ROXCOOL is a professional instructional business based in and around the North East of England but we are often found working in North Yorkshire, The Peak District, Scotland and our favourite place in the whole world The Lake District. We specialise in climbing and mountaineering courses but also offer opportunities for adventures through guided and fun activities using our team of professionals. We were established in January 2009 and since then the company has not only survived but has prospered. We are very proud of the fact that we are the only Mountain Training course provider in the North East of England, offering all of their climbing instructor and walking leadership courses. We pride ourselves on giving satisfaction and so far all our feedback on both Facebook and TripAdvisor has been 5 * and positive. We also offer technical self-improvement courses relating to safe systems used in climbing and mountaineering situations. So whether its learning to set up simple belay systems or the rudiments of navigation we have a course for you. Our guiding service is very popular for those with specific goals in mind, so you can enjoy and access some of the classic walks, climbs and scrambles of The Lake District and other mountainous areas of the UK or just have a grand day out. Our work with both local and national charities has gone from strength to strength over the past few years and makes up a high proportion of our annual delivery. We specialise in tailor made events and have become somewhat experts in abseiling from unusual buildings (just click on our ‘Charity Events’ tab above). Our charity walks are a great way to encourage lots of participants and a great way to raise money for a chosen charity close to your heart. Finally, we wanted to tell you about our Spanish Adventures and retreats based in Southern Spain. These adventures definitely fit with our company strap line 'for adventures of a lifetime'. Although we have had a connection and a place set aside in our heart with a little village called Murtas for over fifteen years, we have only recently, started to offer adventures there. These adventures are as far removed from life on the costa's as they could be and so far everyone who has visited has fallen in love with the areas we have taken them to. So if you are after some guaranteed sun, warm hospitality, a new cultural experience and possibly a little vino away from the tourists, we think we have the perfect experience for you. I grew up in a little market town in the East Midlands, happily in awe of the magic buzzing beneath the tapestry of existence in the countryside surrounding me, making childhood potions from crushed herbs and flowers and sneaking home Esoteric books to read from the library. At 18, I grew restless with a curiosity about the world and quit college to save up, travel, and spend time learning from the hidden tribes and global communities I had read so much about. My travels expanded my understanding around magic and how ritual had manifested in different indigenous cultures beyond our Celtic origins. Here, I began my journey training to become a Reiki healer (and eventually teacher), with a personal earth mission to also contribute as much healing, light and joy to our planet as possible. By my twenties I had returned home, moved to the city and anchored myself back into a decade of education. I gained a PGCE qualification as a secondary school art teacher and finished a University Degree; a BA Honours in Creative Therapies where I focused my dissertation on the healing power of Creative Ritual and Art in Psychotherapy. Following this, I worked for 5 years as a Creative Therapist as part of an Intensive intervention Team for Children in Social Care, whilst also founding and managing London's Activist Art group 'The People's Tribe' to try and promote positive change in society with creativity (and of course, rebellion!) As I approached my thirties, I began to delve deep into my own shadow work and healing, which lead me to explore the healing potential of plant medicines, shamanic rituals and tincture making. One summer, I softened, decided it was time to return back to the countryside and challenged myself to set off at sunset for an overnight pilgrimage. I mapped out the leylines and followed them on foot, walking 12 hours by myself through the night, singing songs to the stars and arrived at sunrise on the mystical lands of Glastonbury for the first time, where I began my training in Celtic Shamanism.... and never left! I'm humbled to live a harmonious and gentle life here upon the mystical lands of Avalon. From this sacred motherland, I forage and make flower tincture medicines from the earth and sculpt personalised wands from the fallen branches of the ancient orchards. More than anything, I love to compassionately hold space for others walking the sacred path of initiation or undertaking healing/ shadow work. (We're at a very interesting moment in history where nothing is more important than this!) I do this using therapy, ritual, ceremony, playfulness and creativity to help alchemise and empower individuals to step into the highest version of themselves and it brings me so much joy to see the light returning, one by one, to the beautiful tribe we know as the human race. Let's rise together and remember who we really are as we make the journey back home to ourselves!

The first BOA Training and Education Strategy document was published in 2012. It set out an action centred approach to development work across four community domains and eleven projects. A year later we have taken the opportunity to refresh the strategy in the light of work completed, and some new initiatives reflecting the ever changing dynamic of surgical training and education. The BOA focuses its training and education resources on: Development of the T&O specialty training curriculum. Construction and delivery of an annual trainee instructional course, geared to a four year FRCS (Tr and Orth) cycle. Awards of fellowships and prizes. CESR courses for SAS surgeons aspiring to gain entry to the specialist register. Delivery of training the trainer and educational supervisor instructional courses. Delivery of MSK clinical assessment skills courses for those in Core Training. Revalidation of all T&O surgeons through our annual Congress with a series of clinical and other instructional content geared to a five year cycle. The development of our e-learning capability for both specialty training and broader revalidation purposes. The need for continuing pace The shape and diversity of the healthcare work force is evolving rapidly: all elements are doing more with less in order to contain NHS expenditure at a sustainable level. T&O in particular faces a unique set of challenges and the BOA has developed an action plan through which to address them: full details are contained in our Practice Strategy. Focused on high quality care for patients against the backdrop of a 15% and growing capacity gap in elective orthopaedics, the action plan highlights the need for better patient pathways, enhanced implant surveillance, strong partnerships between providers of acute care, multidisciplinary teams working seamlessly across the primary and secondary care divide, and clinical culture change within the T&O community. All this needs to be instilled in surgeons from the outset of their careers, and the challenge for the BOA as a Surgical Specialty Association is to identify, recruit, educate and nurture the best talent from medical schools and throughout their formative and specialty training in order to create sufficient: High quality T&O capacity with surgical capability in depth to meet future demand. Future clinical academic capacity to sustain the UK’s T&O research capability. The rationale for this is set out in the BOA Research Strategy In addition, we need to: Care better for our patients throughout their treatment pathways by engaging effectively and productively with General Practitioners, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals with an interest in orthopaedics. Accordingly we continue to broaden the scope of our training and education work. This will be essential if we are to encompass more fully the needs of the T&O community and the wider musculoskeletal multi-disciplinary team. Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a larger-than-average mixed secondary school in the town of Birtley. The school role is usually around 1450 students, including around 200 in the sixth form. The school occupies a large site, elevated above the east side of the town. Birtley is situated in the borough of Gateshead, and is between Gateshead and Chester-le-Street. Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a stand-alone academy, with no affiliation to other schools or academy trusts. Secondary schools in Gateshead work closely together, with one another, with their cluster of primary schools and with the local authority. The school was founded in 1970 as an amalgamation of three previous secondary schools. The present school building was opened in September 2007, built as part of the government’s Private Finance Initiative. The building was constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine and is very well maintained. It provides good-sized classrooms and excellent facilities for learning. Andrew Fowler has been the Principal since June 2019. Previous principals were Mark Lovatt and, before him, David Grigg. The principal is assisted by a deputy principal and a small number of assistant principals. Departments are led by subject leaders, assisted in the larger subjects by deputy and assistant subject leaders. The school is named after Jack Lawson, who was an influential local trade union leader and Labour politician. Jack Lawson became a Member of Parliament, representing a constituency in County Durham. He was a minister in the MacDonald and Attlee governments. When Jack Lawson was given a life peerage in 1950, he took the title Baron Lawson of Beamish. Recently we asked TLP to deliver a series of masterclass sessions for our KOL’s. The topic for this is Business Case Planning and the response has been fantastic. The 4 days we arranged were fully booked almost immediately! I hope you and your family managed to have a relaxing summer and enjoyed the sunshine. Now that all of our students are back in school, I just wanted to introduce myself as the new Principal and to introduce you to my two new Deputies. I also wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with some updates on what lies ahead for Silverstone UTC. After 19 years in teaching, mostly at senior levels in a pastoral capacity, I take over the helm of the UTC at a very exciting time. This year’s KS4 admissions were the best ever and we currently have a waiting list of over fifty students wishing to join Year 10. Year 12 recruitment was very pleasing, with numbers up and the academic calibre of the intake being a testament to their hard work in their GCSE examinations. It is always so inspiring when young people rise to a challenge. With this year being the first year of formal KS4 examination since Covid, it is heartening to see how many have secured the GCSEs needed to take them onto their next steps. Both new year groups have made an excellent start and they and their Parents/Carers should be rightly proud. It is now vital that our students maintain that positivity and that they work alongside teaching staff to maximise their potential. With regard to the students who will be starting their final years in KS4 and KS5, I am confident that they are now entering those years better prepared for what lies ahead as the shadow of Covid appears to have lifted. Our job, alongside these students, is to ensure that we work hard to secure for them the academic success that will allow them to fulfil their future dreams and aspirations. The importance of maintaining strong academic outcomes and supporting these students is borne out by the destinations for this year’s leavers. Many secured jobs in organisations like BAE, Mercedes AMG, Boeing, Roll Royce, Scania, Torque Motorsport, DB Automotive and the Armed Forces whilst others went on to colleges and university to study a range of subjects such as Architecture, Finance, Automotive and Civil Engineering, Marketing and Renewable Technologies. In 2021 none of our students (by choice) were without opportunities in education, employment and training and it would appear, given early indications, that this is going to be the same for this year’s leavers. What an excellent outcome for our young people. It reflects the fact that students who attend the UTC are seen by many employers, outside agencies and educational institutions as much more work-ready than those from other educational establishments. The ethos of work-readiness and of developing the personal qualities of our students so they can flourish in their next stage is a core theme that is going to underpin the excellent educational opportunities that all the staff in the UTC will strive to provide for your sons and daughters. We are current fully staffed and my new deputies bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will strengthen the Senior Leadership Team immensely. Mrs Angela Murphy is the Deputy for Curriculum and Achievement. She comes from Lord Grey and has been pivotal in securing them a good outcome in their recent inspection. Her reputation for expecting high standards in curriculum delivery and maximising achievement will, I am sure, lead to greater effectiveness of teachers and greater academic understanding for your sons and daughters. She will work alongside our Assistant Principal, Mr Simon Hollies, who brings a broad and in-depth understating of academic theories related to improving the quality of teaching and Learning. Between them and the staff at the UTC, I am wholly confident that best practise in the class will be the norm for all. My other new deputy, Mr William Jakeman, joins us as Head of Pastoral Care, which includes behaviour and safeguarding. Mr Jakeman has had many years’ experience in this role at the most senior levels and has a reputation of upholding the highest standards, whilst underpinning his expectations with a fairness, kindness and compassionate rigour that is respected by students who know he has their best interest at heart. It is also important to me and my team that wellbeing needs of SEN(D) and disadvantages are met as best as we can and to that end, this year, I have appointed a SEN(D) Teaching and Learning Lead (Ms Jessica Dixon) who will work alongside our SENCO (Ms Christie Norris) and our very talented Teaching Assistants (Mrs Lauren Leeson and Mrs Jessica Ryzman). Ms Dixon’s focus will be to ensure that the specific needs of SEN(D) students in the class are being met and that these students and their parents/carers have an advocate who will work alongside them to ensure the best educational experience for their sons and daughters. As a teacher of many years, she brings to the role a clear understanding of what has to be achieved and I have every confidence in her ability to make good things happen for students in her care. Finally, I have the privileged task of guiding the long term future of the UTC towards a Multi-Academic Trust (MAT). In aiming to join a Trust in September 2023, we will seek to ensure that Silverstone UTC has the best opportunities to share with other schools the best academic and well-being expertise, fiscal security, strength and depths in a wider curriculum that will benefit our students and staff and in so doing, further strengthen the already great position in which we find ourselves today. As that process continues, I will be updating all those involved but I start the journey excited by the great benefits that being part of a MAT will bring to the UTC, our staff and most importantly your sons and daughters. I end by thanking everyone involved in the UTC for the start made this term.
