We are a dance family that look out for each other and encourage our pupils to succeed with their dreams. GE is a safe and loving environment where all attendees whether young or old enjoy themselves and feel accepted regardless of background, or technique in dance. Our school is built on the ‘3Es’: ‘Equip, Encourage and Engage’ to help our pupils grow and excel in dance, as individuals, as a team, and in making a difference in the world around them. 1) Equip GE seeks to bring excellence into our teaching and quality of dance. We aim to bring in the right balance of fun, challenge and variety in the classes that we teach. Regardless of whether our pupils are with us for a term or for some years we seek to equip them with a new skill that will aid them in their journey through life. 2) Encourage Encouragement is something we love to share and grow in our pupils. It’s so easy to look at the negatives, especially in learning something new. We aim to focus on the positives before addressing the improvements or gentle corrections. At times our pupils will watch each other and learn to feedback with two encouragement points and one improvement point. In doing this they learn to build each other up and recognise each other’s individual strengths and giftings. Each dancer is unique. 3) Engage Community is something we care deeply about and we see dance as an opportunity to make a difference where we can. We give pupils opportunities to take part in fundraisers, community projects and shows to teach them that they can help others and make the world a better place. As a dance school we love to liaise with charities, churches and schools and have been involved with SU camps, school projects, fundraisers and outreaches.

From an original working party of approximately 20 local business persons, the company was formed with the Objectives of the Company being: To establish a specialist fishing industry centre in Whitby, North Yorkshire, to serve the port of Whitby and other ports. To provide education and training in fishing industry methods which shall include buy not be limited to modern Apprenticeships, new skills training, health & safety, navigation and catch handling. To provide education and training but not limited to Class 1 and Class 2 level. To market and promote the profile of the fishing industry within local communities. To carry on any other business or activity which may seem capable of being conveniently carried on in connection with any activity of the Company or may seem to the Company calculated directly or indirectly to benefit the Company. The Board of Directors was formed with each one being strategically chosen for the skills and knowledge they can bring to the school. Our Board meets regularly and is energetic in its support of the school and its staff. The relational skills came to fruition in 2001, through the work of Dr. Jim Wilder. Chris Coursey worked closely with Jim Wilder in the testing and creation of the THRIVE Training which was heavily influenced by the research of Dr. Allan Schore of UCLA, Dr. Daniel Siegel (UCLA) and more pioneers. Wilder took the best in brain research to develop exercises that Chris tested in the redemptive community setting where he worked. In 2002, the first in-person THRIVE Training was held. In 2006, the team did a major redesign to include intentional timing for skill practices for each of the 19 skills in every training track. 3 years later, THRIVE Training events go international where they have now been led in the US, Canada, South Korea, Australia, with more on the horizon. For the next 10 years, more resources were published, more trainings were held, and soon THRIVE became known for gathering people to practice skills, build relationships and find interpersonal growth. THRIVE Training was originally a training launched through the organization, Life Model Works. Chris and Jen Coursey soon launched an independent organization known as THRIVEtoday, dedicated to creating training resources and running events focused on the acquisition, strengthening and spreading the 19 relational skills to the world. When COVID-19 disrupted life in 2020, THRIVEtoday had to pivot to create more online learning opportunities for skill training and practice. Through the pandemic, the organization launched shorter training events online, wrote books and developed online courses, and made the skills more accessible than ever before. quick facts
