<p>Most of his working life, your expert course leader has been in a role that has enabled him to pass on skills and knowledge to others. A full-time role in Training and Development came about in 1996 with the offer to take up a full-time teaching post at Aberdeen College. In 1998, he was recruited by Kvaerner Oilfield Products, an Oil &amp; Gas industry company, specialising in Subsea Control Systems, to develop and implement a Training &amp; Competence program acceptable for its staff of over 600 and their client companies - a challenge he could not resist. In 2003, he broadened his horizons and became an independent Training &amp; Development consultant. Building a reputation for delivering training and development to the Oil &amp; Gas industry to the highest standards, he later joined Jee Ltd, a leading subsea engineering and training company based in Aberdeen. He was tasked with a wide portfolio of training, coaching &amp; mentoring to achieve high levels of<br />
competence for the client's staff and customers.</p>
<p>He is also a Science and Engineering Ambassador (Scotland), promoting the need for engineers and technicians for Scotland's industries, a frequent consultant to the European Economic &amp; Social Committee for standardising Vocational Skills training and competence throughout the EU. He holds memberships in the Society of Operations Engineers, Chartered Institute of Personnel &amp; Development and Society of Underwater Technologies.</p>

		<p></p><p>The Internet of Things (IoT) promises a wide range of benefits for industry, energy and utility companies, municipalities, healthcare, and consumers. Data can be collected in extraordinary volume and detail regarding almost anything worth measuring, such as public health and safety, the environment, industrial and agricultural production, energy, and utilities. New data analysis tools have been optimized for the massive amounts of data that IoT produces, enabling well-informed decisions to be made quickly.</p>
<p>But putting IoT systems into place can be a complicated proposition, and fraught with hazards. Solutions may involve devices and technologies from many different vendors, requiring a good understanding of software and hardware and strategies to integrate them, as well as the risks associated with security, privacy, and the safety of those whose working and living environments are managed by these systems.</p>
<p>IT professionals often have little or no experience working with embedded systems, sensor networks, actuators, real-time systems, and other components that are common to IoT, so this course provides a foundation for understanding how these components work with other systems that IT professionals typically have more experience working with-such as networks, cloud computing, and applications running on servers, desktop computers, and mobile devices.</p>

The software simulates a conventional rotary rig, equipped with two National 12P160 mud pumps and a complete mud treatment system. All required drilling equipment such as drill bits, drill pipe, drill collars, survey systems, downhole motors are available. The student will have to analyse the planned well and decide what type of assembly to use for the section to be drilled. This can be a conventional rotary assembly, a motor and a bent sub, a steerable system and even medium radius tools. The student will have to make up a correct BHA, run it in the hole, take a survey (with MWD or with gyro or single shot), orient his assembly and start drilling.</p><p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">As in real life and when using an MWD, the student can keep track of the tool face orientation and the hole direction together with the inclination. The student can stop drilling at any time to orient or to take a survey. At regular intervals the student will take a survey, the computer calculates the data and the student has to plot the result on the well plan, which the student will receive in an A0 format. The software will keep track of the drilling cost and the drilling time. <p>This 2 half-day Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) course will guide participants on the technoeconomic aspects of capture, utilization and geological storage of carbon dioxide. The VILT course will address the methods and techniques used in the technoeconomic assessment of Carbon Capture, Utilization &amp; Storage (CCUS) projects. It will explore in detail the factors that affect the cost-effectiveness of current and emerging technologies for CO<sub>2</sub> capture, transport and geological storage, including monitoring and verification. Given that the successful deployment of CCUS may require economic incentives, technical and economic drivers such as technological innovation, optimization, source sink matching and emerging opportunities will also be discussed.</p>
<p>In addition, using several worked examples and case studies, this VILT course will explain the principles behind the analysis of the costs and opportunities of a CCS / CCUS project from source to sink and examines the possibilities of using carbon dioxide from an economic perspective.</p>

<p>Your expert course leader received his B.Eng. in Chemical and Environmental Systems in 2002 from TecnolÃ³gico de Monterrey, Mexico, and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2008 from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), in Sydney, Australia, at the UNESCO Centre for Membrane Science and Technology. His doctoral used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyse the flows within membrane modules used for water treatment and desalination. He also worked on a desalination linkage project between the UNSW and the European Union, as part of Framework Programme 6.</p>
<p>From 2009 to 2014, he worked for the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC), where he led the research into CO2 Transport Networks, co-led the development of a techno-economic model for the analysis of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects, and collaborated on several consultancy and feasibility studies conducted by CO2CRC for both Government and Industry. From 2014 to 2019, he held a CONACYT Research Fellowship at the Instituto TecnolÃ³gico de Sonora (ITSON) in Mexico, where he led collaborative research projects dealing with RO membrane biofouling (IHE-Delft), membrane modifications, solar energy use for desalination (CSIR-CSMCRI India) and CFD modelling of the hydrodynamics in membrane modules (UMP Malaysia).</p>
<p>Since July 2019, he is a Research Fellow in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney, where his research focuses on finding ways to reduce the cost, energy use and environmental impact of technologies for providing clean energy and water. From 2015 to 2020, he was a Member of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Society of Membrane Science and Technology. He guest edited a special edition on CCS for the Journal 'Technologies' and is currently an Editorial Board member for the journal, 'Energies', a peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal. His research interests include improving the efficiency of osmotic membrane separation processes, modelling complex processes involving heat and mass transfer, and exploring the economic drivers of low emission technologies such as the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) chain.</p>

Training kits mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video instructions, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.
