Hertfordshire-based BE-A Education is the operator of the highly successful and fast-growing New Skills Academy and Staff Skills Training businesses with a mission to make learning accessible to consumers and businesses globally. To date, the award-winning company has sold nearly 1 million courses to consumers in over 30 countries. The strategic investment, in partnership with BE-A’s founders, marks a new phase in BE-A’s continuing mission to bring affordable and accessible upskilling courses to consumers and businesses globally through its direct-to-consumer platform, New Skills Academy, and its SME-focused business platform, Staff Skills Training. Addition Capital’s acquisition was part financed through an undisclosed commercial loan from Shawbrook Bank. Chris Morgan, Co-Founder of BE-A, said: “My brother Dan and I founded BE-A to help people to access training and improve their job prospects. A BAFTA-award winning digital producer, Ian was the CEO of Guardian Australia and then returned to the UK to lead Guardian Media Group’s Corporate Development, where he oversaw Guardian Masterclasses, an international education programme spanning both in-person and online formats. In autumn 2022, we published our review of evidence on how a woman’s risk of dying after a breast cancer diagnosis is affected by her weight, diet and physical activity. We translate the results of our research into accurate, accessible, easy-to-understand information. By funding research and delivering health information programmes – such as Living with cancer, for cancer survivors, and Eat Move Learn for children and families – we empower people to make healthier lifestyle choices. When World Cancer Research Fund was established, scientific research into the links between diet and cancer was in its infancy. Since then, our network has funded millions in cancer prevention research and awareness-raising programmes. The Walking with Giants Foundation was founded by Sue and John Connerty in 2008. In 2005, their son Alex was born with an unknown condition, however just over a year later he was pre-diagnosed with a condition called Microcephalic Primordial Dwarfism Type II, their son’s doctors at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool explained that he was the first child to be pre-diagnosed with the condition in the UK. At the time there was little information the doctors could give them about Alex’s condition and many questions asked by Sue and John were left unanswered. For their son, Alex, the condition meant that he spent a lot of time in hospital with serious health issues. In those first years of bewilderment and anxiety, John and Sue set on a mission to find out more information. In July 2007, Sue, John and Alex went to America on a journey of discovery that would change their lives positively forever. They got to meet other parents and children with the same or similar condition as Alex. Furthermore, they got to meet the few medical experts in the world who had experience, knowledge and understanding of Microcephalic Primordial Dwarfism Type II. Not all their questions were answered but they received enough information to allow them to care for Alex and move forward!
