<h2><strong>About this Training Course </strong></h2>
<p>This 5 full-day training course looks at the setup of economic analysis cases, including the estimation of recoverable reserves, production profiles, commodity prices, and project costs - CAPEX, OPEX, taxes, royalties, transportation, depreciation, before-tax (BTAX) cash-flow, after-tax (ATAX) cash-flow and international fiscal regimes (production sharing agreement and concessionary system). The course begins from the basic required parameters of inflation, interest and time value of money. These concepts are then transformed into profitability indicators. Last but not the least, the profitability indicators are then used to make investment decisions.</p>
<p>The emphasis of this course is to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and their practical limitations. The participants will be able to appreciate the amount of information that they never thought of. Another emphasis of this course is also on the use of Excel's financial functions. This understanding is very critical when it comes to building economic cash-flow models. Over the years, we have seen that participants really struggle with using the Excel functions correctly and this leads to mistakes that can be easily avoided.</p>
<p>In each session, multiple choice problems are provided to participants to reinforce their understanding of the concepts covered in the course. Many quick or tips not widely known, are also shared with the participants. The concepts covered in this course are not restricted to downstream, upstream or petrochemical projects. These concepts can be used to evaluate any type of investment under consideration. <strong>Participants will require access to computers/laptops with Excel to solve problems during the course.</strong></p>

<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">This 5-days comprehensive training not only an introduction into the issue associated with the development of oil and gas fields but also provides an in depth understanding of the issues to be considered in the development of these fields. The theme throughout this training course is Flow Assurance and Innovative Technologies. Each day consists of lectures in the morning and a hands-on workshop in the afternoon. The workshop allows the participants to appreciate the design process associated with field developments. Various software will be available during the workshop to predict Multiphase flows through wells, pipelines and risers, as well as evaluating reservoir production profiles using alternative technologies to develop reservoirs. Further software to assess Surge and environmental safety will also be available.</p>
<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">The field design approach will consider an integrated solution through modelling the reservoir decline, wells, flowlines, risers and the host facility. <h2><strong>About this Training Course</strong></h2>
<p>There are various kinds of geophysical data available. They are separated into seismic and non-seismic (multi-physics) data. Non-seismic or multi-physics data (which includes gravity, magnetics, electrical, electromagnetics, spectral etc - apart from providing complimentary information to seismic) is the main source of information for very shallow subsurface applications such as engineering, mapping pollution, archaeology, geothermal energy, and related areas. This 5 full-day blended course will focus specifically on seismic data which is the main method used in the Oil &amp; Gas industry.</p>
<p>In this blended course, participants will be equipped to understand that seismic data represents the movement of the surface, resulting from waves generated by a source, dynamite or vibrator which are reflected by changes in the subsurface rocks. The basic principles of acquisition and processing will be explained and insights into advanced methods, allowing a much more accurate interpretation of seismic data than previously considered possible, will also be provided.</p>
<p>This blended course contains an introduction to Machine Learning and its important role in all aspects of seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation. There is no need to know in detail how the algorithms work internally but it is necessary to know how to use them correctly to achieve optimum results.</p>

<p>Your expert course leader has degree in Geology (University of Leiden), a Master's degree in Theoretical Geophysics (University of Utrecht) and a PhD in Utrecht on 'Full wave theory and the structure of the lower mantle'. This involved forward modelling of P- and S-waves diffracted around the core-mantle boundary and comparison of the frequency-dependent attenuation of the signal with those obtained from major earthquakes observed at long offsets in the 'shadow zone' of the core. These observations were then translated into rock properties of the D' transition zone.</p>
<p>After his PhD, he joined Shell Research in The Netherlands to develop methods to predict lithology and pore-fluid based on seismic, petrophysical and geological data. He subsequently worked for Shell in London to interpret seismic data from the Central North Sea Graben. As part of the Quantitative Interpretation assignment, he was also actively involved in managing, processing and interpreting Offshore Seismic Profiling experiments.</p>
<p>After his return to The Netherlands, he headed a team for the development of 3D interpretation methods using multi-attribute statistical and pattern recognition analysis on workstations. After a period of Quality Assurance of 'Contractor' software for seismic processing, he became responsible for Geophysics in the Shell Learning Centre. During that period, he was also a part-time professor in Applied Geophysics at the University of Utrecht.</p>
<p>From 2001 to 2005, he worked on the development of Potential Field Methods (Gravity, Magnetics) for detecting oil and gas. Finally, he became a champion on the use of EM methods and became involved in designing acquisition, processing and interpretation methods for Marine Controlled Source EM (CSEM) methods.</p>
<p>After his retirement from Shell, he founded his own company, specialising in courses on acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical data (seismic, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic data), providing courses to International and National energy companies.</p>
<p>In the last couple of years, he became keenly interested in the use of Machine Learning in Geophysics. Apart from incorporating 'Artificial Intelligence' in his courses, he also developed a dedicated Machine Learning course for geophysics.</p>

<p>By the end of this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT), participants will be able to:</p>

<li>Improve the evaluation, execution and delivery of exploration projects, measured in terms of successful bids for new acreage, increased success rate and volume delivery from exploration drilling, and more rapid progress in appraisal of discoveries.</li>
<li>Describe concepts, simple processes, workflows and analysis tools for project execution. Tools include the expert course leader's proprietary project management framework, including project framing and after-action review methodologies, templates for strategy development, decision trees, decision quality frameworks. They also include customised Excel spreadsheets for portfolio modelling, project risk assessment (in new ventures and prospect maturation) and business planning.</li>
<li>Understand their role in (a) delivering the company's strategy, (b) contributing data and assessments to key exploration decision makers, and (c) communicating project progress and results to senior management.</li>

<p>The Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) is aimed at exploration professionals with more than 5 to 10 years of experience in the business, who would like to develop their skills for managing exploration projects and presenting the goals and results of their project work to senior management.</p>

<p>Your expert course leader draws on more than 35 years of experience managing, reviewing and directing projects in all aspects of the exploration business: from exploration business development (new ventures), through prospect maturation and drilling, to the appraisal of discoveries. He has more than 30 years' experience with Shell International, followed by 10 years consulting to NOCs in Asia Pacific, Africa and South America and independent oil companies in the United Kingdom, continental Europe and North America.</p>
<p>Other than delivering industry training, he has worked on projects for oil &amp; gas companies of all sizes, including independents, national oil companies and (super)-majors, private equity firms, hedge funds and investment banks, and leading management consulting  firms.</p>
<p>He is an alumnus of Cambridge University. He has M.A and Ph.D. degrees in geology and is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London as well as a respected speaker on management panels at international conferences.</p>
<p>Professional Experience</p>

<li>Management consultancy &amp; executive education: Advice to investment banks, businesses and major consulting firms. Specialist expertise in upstream oil &amp; gas, with in depth experience in exploration strategy, portfolio valuation and risk assessment.</li>
<li>Leadership: Managed and led teams and departments ranging from 3 - 60 in size. Provided technical leadership to a cadre of 800 explorationists in Shell worldwide. Member of the 12-person VP team leading global exploration in Shell, a $3 bln p.a. business and recognised as the most effective and successful among its industry peers.</li>
<li>Accountability &amp; decision-making: Accountable for bottom-line results: in a range of successful exploration ventures with budgets ranging from $10's million to $100's million. Made, or contributed to, complex business decisions / investments, taking into account strategic, technical, commercial, organisational and political considerations.</li>
<li>Corporate governance: Served as non-executive director on the Boards of the South Rub al Khali Company (oversight of gas exploration studies and drilling in Saudi Arabia) and SEAPOS B.V. (exploration deep-water drilling and facilities management).</li>
<li>Technical &amp; operations: Skilled in exploration opportunity evaluation, the technical de risking of prospects, portfolio analysis and managing the interface between exploration and well engineering activities. Unparalleled knowledge of the oil and gas basins of the world, and of different operating regimes and contractual structures, ranging from Alaska, Gulf of Mexico and Brazil, through to the Middle East, former Soviet Union, Far East and Australia.</li>
<li>Safety: Following an unsatisfactory audit, became accountable for safety performance in Shell's exploration new ventures. Through personal advocacy and leadership of a small team, delivered pragmatic and effective HSE systems, tools and staff training / engagement and a dramatically improved safety record.</li>
<li>R&amp;D: Experience in the 3 key roles in R&amp;D: scientific researcher, research manager, and 'customer' for R&amp;D products. After re-defining Shell's exploration R&amp;D strategy, led the re-structuring of the R&amp;D organization, its interface with 'the business' and approaches to deployment and commercialization.</li>
<li>Strategy: Accomplished at formulating competitive strategies in business, R&amp;D and technology deployment, translating them into actionable tactics and results. Defined the exploration strategy of PDO (a Shell subsidiary in Oman) and latterly of Shell's global exploration programme.</li>
<li>Professional education, behavioural/motivational coaching: Experienced in organisational re-design, change management, leadership education and talent development.</li>
<li>Commercial skills: Personally negotiated drilling compensation claims, educational contracts and E&amp;P contracts, with values of $5 million to $100+ million.</li>

Entry Requirements:
Learners must be aged 16 plus. Ideally they should have some experience of gym-based exercises as participation in a variety of gym-based practical sessions will be required throughout the qualification. Learners should also have communication skills pitched at level 2 which can be developed during the course.
