At Stride Active we want to inspire active futures. Put simply, we want to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to be physically active and most importantly, enjoy it! We are the only organisation in Herefordshire dedicated to young people’s physical activity. As experts in in PE, school sport and physical activity, we advocate the benefits of this to support all young people, be it physically, mentally or socially. It is our belief that if we can create the right experiences for children, they will remain active throughout their adult lives. Stride Active is a not-for-profit organisation; our work is divided through two organisational ‘arms’ – Whitecross School and Stride Active Community Interest Company (CIC). We are hosted by Whitecross High School, but operate independently to support schools and organisations across Herefordshire and beyond. We have over 14 years’ experience in sharing our PE expertise with schools. We do this through a range of CPD and training opportunities. Alongside this, we also specialise in physical activity, health and wellbeing through the CIC. All of our work aims to address rising obesity and inactivity rates in children.

I’ve set up a community interest company to offer coaching and support to people, including those who wouldn’t normally consider it or be able to access it. This can help them to gain clarity about what they want, increase their resilience and develop an action plan for their future. It’s about 10 years since I first had some coaching sessions, to help me find a new direction after redundancy. I really appreciated being able to confide in someone who was independent of my life, yet committed to my progress. It was very satisfying to have the space to consider what really mattered to me and to explore my hopes and fears. I started to see my situation differently and began to trust myself to follow the direction that seemed to be beckoning me. Years later, a chance opportunity to go to a taster session in coach training led me to enrol on the course, followed by a course in Advanced Coaching Skills. This has helped me to build on the experience I’ve gained in working with people over the course of my career and apply my learning to help others. I’ve worked in a range of interesting projects over the years: Talking to people to find out how work affects their health and helping to reduce the impactChalk heart on bench Evaluating how engaging in live music can help people in healthcare settings Working with voluntary organisations to develop new strategies Implementing research to improve the health of patient groups Interviewing prisoners about their health and social care needs Supporting those with a health condition or disability to find training, volunteering or employment I’ve seen and experienced the benefits that coaching can bring, and look forward to reaching out to people who want to change their life, enabling them to look inside for their own inspiration.

It has been established since 1981 and delivers programmes for individuals and employers across the Greater Merseyside area. Rocket Training has a strong reputation across the region for the quality of our programmes. Liverpool Law Society boasts 2500 or so members in practice; it is one of the largest local Law Societies in England and Wales. Membership is broad and varies from practitioners engaged in high-value commercial work to complex charity work. The Society prides itself in being at the forefront of debate and has been able to communicate on behalf of its members their concerns in a number of areas both public and professional, and at regional and national levels. The directors meet twice a year with local MPs where there is exchange of information, news about bills going through parliament and constituent issues are raised and discussed and parliamentary questions are put down on behalf of LLS members. Separately, the directors also meet with the nominated councillors from the Liverpool City Region local authorities. This again is a useful way of ensuring our members’ concerns and issues, including those of their clients, can be raised at one of these meetings. The councillors also come to the Society with matters their constituents are facing and we work together on joint initiatives where there is a common aim. The Society also has good communication channels with The Law Society, the SRA and the LeO, where members’ issues can be raised and matters affecting the legal profession discussed. On a regional level, Liverpool Law Society is a member of the Joint V, a grouping of autonomous local law societies that meet and discuss common issues affecting membership organisations for legal professionals, sharing best practice. The members of the Joint V are Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester Law Societies. United the Joint V have a strong voice nationally, representing over 10,000 legal professionals. In addition to our representation role, Liverpool Law Society runs an extensive legal training programme with approximately 100 seminars and conferences organised every year in various specialist areas of law.
