<p>Your specialist course leader has more than 32 years of practical engineering experience with Ontario Power Generation (OPG), one of the largest electric utility in North America. He was previously involved in research on power generation equipment with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited at their Chalk River and Whiteshell Nuclear Research Laboratories.</p>
<p>While working at OPG, he acted as a Training Manager, Engineering Supervisor, System Responsible Engineer and Design Engineer. During the period of time, he worked as a Field Engineer and Design Engineer, he was responsible for the operation, maintenance, diagnostics, and testing of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, motors, transformers, inverters, valves, pumps, compressors, instrumentation and control systems. Further, his responsibilities included designing, engineering, diagnosing equipment problems and recommending solutions to repair deficiencies and improve system performance, supervising engineers, setting up preventive maintenance programs, writing Operating and Design Manuals, and commissioning new equipment.</p>
<p>Later, he worked as the manager of a section dedicated to providing training for the staff at the power stations. The training provided by him covered in detail the various equipment and systems used in power stations.</p>
<p>In addition, he has taught courses and seminars to more than four thousand working engineers and professionals around the world, specifically Europe and North America. He has been consistently ranked as 'Excellent' or 'Very Good' by the delegates who attended his seminars and lectures.</p>

This 5-day training course covers the principles and practices of directional drilling, calculations and planning for directional and horizontal wells. Specific problems associated with directional and horizontal drilling such as torque, drag, hole cleaning, logging and bottom hole assembly design, are included. The use of downhole motors, rotating and non-rotating steerable systems as well as the conventional rotary applications will be explained. Students will learn to design and evaluate a horizontal well based on the objectives for that well. Furthermore the students will get the basics of multilateral wells.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Additionally the participants will become familiar with tools and techniques used in surveying a directional or horizontal well. The software simulates a conventional rotary rig, equipped with two National 12P160 mud pumps and a complete mud treatment system. All required drilling equipment such as drill bits, drill pipe, drill collars, survey systems, downhole motors are available. The student will have to analyse the planned well and decide what type of assembly to use for the section to be drilled. This can be a conventional rotary assembly, a motor and a bent sub, a steerable system and even medium radius tools. The student will have to make up a correct BHA, run it in the hole, take a survey (with MWD or with gyro or single shot), orient his assembly and start drilling.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">As in real life and when using an MWD, the student can keep track of the tool face orientation and the hole direction together with the inclination. The student can stop drilling at any time to orient or to take a survey. At regular intervals the student will take a survey, the computer calculates the data and the student has to plot the result on the well plan, which the student will receive in an A0 format. The software will keep track of the drilling cost and the drilling time. At the end of the exercise the results of the different groups will be compared.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">The training instructor relies on a highly interactive training method to enhance the learning process. How do I attend?

EITHER -
CLASSROOM OPTION - Attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Introduction to Phlebotomy Course over 2 days. You will also complete your Advanced Training at the end of the first day and your Competency Training at the end of the second day.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

OR -

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. You have the option to add a classroom-based competency session, awarding a CPD Accredited Geopace Certificate of Competency, at time of booking.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your introductory course and one for your advanced course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 each) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses. The equipment and supplies included in your kits are the same as those used if you choose the classroom option.

Our Route to Competency Masterclass - Live Blood Sessions can only be completed in a classroom environment. This is included when you book a classroom option. You will receive a voucher code to enable you to book onto any upcoming dates or locations. For most of our two day course we run our competency training at the end of the second day and therefore you should be able to complete your full training programme with us over two days.

M03 - Specialised and Advanced Phlebotomy Equipment:
The centrifuge - overview. Safe operation and use. Managing a centrifuge breakage or spillage.
Equipment and practices in unusual situations.
Patients with special needs and requiring specific attention.
Equipment preparation for blood samples that are collected at
0 degrees, 37 degrees C and other non-standard conditions.
A look at advances in technology and how to use the latest devices.
M04 - Point of Care Testing:
What is POC Testing? Advantages, Disadvantages and Clinical
Outcomes. Comparison of POC with lab testing. 10 common POC tests. Roles for phlebotomists performing POC Tests.
M05 - Neonates and Children:
Sample collection from new-born to pre-adult. A detailed overview of legal principles of law including child consent and child protection for phlebotomists. Neonatal and child blood collection equipment.
A comprehensive look at heel and finger-prick procedures including
microtainers, lancets and capillary tube collection. Detailed heel prick procedure. Paediatric finger prick collection. The life-threatening hazard of over-collecting. Communication techniques in differing age bands.

The challenges of phlebotomy in older people. Understanding skin changes and venepuncture implications. A profile of common

M07 - Special Procedures:
Drawing blood from back of hand. Drawing blood from lower limb veins. Managing the unwilling or difficult patient. Managing the psychiatric patient. Managing the isolated patient. Non-routine blood tests. Managing the latex allergy patient (type 1 and type 4 reactions). Latex indicators. Sample handling - non-routine procedures. Drug trials and research projects.
M08 - Special Tests and Sample Handling Procedures:
A look at sample collection at specific times of day and night,
samples that are protected from light, collected on ice and
collected at body temperature. Procedures for each group - collection notes, analytic time, optimal collection time and notes for each group.
M09 - Advanced Phlebotomy Tasks:
Additional procedures. Maintaining POC equipment. Stock control and stock rotation. Quality control. Data entry. Product evaluation. Training and competency evaluation.
M10 - Alternative Environments:
A step-by-step look at non-clinical phlebotomy environments including private testing, DEFRA, forensic and police, cord blood collection, DNA analysis, veterinary services, overseas and volunteering.

- Classroom - health & safety briefing, schedule overview.
- Virtual Classroom - audio/visual checks and registration. Unpacking and overview of your training kit.
2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

M1 - Peripheral IV Cannulation - Introduction:
Definitions - understanding terminology relating to PIVC.
IV Therapy and NMC guidelines.
M2 - Legal & Professional Responsibilities:
Legal Obligations and Accountability. Criminal, Civil and
Contractual law in Healthcare. Vicarious Liability and your
Duty of Care.
M3 - Anatomy & Physiology:
Sites appropriate to IV cannulation. Hand vs. arm.
Advantages and disadvantages of relevant veins.
An overview of Homeostasis and Fluid Balance.
M4 - Hygiene and Infection Prevention & Control (IPC):
Reducing healthcare-associated infections. Keeping Safe.
Bloodborne Pathogens and Work Practice Controls.
Standard Precautions. Waste Disposal. Needle-stick injuries.
M5 - Indications and Advantages:
When to cannulate, infusion types and benefits over
alternative infusion routes. Continuous and intermittent infusion.
Prophylactic use before procedures and in unstable patients.
Contraindications.
M6 - Equipment:
Cannula types, sizes and colour coding. How to select
appropriate size. Equipment overview for total procedure.
M7 - Vein Choice for Cannulation:
Correct vein selection. Which veins to avoid.
How to manage an unsuccessful cannulation.
M8 - Procedures:
Full procedure for cannulation including correct documentation.
