My name is Mary Dawes. I am a BACP registered and accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist. I trained at the Wealden Institute, where I gained a Diploma in Counselling and studied Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy. I am an approved adoption counsellor registered through Barnardo's LINK Adoption Support Service, and I am a trained Cruse bereavement counsellor. I worked for five years with male survivors of sexual abuse at Mankind, a charity in Hove, and as a volunteer counsellor at Open Door, a project for 13-25 year olds in Eastbourne, for six years. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I work within their Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions. I do not believe that there is a typical person or client, only that there are people who are in distress and are searching for help. I believe that “the relationship” between client and counsellor is at the heart of the work that I do, and it is this relationship that ultimately heals and promotes most growth and well being in a client. My approach is Person Centred and Integrative, as I believe that no one approach fits all. Therefore I draw on a variety of theoretical and creative methods. She founded Devoted to Rest + Starshine & Clay Online Yoga and Meditation Studio for Black Women and Women of Color. Within her rest and work she threads poetry, prayer, and time tested practices into a blanket of experience under which individuals can gather and rebuke stress, fatigue, and burnout. The foundation of Octavia’s rest work is Black Church (rooted in the South USA), restorative yoga, Yoga Nidra, and meditation. Her deepest offerings lead driven, ambitious, visionary, and highly impactful women to awaken the fullness of their wisdom, power, and clarity through rest. Octavia has over 20 years of experience and well over 10,000 hours of designing and delivering classes, restshops, workshops, immersions, and trainings that transform, heal, and restore individuals and organizations. In 2021 Yoga Journal magazine recognized Octavia as one of fifteen experienced yoga professionals who have elevated and changed the field on a global scale. Healing with Yoga for embodied living with Pippa Graham is Yoga taken gently and deeply, guiding you home to your whole self.  I offer enjoyable, transformative Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation for beginners and improvers.  I run workshops in North London, regular weekly zoom/in-person classes for Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation, zoom courses for Yoga and Mindfulness and one-to-one Yoga on zoom/in-person.   I have been teaching for 30 years and although I draw on many different resources, my work is Scaravelli inspired and deeply somatic. By this I mean, you don't have to be able to touch your toes and get everything right!  Whilst I give clear and detailed instructions, you are invited to simply feel and experience what is happening in your body as we move or sit.  This is about moving into your own presence, out of your head and into your heart. I also integrate Energy Medicine inspired by Prune Harris and Donna Eden.  I have trained with the Inner Yoga Trust, Birthlight and Mindfulness CIC and have practiced yoga since I was a teenager.

This effect reduces cortisol that is created by stress & elevates dopamine levels improving creative problem solving. She is inspired by Positive Psychology concepts such as Post Traumatic Growth, Broaden & Build theory informed by colour psychology. Her inspiration for colours come from the nature. The layering is informed by the complex nature of human beings. She has most recently attended O.Z.O.R.A. international music festival in Hungary, delivering her signature Positive Psychology Infused Art Workshops 'Paint with Intention' and 'Kids Painting Club'. Her work has very recently featured in British Vogue, London Life & Tatler. She is also part of The World of Interiors spring campaign in their March, April & May issue 2021. She is currently a self represented artist.

People’s fears of rejection, difference and the unknown are causing a lot of problems at the moment. For society to change we need to empower individuals. Plight Club's mission is to change the attitude towards vulnerability to increase real human connection. Ultimately, to break down barriers in the world and reduce the ‘them vs us’ culture that is holding us back. This change starts by encouraging people to talk to each other and also enabling them with the tools to be able to express how they feel in turn, connect on a deeper level. The plight of life is true for every single person. We are in this together. There's a long road ahead of us but a movement starts with one step (from a lot of people).
