute Box she realised the effects that early failure has on self esteem and the impact that anxiety has on working relationships in families and peer groups. Jane worked as a Primary School class teacher, Inclusion manager and trainer of Teaching Assistants in the UK. With her training and experience in Specific Learning Difficulties, she observed that many children in each class were struggling with English and Maths early in their education. She found that using structured multisensory programmes of specific games for just a few minutes each day helped children overcome their difficulties while learning strategies to help themselves. Five Minute Boxes are now used by children all over the world. Early use of Five Minute Box interventions helps identify children with potential specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. The activities adapt to each child’s differences. Children love taking ownership over their learning using the Boxes. They learn organisational and sequencing skills and help to choose their session goals. Children experience success, which motivates them further.
