Giving is part of the fabric of our community at TSP and what makes our school so special. Our staff give their time and expertise to create a memorable education for our children, and the children give so much energy and enthusiasm to their work. We would also like to invite members of the wider TSP community to give time, talent or treasure, however they can, in support of our school to make a direct difference to our children’s lives. Recent projects that have been supported / funded include: · Contributing to the refurbishment of the Hall through purchasing a new projector and speakers · Improving year 3 and 4 classrooms · Sourcing new ICT equipment · Extra workshops to further enhance the school’s curriculum The school’s current focus is on: · enhancing the Year 1 playground area. This small, contained area is very tired and in need of some improvements to create a stimulating, engaging space for play. Your contributions will make a difference every day for the children who pass through year 1 each year. · improving the Key Stage 1 playground which is a thoroughfare for the school and is also used as the play area for Clubhouse, our wrap around care service. · Following the refurbishment of the school hall which has improved central space for the children to use throughout the day, to now also upgrade the sound and lighting equipment which would further enhance our school performances and workshops. We aim to raise a minimum of £5,000 each academic year to support projects such as these – the more we can raise, the sooner our children can benefit. We know that giving money isn’t always possible, so here’s what you can do, whatever your circumstances:

It all started over 45 years ago at a kitchen table in Maida Vale, London, where Michael Norton our founder sat down to research and write ‘The Directory of Social Change’. A directory, the first of its kind, full of ideas, information and contacts for those wanting to explore alternatives for creating better communities and a better society. And then what? Four directories were published on community, education, housing and women. In 1977, Michael organised his first fundraising training and started publishing practical information on fundraising, marketing, management and legal issues for charities. In 1984, looking for a more sustainable source of income, Michael created the first “Guide to Company Giving” and then asked Luke FitzHerbert to create a “Guide to the Major Trusts”. This was how the Directory of Social Change started, adopting the principles of social enterprise in structuring how it operated and was funded.

At Stride Active we want to inspire active futures. Put simply, we want to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to be physically active and most importantly, enjoy it! We are the only organisation in Herefordshire dedicated to young people’s physical activity. As experts in in PE, school sport and physical activity, we advocate the benefits of this to support all young people, be it physically, mentally or socially. It is our belief that if we can create the right experiences for children, they will remain active throughout their adult lives. Stride Active is a not-for-profit organisation; our work is divided through two organisational ‘arms’ – Whitecross School and Stride Active Community Interest Company (CIC). We are hosted by Whitecross High School, but operate independently to support schools and organisations across Herefordshire and beyond. We have over 14 years’ experience in sharing our PE expertise with schools. We do this through a range of CPD and training opportunities. Alongside this, we also specialise in physical activity, health and wellbeing through the CIC. All of our work aims to address rising obesity and inactivity rates in children.

I also worked for a Local Education Authority for 14 years assessing and tutoring children with dyslexia. Liverpool Black History Research Group is a collective of community led researchers investigating and raising awareness of Liverpool’s long black presence. The important contribution of people of African descent to Liverpool’s development has gone largely unacknowledged and we are committed to revealing this forgotten history. We adopted the Sankofa bird as a part of our logo, substituting it for one of the two Liver birds, which top the iconic Liver building on Liverpool’s waterfront. The Liver bird is widely accepted as the emblem of Liverpool. The Sankofa is a mythical creature that flies forwards, while looking backwards, with an egg (symbolising the future) in its mouth. It is an Akan symbol of the people of modern day Ghana and is associated with a proverb ‘Sankofa w’onkyir’ which translates as “it is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten” The group is led by local historian and PhD student, Laurence Westgaph. Its purpose is to share historical knowledge and offer instruction in research skills and techniques, providing learning, training and employment opportunities for the people of Liverpool. Liverpool Black History Research Group is registered as a not for profit business, based at the Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre.

Ayo set up the business in 2021 after almost two decades of working in equality, diversity and inclusion. The idea came from an awakening in society of structural barriers facing minoritized groups, and the need to provide support for organisations to take trusted and sensitive approaches to improve the experiences and outcomes for their staff, service users and customers. Specialist in EDI and business development Ayo has worked in race equality and gender equality organisations since the early 2000s when she started her career at Race Equality West Midlands (REWM) founded by Dr Frank Reeves. She went on to working in a number of grass roots community organisations, and government funded initiatives supporting women in STEM careers, refugee, asylum seeker and migrant communities, and young people at risk of anti-social behaviour. Alongside a successful career in Business Development within Higher Education, between 2011-2019 she also led the charity New Leaders Network, providing training and development to equipt marginalised communities to move into leadership positions. In 2021 Ayo was approached by members of her network to provide bespoke EDI interventions following the impacts of COVID19 and the Black Lives Matter movement. She registered Bakare Barley Ltd as the go to person-centred consultancy service to provide positive, evidence-based and sustainable EDI business solutions.

Our Performance Studios at the Victoria Hall, Formby, are second to none; with a beautiful mirrored Dance Studio, complete with ballet barres and a Harlequin dance floor. Our Theatre and Rehearsal Room is equipped with the latest sound and lighting equipment, which we use regularly in our In House shows.
