The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) was established as the National Association of Theatre Nurses, NATN, in 1964. As a membership organisation and registered charity AfPP works to enhance skills and knowledge within operating departments, associated areas and sterile services departments. AfPP aims to enhance the quality of care and patient safety in the NHS and the independent sector throughout the UK. In April 2005 NATN changed its name, structures and systems in recognition of the significant changes that were happening in the healthcare sector and the wider perioperative environment and to accommodate the growing numbers of Operating Department Practitioners and Healthcare Support Workers who were previously not eligible for full membership. AfPP also works to encourage the exchange of professional information between members and co-operation with other professional bodies. These include the Departments of Health in the UK, the Perioperative Care Collaborative, the Medical Royal Colleges, Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) of all four member countries, Skills for Health and many of the British Safety Institution Committees and other groups set up to discuss specific issues related to perioperative care. Charity Objectives The objectives of the charity are: To advance health by improving patient care in perioperative practice Determine standards and promote best practice Facilitate education and practice development Provide advice to practitioners Foster and promote contacts and exchange information and ideas Act as a consultative body Institute or assist in instituting and provide support for any research Publication and production of journals, books etc and communication in any medium Procure contributions to funds by way of subscriptions, donations, grants etc Ensure financial stability, appropriate insurance etc. Integrated governance Support and management of regional activity

Hi, I’m Jane Barrett, co-founder of The Career Farm and co-author of “Taking charge of your career”. I started my career in in-house recruitment (recruiting MBAs for PricewaterhouseCoopers) and retained search consultancy for blue-chip clients, private companies and start-ups across a variety of sectors including Finance, IT and FMCG. As a recruiter it was clear to me that many well-qualified MBA and Masters candidates were poorly prepared for the interview process, and were unable to explain what they wanted and what they had to offer. We founded The Career Farm to support the careers teams at Business Schools across the UK and Europe, using our 3-step “GPS” process to help students get better jobs on graduation. Over the years we’ve worked with thousands of students, originally in face-to-face workshops and more recently through our online courses. The Bigger Picture The work we do with Business Schools and our corporate clients helps to support “The Future of Work”, a not-for-profit initiative aligned with the UN Sustainability Goals that gives young people an opportunity to explore the jobs that will help our economies and communities meet the diverse challenges of the 21st century. When you consider how many buildings across the world have air conditioning, billions of litres of condensate water is produced every year. But all of it is wasted.Until now. The invention Encore was invented by two directors of the UK-based G&H Group, a £30 million mechanical and electrical company founded in 1998. Having designed, built and installed mechanical and electrical power systems throughout their careers, they saw first-hand how water produced by air conditioning units literally goes down the drain – but not via the toilet. They became obsessed with finding a way of reusing this free water source. Using their extensive knowledge they, and a carefully selected team of specialist engineers and designers, spent over three years rigorously researching and developing the product to create the world’s most environmentally friendly toilet cistern.
