<p><strong>Trainer 1:</strong></p>
<p>Your first expert course leader is a specialist in reservoir engineering, field development planning and petroleum management. Having worked for over 40 years in the petroleum industry, his most recent full-time position was Chief Operating Officer and Project Director for AED Oil and East Puffin (2007-09) for the Puffin offshore development, Timor Sea.</p>
<p>Prior to his academic career (2001-2006), commencing in 2001 as head of the new School of Petroleum Engineering and Management at the UA, he worked for 16 years for BHP Petroleum (now BHP Billiton), most recently as Chief Reservoir Engineer for their worldwide operations. Other positions with BHP Billiton involved mainly technical and project management, and general management positions, including member of the BHP Board. He was project manager (feasibility) for two FPSO projects, the Skua and Griffin area fields, offshore Australia. He was also the Technical Manager for the Dai Hung project, offshore Vietnam where first oil was achieved in just 18 months from sanction. Before that time, he worked for Shell International (8 years) in the Netherlands, including two years as Senior Lecturer Reservoir Engineering at Shell's training centre and in Australia, seconded to Woodside Energy, with a key role in Australia's largest capital project (at the time), the Northwest Shelf Gas development. He started his career in Calgary, Canada, first with Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas and subsequently with the US consulting company, Scientific Software Corporation.</p>
<p>He holds a BSc degree in Physics from the University of British Columbia and a MS degree in Nuclear Engineering from Stanford University. He has been an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, including Director for the Asia-Pacific region (1996-98) and as a member of the Board. He was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer during 2001-02 and a PESA Distinguished Lecturer during 2002. He has lectured at many institutions and was a visiting professor at Stanford University in 2000. He has published over 50 papers on both technical and managerial topics.</p>
<p>His professional interests are in optimal planning and project management of offshore petroleum discoveries. His primary research interests are in the area of special core analysis and the development of predictive models for reservoir characterisation.</p>
<p><strong>Trainer 2:</strong></p>
<p>Your other course leader is currently an independent consultant and trainer after 37 years in the upstream petroleum industry. His previous roles included Chief Geologist for GALP Energy, Consultant/ Head of Exploration for Qatar Petroleum, Technical/ Asset Manager for SASOL, and various technical and technical management roles in BHP Billiton Petroleum and Chevron.</p>
<p>He managed/ executed many projects in diverse locations: West Grimes gas field development - California; Port Arguello heavy oil development - offshore California; exploration &amp; development projects - Nigeria; Tengiz field early development, Korolev appraisal - Kazakhstan; Nkossa field development, Moho/ Bilondo exploration - offshore Congo; PNG divestment, Bayu-Undan LNG development - Australia; Ohanet acquisition, appraisal &amp; development - Algeria; Pande development, Pande/ Temane gas plant expansion &amp; near field exploration - Mozambique; Pre-Khuff (HP/HT) exploration, multiple blocks &amp; operators - Qatar; Coral/ Mamba appraisal - Mozambique; Blocks 14/32 exploration &amp; development - Angola; exploration &amp; appraisal - onshore &amp; offshore Brazil.</p>
<p>He has an MSc in Geophysics from Stanford, an MBA from St. Mary's College of California, and a BSc in Geology (Honors) from Western Illinois University. He is a member of SEG, AAPG, SPE, PESGB, and PESA and is a Fellow of the Energy Institute (UK).</p>

<p>There are various kinds of geophysical data available. They are separated into seismic and non-seismic (multi-physics) data. Non-seismic or multi-physics data (which includes gravity, magnetics, electrical, electromagnetics, spectral etc - apart from providing complimentary information to seismic) is the main source of information for very shallow subsurface applications such as engineering, mapping pollution, archaeology, geothermal energy, and related areas. This 5 full-day blended course will focus specifically on seismic data which is the main method used in the Oil &amp; Gas industry.</p>
<p>In this blended course, participants will be equipped to understand that seismic data represents the movement of the surface, resulting from waves generated by a source, dynamite or vibrator which are reflected by changes in the subsurface rocks. The basic principles of acquisition and processing will be explained and insights into advanced methods, allowing a much more accurate interpretation of seismic data than previously considered possible, will also be provided.</p>
<p>This blended course contains an introduction to Machine Learning and its important role in all aspects of seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation. There is no need to know in detail how the algorithms work internally but it is necessary to know how to use them correctly to achieve optimum results.</p>

<p>Your expert course leader has degree in Geology (University of Leiden), a Master's degree in Theoretical Geophysics (University of Utrecht) and a PhD in Utrecht on 'Full wave theory and the structure of the lower mantle'. This involved forward modelling of P- and S-waves diffracted around the core-mantle boundary and comparison of the frequency-dependent attenuation of the signal with those obtained from major earthquakes observed at long offsets in the 'shadow zone' of the core. These observations were then translated into rock properties of the D' transition zone.</p>
<p>After his PhD, he joined Shell Research in The Netherlands to develop methods to predict lithology and pore-fluid based on seismic, petrophysical and geological data. He subsequently worked for Shell in London to interpret seismic data from the Central North Sea Graben. As part of the Quantitative Interpretation assignment, he was also actively involved in managing, processing and interpreting Offshore Seismic Profiling experiments.</p>
<p>After his return to The Netherlands, he headed a team for the development of 3D interpretation methods using multi-attribute statistical and pattern recognition analysis on workstations. After a period of Quality Assurance of 'Contractor' software for seismic processing, he became responsible for Geophysics in the Shell Learning Centre. During that period, he was also a part-time professor in Applied Geophysics at the University of Utrecht.</p>
<p>From 2001 to 2005, he worked on the development of Potential Field Methods (Gravity, Magnetics) for detecting oil and gas. Finally, he became a champion on the use of EM methods and became involved in designing acquisition, processing and interpretation methods for Marine Controlled Source EM (CSEM) methods.</p>
<p>After his retirement from Shell, he founded his own company, specialising in courses on acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical data (seismic, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic data), providing courses to International and National energy companies.</p>
<p>In the last couple of years, he became keenly interested in the use of Machine Learning in Geophysics. Apart from incorporating 'Artificial Intelligence' in his courses, he also developed a dedicated Machine Learning course for geophysics.</p>

<p>Electrification of the transportation sector will impact the power system in several ways. Besides the additional load, local impact on the grid needs to be managed by the grid operators. Simultaneously charging of many electric vehicles (EVs) might exceed the limits in specific locations. On the other hand, EVs can provide flexibility and other ancillary services that will help grid operators.</p>
<p>This 3 half-day VILT course will provide a complete overview of integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into the power grid. It will cover the whole value chain from grid operations to the car battery. This includes the control room, possible grid reinforcement, demand side management and power electronics.</p>
<p>This course will demonstrate the impact on the grid and solutions for a safe &amp; cost-effective grid plan and operation, with examples of successful integration of EVs.</p>
<p>The course will also provide vital knowledge about technology used for EVs such as power electronics, demand side management, communication and batteries. In this context, the focus will be on power electronics as it has the highest impact on the grid. The grid planning tool, pandapower, is introduced as an open source tool for power system modelling.</p>
<p>The set-up of the training course allows for discussion and questions. Questions can be formulated by the participants upfront or during the training.</p>

<p>Our first course expert is Head of Department Converters and Electrical Drive Systems at Fraunhofer IEE and Professor for Electromobility and Electrical Infrastructure at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. He received his engineering degree in automation in 2008 by the THM Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (FH Giessen-Friedberg). Afterwards he studied power engineering at University of Kassel and received his diploma certificate in 2010. In 2016 he received the Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) from the University of Hannover. The title of his dissertation is Optimized multifunctional bi-directional charger for electric vehicles. He has been a researcher at the Fraunhofer IEE in Kassel since 2010 and deals with power converters for electric vehicles, photovoltaics and wind energy. His current research interests include the bidirectional inductive power transfer, battery charger and inverter as well as new power electronic components such as SiC MOSFETs and chokes. Additionally, our key expert is Chairman of the IEEE Joint IAS/PELS/IES German Chapter and a member of the International Scientific Committee of the EPE Association.</p>
<p>Our second course expert is deputy head of energy storage department at Fraunhofer IEE. Prior to this he was the Director of Grid Integration department at SMA Solar Technology AG, one of the world's largest manufacturers of PV power converters. Before joining SMA, our course expert was manager of the Front Office System Planning at Amprion GmbH (formerly RWE TSO), one of the four German transmission system operators. He holds a degree of electrical engineering of the University of Kassel, Germany. In 2003 he finished his Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) on the topic of wind power forecasting at the 'Institute of Solar Energy Supply Technology' (now Fraunhofer IEE) in Kassel. In 2004 he started his career at RWE TSO with main focus on wind power integration and congestion management. Our course expert is chairman of the IEC SC 8A 'Grid Integration of Large-capacity Renewable Energy (RE) Generation' and has published several papers about grid integration of renewable energy source and forecasting systems on books, magazines, international conferences and workshops.</p>
<p>Our third course expert is Research Associate at Fraunhofer IEE. He is actively working on different projects related to the integration of electric vehicle charging into the electric distribution grid. The focus of this work concerns time series based simulations for grid planning and operation in order to investigate the effect of a future rollout of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure on economics e.g. costs for grid reinforcement. He completed his master degree (MSc.) in Business Administration and Engineering: Electrical Power Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, Germany.</p>

The course will concentrate on the important aspects of completion design and what makes a safe and efficient well.</p>

The case study is based around data all taken from a single field where those attending will work through all the basic issues of a completion design. However, at the start of the next day, the case study is reviewed and discussed. The whole case study will continue through all sessions, with each element being reviewed at the start of the next session. He was previously involved in research on power generation equipment with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited at their Chalk River and Whiteshell Nuclear Research Laboratories.</p>
<p>While working at OPG, he acted as a Training Manager, Engineering Supervisor, System Responsible Engineer and Design Engineer. During the period of time, he worked as a Field Engineer and Design Engineer, he was responsible for the operation, maintenance, diagnostics, and testing of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, motors, transformers, inverters, valves, pumps, compressors, instrumentation and control systems. Further, his responsibilities included designing, engineering, diagnosing equipment problems and recommending solutions to repair deficiencies and improve system performance, supervising engineers, setting up preventive maintenance programs, writing Operating and Design Manuals, and commissioning new equipment.</p>
<p>Later, he worked as the manager of a section dedicated to providing training for the staff at the power stations. The training provided by him covered in detail the various equipment and systems used in power stations.</p>
<p>In addition, he has taught courses and seminars to more than four thousand working engineers and professionals around the world, specifically Europe and North America. He has been consistently ranked as 'Excellent' or 'Very Good' by the delegates who attended his seminars and lectures.</p>

<p>This 5 full-day course will cover all aspects of steam turbines including design and features of modern turbines, material, rotor balancing, features enhancing the reliability and maintainability of steam turbines, rotor dynamic analysis, Campbell, Goodman and SAFE diagrams, Blade failures: causes and solutions, maintenance and overhaul of steam turbines, and modeling of steam turbines. This course will also cover in detail all the components of these turbines, instrumentation, control systems, governing systems, and selection criteria.</p>

M02 - Aspirated and Vacuated Systems:
Open systems (Syringe & Needle), closed systems (Vacutainer & Monovette), Alternative closed systems, Using Monovette - aspiration and evacuated techniques, monovette adapter systems.
M03 - Specialised and Advanced Phlebotomy Equipment:
The centrifuge - overview. Safe operation and use. Managing a centrifuge breakage or spillage.
Equipment and practices in unusual situations.
Patients with special needs and requiring specific attention.
Equipment preparation for blood samples that are collected at
0 degrees, 37 degrees C and other non-standard conditions.
A look at advances in technology and how to use the latest devices.
M04 - Point of Care Testing:
What is POC Testing? Advantages, Disadvantages and Clinical
Outcomes. Comparison of POC with lab testing. 10 common POC tests. Roles for phlebotomists performing POC Tests.
M05 - Neonates and Children:
Sample collection from new-born to pre-adult. A detailed overview of legal principles of law including child consent and child protection for phlebotomists. Neonatal and child blood collection equipment.
A comprehensive look at heel and finger-prick procedures including
microtainers, lancets and capillary tube collection. Detailed heel prick procedure. Paediatric finger prick collection. The life-threatening hazard of over-collecting. Communication techniques in differing age bands.
Consent and the law. Basic principles of lawful consent for neonates and paediatric patients. Child protection.
Detailed analysis of neonatal and paediatric blood collection including Guthrie card collection. Neonatal bottles - colours and tests. Paediatric blood gases collection.
Butterfly needles - when to use. Blood tests during pregnancy. Neonatal blood screening - nine conditions covered. Bilirubin in neonates.
M06 - Geriatric Patients:
The challenges of phlebotomy in older people. Understanding skin changes and venepuncture implications. A profile of common
geriatric blood tests. Age related problems. Procedural precautions.
M07 - Special Procedures:
Drawing blood from back of hand. Drawing blood from lower limb veins. Managing the unwilling or difficult patient. Managing the psychiatric patient. Managing the isolated patient. Non-routine blood tests. Managing the latex allergy patient (type 1 and type 4 reactions). Latex indicators. Sample handling - non-routine procedures. Drug trials and research projects.
M08 - Special Tests and Sample Handling Procedures:
A look at sample collection at specific times of day and night,
samples that are protected from light, collected on ice and
collected at body temperature. Procedures for each group - collection notes, analytic time, optimal collection time and notes for each group.
M09 - Advanced Phlebotomy Tasks:
Additional procedures. Maintaining POC equipment. Stock control and stock rotation. Quality control. Data entry. Product evaluation. Training and competency evaluation.
M10 - Alternative Environments:
A step-by-step look at non-clinical phlebotomy environments including private testing, DEFRA, forensic and police, cord blood collection, DNA analysis, veterinary services, overseas and volunteering.

PART 2 (CLASSROOM)
MORNING , AFTERNOON OR EVENING SESSION:

1 - Welcome, introductions and overview:
- Classroom - health & safety briefing, schedule overview.
- Virtual Classroom - audio/visual checks and registration. Unpacking and overview of your training kit.
2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

Fundamentals and Classics
Every Weds 6.30-7.30pm (UK time) from 26 Sept - 12 Dec (no class 17 Oct)
This autumn, we will be going back to exploring fundamental functions and relationships within our selves and our movement through the Feldenkrais Method, encountering classic lessons and discovering new ways to understand ourselves in action.
Each week we will encounter a different function or aspect that is key to our sense of being able to move with ease and freedom through our lives. For instance, we will explore our ability to turn through our spine, to round, extend or bend, as well as enlarging our repertoire of possibilities - looking to move with pleasure and reversibility. 
The first few lessons will explore Fundamental Functions. There will be an early 'half-term' the week of 17th Oct, and then the following weeks we will move through a series of outstanding Classic lessons, that will be useful to return to for yourself.
Audio recordings of each class are available afterwards, so you don't have to attend the class in person, if you can't make that evening.

Those were favorites for her as a teenager but she wants new takes&ndash;&ndash;LGBT characters, diverse backgrounds, complex character development and a deep-dive into what it means to be a teenager in the current world. Give her relatability that doesn&rsquo;t sacrifice a character&rsquo;s unique traits. She is looking for the middle ground between the manic pixie dream girl and the buttoned-up character who just needs to take off their glasses.</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">In&nbsp;<b fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;"><i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">New Adult</i></b>, Isabel is a big fan of authors like Elle Kennedy, C. W. Farnsworth, Elsie Silver and Morgan Elizabeth. BookTok romances are the perfect escapism for readers of all ages but especially for college students and young professionals like myself. Her all-time favorite tropes are Grumpy/Sunshine, Fall First/Fall Harder and all the Spice! She is not a fan of cheating storylines, accidental pregnancy, step-sibling romance or unnecessary miscommunication tropes.&nbsp;</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;"><b fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Romantasy</b></i> &ndash;&ndash; Send her romance with sufficient fantasy worldbuilding. The romantic plot should be the main event but the worldbuilding needs to be able to stand up to scrutiny. The reader should accept the customs and specifics of your fantasy without too much confusion. Recent titles Isabel has loved include <i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Fourth Wing</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">League of Gentleman Witches</i>.&nbsp;</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" id="isPasted" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">As for the romance, Isabel loves tropes (especially: Enemies to Lovers, Who Hurt You?), morally grey characters and kick-ass heroines. She loves training montages and dueling as foreplay. Show her spice during high-pressure situations, quick kisses stolen in battlefields, and fantastic banter. She would also love a return to the paranormal romances that dominated the 2010s. Think the 2020s twist on <i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Twilight</i>,&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Beautiful Creatures</i>,&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Shiver</i>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Vampire Academy</i>. Isabel is most definitely on the hunt for Romantasy and paranormal romance featuring queer and underrepresented voices.</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><b fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;"><i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Fantasy</i></b> &ndash;&ndash; The worldbuilding absolutely must be believable and purposeful. Fantasy should be a mirror held up to the real world, offering a differing perspective that allows us to examine something about ourselves or our lives in a new light. Isabel has a masters degree in Fantasy from the University of Glasgow so can be a bit of a stickler when it comes to this! The magic/training/military school trope has been nearly exhausted, so be creative with the setting. Her favorite fantasy author is Tamora Pierce - she would love a &ldquo;girl has to pretend to be a boy to get her knighthood&rdquo; storyline that Pierce couldn&rsquo;t do in the 80s such as LGBT representation (although Alanna was definitely gender fluid and Kel was 100% ace), a deeper dive into the social and political implications (no white saviorism!) and more spice. Some of her other favorite fantasy novels include <i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Howl&rsquo;s Moving Castle</i>,&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Good Omens,</i>&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Kindred</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Golden Compass</i>. Isabel does not want Tolkien-esque hard worldbuilding with 100k+ quests; instead focus on the pacing and how it can grab the reader. She wants a fantasy plot that compels me to keep reading even if it&rsquo;s past her bedtime! She adores fairytale retellings, dark fantasy, alternate histories and historical fantasy, and the occasional steampunk/dystopia.</p><p style=" color: rgb(122, 122, 122);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(122, 122, 122);"><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); box-sizing: border-box;" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">When not working, Isabel can usually be found reading or wandering a bookstore. Born to two bibliophiles, Isabel Lineberry could not have grown up to be anything else. She was born and raised in the Southwest United States but always knew she wanted to move to the UK. In high school she set her sights on a job in the publishing industry and hasn’t blinked since.

Those were favorites for her as a teenager but she wants new takes––LGBT characters, diverse backgrounds, complex character development and a deep-dive into what it means to be a teenager in the current world. Give her relatability that doesn’t sacrifice a character’s unique traits. She is looking for the middle ground between the manic pixie dream girl and the buttoned-up character who just needs to take off their glasses.
In New Adult, Isabel is a big fan of authors like Elle Kennedy, C. W. Farnsworth, Elsie Silver and Morgan Elizabeth. BookTok romances are the perfect escapism for readers of all ages but especially for college students and young professionals like myself. Her all-time favorite tropes are Grumpy/Sunshine, Fall First/Fall Harder and all the Spice! She is not a fan of cheating storylines, accidental pregnancy, step-sibling romance or unnecessary miscommunication tropes. 
Romantasy –– Send her romance with sufficient fantasy worldbuilding. The romantic plot should be the main event but the worldbuilding needs to be able to stand up to scrutiny. The reader should accept the customs and specifics of your fantasy without too much confusion. Recent titles Isabel has loved include Fourth Wing and League of Gentleman Witches. 
As for the romance, Isabel loves tropes (especially: Enemies to Lovers, Who Hurt You?), morally grey characters and kick-ass heroines. She loves training montages and dueling as foreplay. Show her spice during high-pressure situations, quick kisses stolen in battlefields, and fantastic banter. She would also love a return to the paranormal romances that dominated the 2010s. Think the 2020s twist on Twilight, Beautiful Creatures, Shiver or Vampire Academy. Isabel is most definitely on the hunt for Romantasy and paranormal romance featuring queer and underrepresented voices.
Fantasy –– The worldbuilding absolutely must be believable and purposeful. Fantasy should be a mirror held up to the real world, offering a differing perspective that allows us to examine something about ourselves or our lives in a new light. Isabel has a masters degree in Fantasy from the University of Glasgow so can be a bit of a stickler when it comes to this! The magic/training/military school trope has been nearly exhausted, so be creative with the setting. Her favorite fantasy author is Tamora Pierce - she would love a “girl has to pretend to be a boy to get her knighthood” storyline that Pierce couldn’t do in the 80s such as LGBT representation (although Alanna was definitely gender fluid and Kel was 100% ace), a deeper dive into the social and political implications (no white saviorism!) and more spice. Some of her other favorite fantasy novels include Howl’s Moving Castle, Good Omens, Kindred and Golden Compass. Isabel does not want Tolkien-esque hard worldbuilding with 100k+ quests; instead focus on the pacing and how it can grab the reader. She wants a fantasy plot that compels me to keep reading even if it’s past her bedtime! She adores fairytale retellings, dark fantasy, alternate histories and historical fantasy, and the occasional steampunk/dystopia.
