On this lino printing taster workshop with Edinburgh artist Suzanne Kemplay, you will explore quick ways of creating simple images of flowers or patterns.
Suzanne will provide pre-made templates&nbsp;to speed up the design process, so that you can quickly&nbsp;move on to practice&nbsp;printing, and to learning the different techniques you can use to produce striking images.
This is a hands-on, practical and fun workshop where you will learn the basic skills of lino cutting and printing, and gain the confidence you need to create beautiful prints at home without the need for expensive equipment.&nbsp;
All the equipment and materials you will need are provided. You will take home all the prints you make, and your lino cut design so you can continue practising at home.

Beginners lino printing taster workshop

On this, 3 hour or 5 hour introduction to macram&eacute; workshop with Edinburgh artist Lucy Wayman, you get the opportunity to work on longer projects.&nbsp;You can choose to create a plant or pot hanger, or stay on to work on a more larger macram&eacute; project, such as a double plant hanger, wall hanging or bag.&nbsp;
The workshop will start with the basic principles and techniques of macram&eacute;, allowing you to build your confidence by creating small projects such as a key ring, before moving on to designing and creating your plant hanger, bespoke wall hanging, or bag.
Once you feel more confident, you will learn how to calculate rope lengths and plan designs to create your chosen hand-crafted macram&eacute; project&nbsp;using 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines. A helpful instruction manual will be provided to guide you through your project.If you opt for the plant hanger project your workshop will finish after 3 hours. The longer wall hanging and bag projects last for an extra 2 hours, i.e. a 5 hour workshop.
This three-in-one workshop gives extra time for people who feel confident with the basics to challenge themselves with more elaborate designs under Lucy&#39;s guidance.

On this 3 hour soap-making class you will learn how to make your own organic soap bars using an organic and vegan glycerine base, pure essential oils and a selection of botanicals.Jenny from The Scottish Soapworks will share the benefits of the essential oils she uses in her tried and tested recipes, and show you how to make your own soap using the &#39;melt and pour&#39; method.You will take home all the soap bars you make on the day. On this fun, workshop with local artist Lucy Wayman, you will learn how to make a macram&eacute; plant hanger which can also double as fabulous hanging storage with the addition of a fruit bowl or jewellery pot!
With hands-on help from Lucy, you will learn the basic principles and techniques of macram&eacute;, and will build your confidence making small keyring designs. Using 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines, you will then create your hand-crafted hanger.&nbsp;

On this 3-hour well-being focussed workshop we explore how yoga techniques can enhance our creative practice.&nbsp;Yoga is designed to cultivate mindfulness, focus and inner peace through physical asanas (postures), breath control and meditation. These practices impact the body and mind, helping to reduce stress and improve our overall well-being, as well as rid our minds of the clutter that blocks our progress allowing us to be at our most creative.Local yoga teacher and creative collaborator Jo Harbisher will share beginner-friendly yoga practices. The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a supportive and welcoming home-based environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh’s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in being creative.
Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us. 
All the equipment and materials you will need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise, plus light refreshments (a selection of Shibui teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet or savoury snacks). 
On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out; or there are a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, cafés, and restaurants, plus supermarkets, within a 5-10 minute walk.

We require a minimum number of bookings to ensure we can pay our creatives a fair fee, and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
Private workshop bookings
Most of our workshops are also available to book for small private get-togethers; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; corporate team building and well-being purposes; and as in-store retail events. Learn to make colourful monotype prints without the need for a press. 
In this 3-hour private class, Lou Davis will take you through how to make a gelatin (vege-gel) printing plate which can be used to print beautiful and colourful works of art.&nbsp;We&rsquo;ll cover a number of techniques including using stencils and masks, adding texture with botanicals and found objects and using household items for mark making and using home-made foam stamps. Textures could be chosen to match the reason for the celebration.
We&rsquo;ll then take our completed prints and use them to create a collection of unique greeting cards, which could be themed with messages to suit the occasion, e.g. happy birthday, wedding wishes, good luck, festive fun, you&#39;ve got this!, and so on.&nbsp;You will take home a set of up to 10 one-off, hand-printed greeting cards, with matching envelopes. &nbsp;<hr fr-original-style="" style="border-color: var(--border-muted); border-style: solid; clear: both; break-after: page; user-select: none; box-sizing: border-box;">

Make a functional and fabulous hand-bound book | private class for up to 10 people

Discover the magic of mosaic making&nbsp;with Jacky Cox of Mossy MosaicMosaicing fits in perfectly with our vision of a world where recycling, repurposing and upcycling is the norm. Jacky works with a variety of materials including glass, recycled crockery and natural materials like slate and sea glass, and finds the whole creative process from sourcing to creating absorbing, relaxing and mesmerising.&nbsp;On this 3 hour session, Jacky will help you create two mosaic items using methods you can do at home. You will begin by designing creating a grouted drinks coaster, and while this is drying, you will design a beautiful hanging heart using vitreous (&#39;swimming pool&#39;) tiles. Our Art &amp; Wine Evenings offer&nbsp;a fun,&nbsp;relaxed and creative night out in Edinburgh&#39;s fabulous&nbsp;city centre, and are perfect for those who want to reengage with their creative side, or just enjoy a bit of escapism.
With hands-on help from local painter <a href="https://www.thearienascollective.com/artists" rel="noopener" target="_blank" fr-original-style="" style="user-select: auto; font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box; cursor: pointer; text-decoration: inherit;">Suzanne Kemplay</a>, you will learn how to create your very own still life, portrait or landscape painting using acrylic paints, while enjoying a glass of wine served with cheese and crackers plus our usual selection of locally-blended Shibui teas, and coffee options.
You don&#39;t have to be able to draw, so it&#39;s perfect for beginners&nbsp;as well as those who are new to using acrylic paints. And we&nbsp;think you&#39;ll be amazed at what you can achieve in one evening!
Suzanne offers a range of themes throughout the year, and you will be given a choice of 2 options to paint on the night. She&#39;ll also provide a brief background to the artist&#39;s work, and support throughout the evening to help you make the most of your time.
No previous experience is needed. Images can be traced so the focus is on the painting and you can get straight to work, and have fun playing with paint. Suzanne will talk you through the process showing you how to mix colours, and how to apply acrylic paint to get the best results.
