He has more than 30 years' experience with Shell International, followed by 10 years consulting to NOCs in Asia Pacific, Africa and South America and independent oil companies in the United Kingdom, continental Europe and North America.</p>
<p>Other than delivering industry training, he has worked on projects for oil &amp; gas companies of all sizes, including independents, national oil companies and (super)-majors, private equity firms, hedge funds and investment banks, and leading management consulting  firms.</p>

<p>Additionally, he was appointed Shell's Regional Turnaround Advisor within Australia and South East Asia supporting Shell Operating Companies throughout several Australasian and European sites. In more recent times, he had been engaged to implement and establish a formal Turnaround Management program within Brunei Shell Petroleum as well as becoming the appointed Regional Turnaround Management Subject Matter Expert (SME), TA Network and Governance &amp; Assurance lead for Shell within the Shell Australasian, Russian Federation and Indian Sub-Continent OpCo community.</p>

This 5-day training course covers the principles and practices of directional drilling, calculations and planning for directional and horizontal wells. Specific problems associated with directional and horizontal drilling such as torque, drag, hole cleaning, logging and bottom hole assembly design, are included. The use of downhole motors, rotating and non-rotating steerable systems as well as the conventional rotary applications will be explained. Students will learn to design and evaluate a horizontal well based on the objectives for that well. Furthermore the students will get the basics of multilateral wells.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Additionally the participants will become familiar with tools and techniques used in surveying a directional or horizontal well. The last part of the course includes an exercise where the students have to drill a pre-planned well on a computer simulator. The software simulates a conventional rotary rig, equipped with two National 12P160 mud pumps and a complete mud treatment system. All required drilling equipment such as drill bits, drill pipe, drill collars, survey systems, downhole motors are available. The student will have to analyse the planned well and decide what type of assembly to use for the section to be drilled. This can be a conventional rotary assembly, a motor and a bent sub, a steerable system and even medium radius tools. The student will have to make up a correct BHA, run it in the hole, take a survey (with MWD or with gyro or single shot), orient his assembly and start drilling.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">As in real life and when using an MWD, the student can keep track of the tool face orientation and the hole direction together with the inclination. The student can stop drilling at any time to orient or to take a survey. At regular intervals the student will take a survey, the computer calculates the data and the student has to plot the result on the well plan, which the student will receive in an A0 format. The software will keep track of the drilling cost and the drilling time. At the end of the exercise the results of the different groups will be compared.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">The training instructor relies on a highly interactive training method to enhance the learning process. <p>Your specialist course leader has more than 32 years of practical engineering experience with Ontario Power Generation (OPG), one of the largest electric utility in North America. He was previously involved in research on power generation equipment with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited at their Chalk River and Whiteshell Nuclear Research Laboratories. While working at OPG, he acted as a Training Manager, Engineering Supervisor, System Responsible Engineer and Design Engineer. During the period of time, he worked as a Field Engineer and Design Engineer, he was responsible for the operation, maintenance, diagnostics, and testing of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, motors, transformers, inverters, valves, pumps, compressors, instrumentation and control systems. Further, his responsibilities included designing, engineering, diagnosing equipment problems and recommending solutions to repair deficiencies and improve system performance, supervising engineers, setting up preventive maintenance programs, writing Operating and Design Manuals, and commissioning new equipment. Later, he worked as the manager of a section dedicated to providing training for the staff at the power stations. The training provided by him covered in detail the various equipment and systems used in power stations. In addition, he has taught courses and seminars to more than four thousand working engineers and professionals around the world, specifically Europe and North America. He has been consistently ranked as 'Excellent' or 'Very Good' by the delegates who attended his seminars and lectures. A comprehensive assessment is the most effective method of determining the root cause of a failure. For example, a tube failure in a boiler is usually a symptom of other problems. To fully understand the root cause of the failure, one must investigate all aspects of boiler operation leading to the failure in addition to evaluating the failure itself. <p>Your specialist course leader has more than 32 years of practical engineering experience with Ontario Power Generation (OPG), one of the largest electric utility in North America. He was previously involved in research on power generation equipment with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited at their Chalk River and Whiteshell Nuclear Research Laboratories.</p>
<p>While working at OPG, he acted as a Training Manager, Engineering Supervisor, System Responsible Engineer and Design Engineer. During the period of time, he worked as a Field Engineer and Design Engineer, he was responsible for the operation, maintenance, diagnostics, and testing of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, motors, transformers, inverters, valves, pumps, compressors, instrumentation and control systems. Further, his responsibilities included designing, engineering, diagnosing equipment problems and recommending solutions to repair deficiencies and improve system performance, supervising engineers, setting up preventive maintenance programs, writing Operating and Design Manuals, and commissioning new equipment.</p>
<p>Later, he worked as the manager of a section dedicated to providing training for the staff at the power stations. The training provided by him covered in detail the various equipment and systems used in power stations.</p>
<p>In addition, he has taught courses and seminars to more than four thousand working engineers and professionals around the world, specifically Europe and North America. He has been consistently ranked as 'Excellent' or 'Very Good' by the delegates who attended his seminars and lectures.</p>
<p>He written 5 books for working engineers from which 3 have been published by McGraw-Hill, New York. Below is a list of the books authored by him;</p>

<p>Well engineers who are responsible for technically evaluating and authorizing programs for drilling or working over wells must have the required skills and competencies to safely design wells of varying nature. They also need to be able to confirm that well delivery and intervention programs generate intrinsic well control assurance. Such work programs must establish, verify, monitor and maintain suitable and sufficient barriers for the entire well lifecycle - from spud to abandonment. Well engineers must also be able to select a suitable drilling or workover rig, capable of safely performing the work within its operational envelope.</p>
<p>This 3 full-day course aims to further develop and assess the knowledge required to work on and eventually, authorize a well delivery program as deemed fit for purpose. It also addresses elements of well control that must be embedded into well design, well work programming and equipment selection.</p>

<p>Your expert course leader has over 45 years of experience in the Oil &amp; Gas industry. During that time, he has worked exclusively in the well engineering domain. After being employed in 1974 by Shell, one of the major oil &amp; gas producing operators, he worked as an apprentice on drilling rigs in the Netherlands. After a year, he was sent for his first international assignment to the Sultanate of Oman where he climbed up the career ladder from Assistant Driller, to Driller, to wellsite Petroleum Engineer and eventually on-site Drilling Supervisor, actively engaged in the drilling of development and exploration wells in almost every corner of this vast desert area. At that time, drilling techniques were fairly basic and safety was just a buzz word, but such a situation propels learning and the fruits of 'doing-the-basics' are still reaped today when standing in front of a class. After some seven years in the Middle East, a series of other international assignments followed in places like the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Turkey, Denmark, China, Malaysia, and Russia. Apart from on-site drilling supervisory jobs on various types of drilling rigs (such as helicopter rigs) and working environments (such as jungle and artic), he was also assigned to research, to projects and to the company's learning centre. In research, he was responsible for promoting directional drilling and surveying and advised on the first horizontal wells being drilled, in projects, he was responsible for a high pressure drilling campaign in Nigeria while in the learning centre, he looked after the development of new engineers joining the company after graduating from university. He was also involved in international well control certification and served as chairman for a period of three years. In the last years of his active career, he worked again in China as a staff development manager, a position he nurtured because he was able to pass on his knowledge to a vast number of new employees once again. After retiring in 2015, he has delivered well engineering related courses in Australia, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Thailand, India, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, The Netherlands, and the United States. The training he provides includes well control to obtain certification in drilling and well intervention, extended reach drilling, high pressure-high temperature drilling, stuck pipe prevention and a number of other ad-hoc courses. He thoroughly enjoys training and is keen to continue taking classes as an instructor for some time to come.</p>

How do I attend?

EITHER -
CLASSROOM OPTION - Attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Introduction to Phlebotomy Course over 2 days. You will also complete your Advanced Training at the end of the first day and your Competency Training at the end of the second day.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

OR -

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. You have the option to add a classroom-based competency session, awarding a CPD Accredited Geopace Certificate of Competency, at time of booking.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your introductory course and one for your advanced course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 each) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses. The equipment and supplies included in your kits are the same as those used if you choose the classroom option.

You will receive a voucher code to enable you to book onto any upcoming dates or locations. For most of our two day course we run our competency training at the end of the second day and therefore you should be able to complete your full training programme with us over two days.

Recap of basic phlebotomy theory and practice - precursor to
the advanced course.
M02 - Aspirated and Vacuated Systems:
Open systems (Syringe & Needle), closed systems (Vacutainer & Monovette), Alternative closed systems, Using Monovette - aspiration and evacuated techniques, monovette adapter systems.
M03 - Specialised and Advanced Phlebotomy Equipment:
The centrifuge - overview. Safe operation and use. Managing a centrifuge breakage or spillage.
Equipment and practices in unusual situations.
Patients with special needs and requiring specific attention.
Equipment preparation for blood samples that are collected at
0 degrees, 37 degrees C and other non-standard conditions.
A look at advances in technology and how to use the latest devices.
M04 - Point of Care Testing:
What is POC Testing? Advantages, Disadvantages and Clinical
Outcomes. Comparison of POC with lab testing. 10 common POC tests. Roles for phlebotomists performing POC Tests.
M05 - Neonates and Children:
Sample collection from new-born to pre-adult. A detailed overview of legal principles of law including child consent and child protection for phlebotomists. Neonatal and child blood collection equipment.
A comprehensive look at heel and finger-prick procedures including
microtainers, lancets and capillary tube collection. Detailed heel prick procedure. Paediatric finger prick collection. The life-threatening hazard of over-collecting. Communication techniques in differing age bands.
Consent and the law. Basic principles of lawful consent for neonates and paediatric patients. Child protection.
Detailed analysis of neonatal and paediatric blood collection including Guthrie card collection. Neonatal bottles - colours and tests. Paediatric blood gases collection.
Butterfly needles - when to use. Blood tests during pregnancy. Neonatal blood screening - nine conditions covered. Bilirubin in neonates.
M06 - Geriatric Patients:
The challenges of phlebotomy in older people. Understanding skin changes and venepuncture implications. A profile of common
geriatric blood tests. Age related problems. Procedural precautions.
M07 - Special Procedures:
Drawing blood from back of hand. Drawing blood from lower limb veins. Managing the unwilling or difficult patient. Managing the psychiatric patient. Managing the isolated patient. Non-routine blood tests. Managing the latex allergy patient (type 1 and type 4 reactions). Latex indicators. Sample handling - non-routine procedures. Drug trials and research projects.
M08 - Special Tests and Sample Handling Procedures:
A look at sample collection at specific times of day and night,
samples that are protected from light, collected on ice and
collected at body temperature. Procedures for each group - collection notes, analytic time, optimal collection time and notes for each group.
M09 - Advanced Phlebotomy Tasks:
Additional procedures. Maintaining POC equipment. Stock control and stock rotation. Quality control. Data entry. Product evaluation. Training and competency evaluation.
M10 - Alternative Environments:
A step-by-step look at non-clinical phlebotomy environments including private testing, DEFRA, forensic and police, cord blood collection, DNA analysis, veterinary services, overseas and volunteering.

MORNING , AFTERNOON OR EVENING SESSION:

1 - Welcome, introductions and overview:
- Classroom - health & safety briefing, schedule overview.
- Virtual Classroom - audio/visual checks and registration. Unpacking and overview of your training kit.
2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

This course is supported with downloadable resources and may include extra video segments to reinforce your practical training.

We take a look at all essential equipment required for PIVC.

Our Peripheral IV Cannulation Course and Injection Course training kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available for you to add at time of booking. Training kits mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video instructions, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for your one full day to complete your cannulation and injection course training.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your cannulation course and one for your injection course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 and £39.95 respectively) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses.
