I wish you a very warm welcome to our website. I am a practising teacher who has over 20 years experience in the secondary education sector, my specialist subject being science. Currently, I hold the position of Deputy Headteacher in an 11-16 secondary school with responsibility for curriculum development. Since being a senior leader, I have gained significant experience in leading whole school professional development and the quality assurance of the quality of education. I have been awarded a distinction in a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and in doing so have carried out research relating to curriculum and social justice. I strongly believe in: Creating an engaging, challenging curriculum which allows all children to flourish and achieve their potential. Providing high quality professional development which allows staff to improve performance in the classroom. An education system that empowers learners and promotes social justice. Promoting social justice is the intrinsic drive behind everything I do, and is one of the core values behind the Iridium Education philosophy. DreamTeach Geography has been developed by a team of Geography teachers in order to provide a complete teaching package for the Geography Teacher. The team comprises of Geographers with a range of experience from ICT and SEN to department, faculty and senior leadership. We bring together developments in ICT, thinking skills and more traditional resources to offer a complete package that will help to stimulate, and improve the learning experience of pupils in your classroom. Our ethos is to offer an evolving product which will be improved, updated and expanded on a daily basis. Our "Geography in the News" pages, for example, will offer teaching resources as soon as geographical events occur around the world. Geography is the subject which lends itself to the use of interactive ICT resources in the best possible manner. This package makes Geography as interesting and accessible as possible for learners, from the fun and stimulating starter and plenary activities, to the carefully designed lesson activities. We have specific Primary and Secondary sections, in addition to skills and Geography in the News sections. We also have a news blog where regular updates can be found. Our latest development is a free homework section which pupils can access at home or in school, which is designed to complement our existing resources. To this end, we have developed a ‘Manifesto for Change’ which sets out the ways in which we aim to continue our journey to excellence and identifies the long-term priorities for the school. One of our main priorities this year will be to ensure, as far as we can, that no child is left behind and that every child is challenged by the curriculum that we have in place. Students should find things difficult, although not impossible, at times. They should struggle at times and be expected to think deeply about the work that they do. They shouldn’t be getting everything right all of the time; if they are, the work is too easy and they’re not being challenged. None of this means that they shouldn’t be enjoying their learning; being challenged can be enjoyable. The curriculum is the bread and butter of our educational offer and should be inspiring a real thirst for learning; we can only do this through supporting and challenging.
